The Adventure of the Light-Bearer

The Adventure of the Light-Bearer
CH. 27 - Plagued Village

Levin walked through the path toward the house that Clea had pointed at. Once they got close enough to the house, they noticed that there was a fair amount of housing around. Levin's eyes turned left thinking, he felt that he did not see any other village on the map he saw earlier.

"I don't remember any other village on the map. Is the village safe?" doubtful of Levin, Clea who was being carried by him held Levin's shoulder limply, she avoided excessive physical contact with Levin. Then he spoke.

"Huh? Do you think all villages should be listed on the map? Of course only large villages will be listed on the map, remote and small villages like this where there are." Clea explained. Levin stomped his feet off, he saw a crowd in a house there. He then brought Clea there with a somewhat accelerated pace. Levin then greeted one of the many people in the crowd.

"Excuse me sir, what the hell is going on here?" ask Levin. The man looked up, his face was pale, the man looked like an exhausted old farmer. He then looked up and observed Levin and Clea, he did not expect a newcomer to the small village.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you, newcomer. After all this is not a place for two pairs of striped-nosed children to play, get out of here or you'll be doomed" said the man who looked like the farmer. He then brandished his hand and opened his mouth trying to hold Levin, as if he had changed his mind.

"But wait, I think you can ask our chairman that question here, he himself said not to tell anyone outside the village. Go to the house on the left center, there's a picture of a chicken on the door of the house, maybe you'll find what you're looking for there, maybe you can help us with this, now go, before anyone else here realizes the existence of the newcomer and expels you in an unpleasant way" said the farm as it swung its hand to drive Levin away, while Levin's eyes were fixed on the human voice growling behind the crowd, he could not see there because the crowd was thick enough and the people there were blocking Levin from seeing more clearly.

Levin walked away from there. Clea tries to get herself out of Levin's lap, but Levin refuses, saying they're almost there and he'll drop them off when he gets home to the chief the farmer was talking about.

Levin looked to the left, looking at a wooden house that was bigger than the others. The house is more neat and terraced. There's a chicken symbol on that door, maybe a symbolism for a rancher's house or something. Levin stepped up the small stairs and walked towards the door, there was a round iron stuck there, it served as a door knocker. He lowered Clea, and knocked on the door.

"Excuse me." chanted Levin as he smashed the round iron into the door slowly twice. Someone inside then shouted.

"Who's there? Don't come in until you get rid of the sick man!" yelling hoarsely at a man in the house, Levin replied.

"I'm a newcomer sir, I'm here to talk about something." Levin yelled back. The sound of shoes slamming on the wooden floor inside the house, the person inside stepped towards the door and opened it.

The person looked tall and skinny, his blackish-white mustache described his age being quite old, he was wearing a black Coif hat and clothes made from thick wolf skin, he was wearing a black Coif cap, his posture was upright and his chest was puffed forward, looking like someone honorable. That person then tilted his head looking at the two young men before him.

"What's? Two little kids? Gee whiz... So, what exactly is your purpose here young people? Are you lost? If you meet Dexter at the end of the house near the monument, he will find you a way to your house" said the man, he then breathed out and closed the door again, but Levin held him back.

"Wait on! We're not lost, we need your help, sir. This girl friend of mine needed treatment, we were on our way to the village of Dreydan and she fell so hard to continue her journey." explained Levin, the man in white mustache and shook his head slowly.

"Wait for you, sir, I heard one of the villagers say that the village chief here needs a favor. If I can figure it out, what kind of help do you need? We do look like kids, but we're experienced as mercenaries and mercenaries, maybe we can help your people here, of course for a fee." levin said, bowing his body and holding the handle of Varan Fretha's sword like a soldier. Clea tried to hide her admiration, she looked at Levin with a small smile. The village chief raised his eyebrows, he observed Levin's clothes clad in armor and his shiny sword tucked in his leather belt.

"You're armed, young man. But I'm not sure we're gonna need a soldier here. All we need is a medic or maybe a plant expert. You go, this place is quite dangerous for you people who do not know about the problem here" said the village chief. Levin was silent and the atmosphere was silent for a moment, the village leader was still waiting for Levin to leave from before him. Silence broke as someone ran towards them, the person's face glared in panic and shouted to the village chief there. He jumped up the stairs and pointed somewhere.

"Chief of the village Edwin! The medic... He said you must quickly prevent the farmers and ranchers from going to the lake! He said the disease came from there and we must quickly destroy it. He asked you to act immediately, because not long ago a bunch of little kids went there to fish. You need to stop them!" shouted the villagers. The face of the village chief named Edwin then turned pale.

"Then you quickly warned the villagers not to go to the lake! There was also another small village close to the lake, I had to quickly commemorate them with Dexter. I think you have a young man's job, go to the lake and prevent the kids from fishing there. The lake is located west of the monument, there is a small path there, just follow the path and do it quickly!" edwin shouted, he then rushed to run to find the Benama Dexter's coachman. The resident who had also done the same thing, he ran and shouted to the people there so as not to approach the lake he meant. Levin and Clea were silent for a moment.

"Then you wait here! Your legs are still sore so rest here, I'll bring the kids back and find out what's going on" Levin yelled at Clea. Clea quickly grabbed Levin's hand and stopped him.

"Wait on! Just take the kids and come back! The lake is dangerous, right? You should just stay away from that place and get out of here" he said as he tried to hold her away with a panicked face.

"I don't know, I just feel like I should do that. Don't worry, I'll just investigate it, I won't get close to the lake" Levin said, smiling at Clea and trying to take her hand off, but Clea kept her.

"Ka.. Then I'll come too. I'll run there." Levin wrinkled his face, he felt that the time was running out.

"But you're just gonna slow me down Clea. You wait here, I'm sure you can take care of yourself with that bow of yours. I need to get to that lake before the kids get there!" Levin said hurriedly, while Clea was silent for a moment, she looked down thinking hard.

"Ti.. Not want. I want to go there or none of us will go." said Clea slowly, Levin then remembered the time when they were both locked in a bandit cage yesterday the day after. He remembered that he had once said the same thing to Clea. Levin had no other choice, he had no time to argue with the stubborn woman in front of him. He then nodded forcedly.

"Baa.. All right, it's up to you. But your wounds will get worse if you run after me there, you have to I carry them again." Levin said, Clea then nodded and smiled. Levin then raised his hand and ran towards the monument.
