Roro Jonggrang's

Once upon a time, there stood a very large kingdom called Prambanan. The people of Prambanan were very peaceful and prosperous under the leadership of the king named Prabu Baka. The small kingdoms in the region around Prambanan are also very submissive and respect the leadership of Prabu Baka.

Meanwhile in other places, there is one kingdom that is not less large than the kingdom of Prambanan, the kingdom of Pengging. The kingdom is famous for being very arrogant and wants to always expand its territory.

The kingdom of Pengging had a powerful knight named Bondowoso. He has a magic weapon called Bandung, so Bondowoso is famous as Bandung Bondowoso. In addition to having powerful weapons, Bandung Bondowoso also has an army of Jin. The army used Bandung Bondowoso to help him to attack other kingdoms and fulfill all his wishes.

Until one day, the arrogant King Pengging called Bandung Bondowoso. King Pengging then ordered Bandung Bondowoso to attack the Kingdom of Prambanan. The next day Bandung Bondowoso called his jin balatentar to gather, and immediately left for the Kingdom of Prambanan.

Upon arrival at Prambanan, they immediately stormed into the Prambanan palace. Prabu Baka and his army were in a fog, as they were lacking in preparation. Finally Bandung Bondowoso managed to occupy the Kingdom of Prambanan, and Prabu Baka was killed by being hit by Bandung Bondowoso weapons.

The victory of Bandung Bondowoso and his troops was welcomed by King Pengging. Then King Pengging also mandated Bandung Bondowoso to occupy Prambanan Palace and take care of all its contents, including the Prabu Baka family.

When Bandung Bondowoso lived in the Royal Palace of Prambanan, he saw a very beautiful woman. The woman is Roro Jonggrang, daughter of Prabu Baka. When he saw Roro Jonggrang, Bandung Bondowoso began to fall in love. With no further thought, Bandung Bondowoso immediately called and proposed to Roro Jonggrang.

“Wahai Roro Jonggrang, would you be my consort?”, asked Bandung Bondowoso to Roro Jonggrang.

Hearing the question from Bandung Bondowoso, Roro Jonggrang just fell silent and looked confused. Actually he really hated Bandung Bondowoso, because he had killed his father who loved him so much. But on the other hand, Roro Jonggrang was afraid to reject the proposal of Bandung Bondowoso. Finally after thinking for a moment, Roro Jonggrang also found a way so that Bandung Bondowoso did not marry him.

“Alright, I accepted your proposal. But after you meet one of my conditions”, replied Roro Jonggrang.

“What are your terms Roro Jonggrang?”, Tanya Bandung Bandawasa.

“Make me a thousand temples and two wells in one night”, replied Roro Jonggrang.

Hearing the terms proposed by Roro Jonggrang, Bandung Bondowoso immediately agreed. He felt that it was a very easy condition for him, because Bandung Bondowoso had a very large Jin army.

Roro Jonggrang who witnessed the construction of the temple began to fidget and fear, because in two-thirds of the night, there were only three temples and a well that they had not finished.

Roro Jonggrang then thought hard, looking for a way so that Bandung Bondowoso could not meet its requirements.

After thinking hard, Roro Jonggrang finally found a way out. He would make the atmosphere become like morning, so the Jinns stopped making the temple.

Roro Jonggrang immediately called all the ladies in the palace. The dayangs were given the task of Roro Jonggrang to burn straw, sound dimples, and sprinkle flowers that smell fragrant.

Hearing the orders from Roro Jonggrang, the ladies immediately burned the straw. Soon the sky looked red, and dimples began to sound. The fragrant smell of the flowers began to smell, and the chickens began to crow.

Seeing the reddened sky, the sound of dimples, and the fragrant smell of the flowers, the Bandung Bondowoso army began to leave his job. They thought it was morning, and they had to leave.

Seeing the Ballatentara go, Bandung Bondowoso shouted: “Hai my hall, it is not yet morning. Come back to complete the construction of this temple !!!”

The Genie kept going, and did not heed the screams of Bandung Bondowoso. Bandung Bondowoso was very upset, and finally completed the construction of the remaining temple. But really shit, not finished the construction of the temple, the morning has come. Bandung Bondowoso also failed to qualify from Roro Jonggrang.

Knowing the failure of Bandung Bondowoso, Roro Jonggrang then approached Bandung Bondowoso. “You failed to qualify from me, Bandung Bondowoso”, said Roro Jonggrang.

Hearing the words of Roro Jonggrang, Bandung Bondowoso was very angry. In a very loud tone, Bandung Bondowoso said: “You cheated Roro Jonggrang. Actually you are the one who foiled the construction of this thousand temples. Therefore, You I curse to be a statue in the thousandth temple!”

Thanks to the power of Bandung Bondowoso, Roro Jonggrang turned into a statue/sculpture. The form of the statue can now be seen in the Prambanan temple complex, and the name of the temple is known as Roro Jonggrang temple. While the temples in the vicinity are called Candi Sewu or Candi Seribu.
