PART 40 LALA'S SAD STORY

Latimojong is the highest mountain in South Sulawesi, which has seven peaks, with the highest peak of Rante Mario and an altitude of 3,680 meters above sea level and included in the Bantimurung-Bulusaraung National Park area.

Stretching from south to north, Latimojong to the west is bordered by Enrekang Regency, to the north by Tana Toraja Regency, to the south by Sidrap Regency, and to the east by Luwu to the shore of Bone Bay.

Mount Latimojong itself is included in the list of Seven Summit Indonesia, which means Mount Latimojong is included in the 7 highest peaks in Indonesia. To reach the highest mountain peak in Sulawesi, will pass through Karangan Village, Latimojong Village, Buntu Batu Subdistrict, Enrekang. This is the last hamlet before climbing Mount Latimojong.

Not far from the hamlet, there is a view of coffee trees on the left and right side of the path, with striking red fruit. There is also a sack containing freshly harvested coffee beans.

Rante Mario is a favorite of climbers. Before reaching the top of the climber see the straight path and a wide open field filled with shrubs, will appear the path to the summit very clearly.

Mount Latimojong has incredible natural beauty, such as dense tropical forests, beautiful waterfalls, and stunning sunrise and sunset views.

Despite its incredible natural beauty, the ascent of Mount Latimojong is not easy.

Climbing Mount Latimojong requires a fairly challenging journey because of the steep climbing routes and rocky terrain.

Climbers must pass through various obstacles such as steep terrain, steep cliffs, and erratic weather. Thin oxygen levels are also a challenge for climbers.

However, if you make it to the top of Rantemario, the climbers will be treated to an amazingly beautiful and unforgettable scenery. The beautiful scenery and challenging experience make this climb an attractive option for climbers.

According to local myths, Mount Latimojong is considered a sacred mountain inhabited by fine creatures. Therefore, before climbing, the climbers must ask permission to the owner of the mountain and perform traditional rituals as a sign of respect for the subtle creatures that are considered as mountain guards.

In addition, climbers are also expected to maintain the cleanliness of the mountain environment so as not to damage the balance of nature and harm the delicate creatures that are there.

One of the most famous mysteries of Mount Latimojong is the existence of the ghost of the king and queen of poppo. According to local people, the ghost of a poppo is a human who only flies at night.

They like to look for fruits, fish, and garden produce. During the day, they still look like ordinary humans in general, but have bright red eyes. The ghost said it could perch on a tree or roof of a house with the sound of “Pok! Pok!”. If the sound is loud, it means the ghost is falling. But if his voice sounds slow, it means he is very close to us.

The poppo ghost is a finished human being - a creature that flies across a large tree with only its head and intestines unraveled, without a body and legs, and is filled with fresh blood. He also sometimes seemed to dart outside the window, and occasionally stopped as if riding right on the ridge of the front house or on a large tree.

Since he is light and can fly, he is also called a ghost with the power of half a bat; the one that preys on ripe fruits also sucks blood, and the one that does not, either cattle or newborns along with their ari-ari.

There are 2 kinds of poppo ghosts:

Ghost poppo sallang. This type of poppo is dangerous because it is very and can prey on people who are sick also like to eat baby babang or newborn baby along with his arian, and

The ghost of Poppo Sallang is often found in a cave near the top of Rante Mario. This ghost lives in a cave to guard a sacred heirloom that should not be taken by just anyone. To maintain the location of this residence, this ghost often makes some climbers afraid to get lost even can lose contact for a few days because here the HP signal is also not there.

An example of the story is the story of Rio and 3 colleagues who came from a group of nature lovers an institute in Makassar, while climbing to the top of Rante Mario last week. Rio and his friends have managed to reach the top of Rante Mario through Enrekang line.

After successfully staying two days at Rante Mario, these students decided to go home through a different route, which is rarely reached by other climbers, namely through Buntu Ninimori. But this path is not easy with steep and slippery cliffs and heavy rainy weather conditions, so it requires these students to find the nearest cave to shelter and spend the night.

But unfortunately, one of the caves found by the student was the residence of the ghost of the king and queen poppo sallang; who did not want his residence to be disturbed by just anyone. So then the ghost of the king and queen of poppo also frightened Rio and his friends and they became frightened to lose their way home, also became lost in the middle of the forest. Moreover, the HP signal on the line was not there, making it difficult for Rio and his friends to ask for help or contact other colleagues in the city of Makassar.

Rio and his friends had run out of food for 3 days, where finally they were forced to survive just by eating potluck, which is a fern that grows wild in the forest;  as well as 2 friends Rio had experienced a very high fever due to fatigue and hypothermia due to continuous rain.

Fortunately, these students were always compact in finding their way home and how to survive in the forest, until finally they could reach one of the eastern mountain ranges, which nearby there is a river. Suddenly in the area there is a signal HP although not strong, and Rio can immediately call his friend in the city of Makassar to help them. With guidance through the location of mobile phones and the internet, these students finally managed to find the nearest resident's house and they were finally saved.

Rio then told the locals how they could get lost due to the sighting of a ghost that flew with only a human head and intestines unraveled; so they can not spend the night in the cave near the top of Rante Mario. The residents also agreed to the story of Rio and his friends while explaining that what they encountered was a poppo ghost that was legendary in the area.

Ghost king and queen poppo Sallang is indeed very disciplined to guard the cave where he lives, because on the wall of the cave is still embedded weapons Spear of the Sky Cakra very powerful. The myth is that the weapon was used to conquer Prabu Siliwangi from the kingdom of Pajajaran.

Juragan Seno: "Well Ki Sabrang, hopefully soon to recover." Then Ki Sabrang disappeared, turning into a cold fog that came out of Juragan Seno's house. The fog turned out to be moving toward the northeast of Java island, not toward the Peak of Mount Lawu. It seems like Ki Sabrang is heading towards the top of Mount Latimojong in South Sulawesi to try to pull out the Heavenly Spear Chakra from inside the cave.
