In ancient times, there was a young man named Manik Angkeran. His father was a virtuous Begawan, whose name was Begawan Sidi mantra. Although his father was respected by the surrounding community and had extensive religious knowledge, but Manik Angkeran was a spoiled child, whose work is only gambling and pitting chickens like the delinquents in his village.Maybe this is because he has been left by his mother who died during childbirth. Because of his habit, his father's wealth more and more exhausted and eventually they fell poor.
Although their situation is poor, the habits of Manik Angkeran are not also reduced, even because in gambling he always loses, his debt is getting more and more and he is also pursued by the people he owes. Finally Manik came to his father's place, and in a sad tone he asked his father to pay his debts. Because Manik Angkeran is the only child, Begawan Sidi Mantra also felt sorry and promised to pay his son's debts.
So with his inner strength, Begawan Sidi Mantra got a hint that there is a mountain called Mount Agung which is located in the east. On Mount Agung there are said to be abundant treasures. Armed with these instructions, go Begawan Sidi Mantra to Mount Agung with his worship bell.
After a long journey, he arrived at Mount Agung. Then he cast a spell while sounding his voice. And there came out a great dragon named Dragon Besukih.
“Hai Begawan Sidi Mantra, what are you calling me?” ask the Dragon Besukih.
“Sang Besukih, my wealth has been spent my son on gambling. Now that his debts were piling up, he was being chased by people. Please help me so I can repay my son's debt!”
“Alright, I will fulfill your request Begawan Sidi Mantra, but you must advise your son not to gamble anymore, because you know gambling is forbidden religion!”
“I promise I will advise my son” replied Begawan Sidi Mantra.
Then the Dragon Besukih shook his body and his fallen scales immediately turned golden and diamond.
“Take Begawan Sidi Mantra. Pay your child's debts. And do not forget to advise him not to gamble again.”
While picking up gold and diamonds and not forgetting to say thank you, then Begawan Sidi Mantra immediately went from Mount Agung. Then he went back to his home in East Java. Arriving home, he paid all his son's debts and did not forget he advised his son not to gamble again.
But apparently his father's advice was not ignored by Manik Angkeran. He keeps gambling and pitting chickens every day. Over time, the debt of Manik Angkeran was more and more and he was chased again by the people he owed. And as before, Manik Angkeran went to his father and begged that his debts be repaid.
Although a little upset, as a father, Begawan Sidi Mantra also promised to pay off the debts. And soon he went to Mount Agung to beg the Dragon Besukih to be given help again.
When he arrived at Mount Agung, he sounded the bell and read spells to let the Dragon Besukih out of his palace.
Not long after, finally came out the Dragon Besukih from his palace.
“What else is Begawan Sidi Mantra? Why are you calling me again?” ask the Dragon Besukih.
“Sorry Mr. Besukih, once again I ask for your help so that I can repay my son's debts. I have nothing left and I have advised him not to gamble, but he does not mind me.” Please Begawan Sidi Mantra.
“Your son seems to have no respect for his parents anymore. But I'll help you one last time. Remember, last time.”
So the Dragon moved his body and the Begawan Sidi Mantra collected gold and jewels from the scales of his fallen body. Then Begawan Sidi Mantra pleaded. And upon arrival at his home, Begawan Sidi Mantra immediately pay off the debts of his son.
Because Begawan Sidi Mantra easily get treasure, Manik Angkeran was surprised to see it. So ask Manik Angkeran to his father, “Dad, where did you get all that wealth?”
“Already Manik Angkeran, do not you ask where father got the treasure from. Stop gambling and roasting chickens, because it is all forbidden by religion. And this is the last time I'm helping you. Next time you owe me again, I won't help you anymore.”
Ask him here and there, and some of his friends tell him that his father got wealth in Mount Agung. Because of his greed, Manik Angkeran also stole his father's clapper and went to Mount Agung.
Arriving at Mount Agung, he immediately rang the bell. Hearing the clapper, the Dragon Besukih also felt called by him, but the Dragon was surprised, because he did not hear the mantras usually spoken by Begawan Sidi Mantra when ringing the bell.
So San Naga came out to see who came to call him.
After coming out, meet the Dragon with Manik Angkeran. Seeing Manik Angkeran, the Dragon Besukih was unable to resist his anger.
“Hai Manik Angkeran! What did you call me with that clapper you stole from your father?”
With a compassionate attitude, Manik also said “Sang Naga help me. Give me abundant treasure so that I can repay my debts. If I can't pay this time, people will kill me. Have mercy on me.”
Seeing the sadness of Manik Angkeran, the Dragon felt pity.
“Alright, I will help you.” replied the Dragon Besukih.
After giving advice to Manik Angkeran, the Dragon immediately turned his body to take the treasure to be given to Manik Angkeran. When the Dragon buried his head and body into the earth to take treasures, Manik Angkeran also saw the tail of the Dragon on the surface of the earth filled with diamonds and jewels, then his evil intentions arose. Manik Angkeran immediately unsheathed the keris and cut off the tail of the Dragon Besukih. The Besukih Dragon thrashed and immediately turned his body. But Manik Angkeran is gone. The Dragon immediately chased Manik to all directions, but he could not find Manik Angkeran, which was found only the footprints of Manik Angkeran.
So with his power, the Dragon Besukih burned the footprints of Manik Angkeran. Although Manik Angkeran is far from the Dragon, but with the devotion of the Dragon Besukih, the, he also still felt the burning of the footprints so that the body of Manik Angkeran felt hot so that it collapsed and over time became ash.
In East Java, Begawan Sidi Mantra is agitated because his son Manik Angkeran has disappeared and his worship bell is also lost. But Begawan Sidi Mantra knew that his tent was taken by his son Manik Angkeran and felt that his son went to Mount Agung to meet the Dragon Besukih. So he went to Mount Agung.
Arriving at Mount Agung, he saw the Dragon Besukih was outside his palace. In haste Begawan Sidi Mantra asked the Dragon Besukih “Wahai Sang Besukih, did my son Manik Angkeran come here?”
“Yes, he has come here to ask for the treasure he will use to pay off his debts. But when I turned around to take the treasure for him, my tail was cut off by him. And I have burned it to death, for the attitude of your son does not know the return. Now what do you mean by coming here, Begawan Sidi Mantra?”
“I'm sorry, The Besukih! My son is only one, therefore I beg that my son be revived.” beg Sang Begawan.
“For the sake of our friendship, I will fulfill your request. But on one condition, return my tail as before.” said the Dragon Besukih.
“Alright, I will also qualify you!” answer Begawan Sidi Mantra.
So by exerting their respective strengths, Manik Angkeran was revived. Similarly, the tail of the Dragon Besukih can return intact as before.
His advisor Manik Angkeran by Sang Naga Besukih and Begawan Sidi Mantra at length and after that return Begawan Sidi Mantra to East Java. But Manik Angkeran can not come home, he must stay around Mount Agung. Because Manik Angkeran was aware and changed, he did not contradict and obey his father's orders.
And on his way home, when Begawan Sidi Mantra reached the Land of Fortress, he put his stick to the ground to make a boundary with his son. Instantly the former nicks also widened and the sea water rose in his possession. And over time it became a strait. The strait is now named “Selat Bali”.
