origin of the ship island

Once upon a time, there lived a very poor family near the Cecuruk River located in the Bangka Belitung Islands.

This family has a very hard child. They and their families lived on the fruit and leaves they had picked from the forest to the market. Every day, the son goes with his father and mother to look for forest products.

One day, the father went to the forest to find food. While cutting down the bamboo shoots, he found a stick among the bamboo groves. Apparently, the stick was decorated with diamond gems and pomegranate red stones. The father wondered in his heart who the owner of the stick was. The father immediately took the stick home and showed it to his wife and son.

“We should keep this thing, who knows if someone will look for it,” said the father.

“However, we don't have a closet to store this thing, sir. I'm afraid it will be stolen even people,”” replied the mother.

“We just sell the stick, so we do not have to bother storing it,” suggested the child. Finally, his father and mother agreed with his son's proposal.

“Go to the other country, son. Sell this stick and go back home,” said the father.

The boy went to the other country. The precious stick was successfully sold at a high price. However, the child did not immediately return to his village, he chose to settle in the country with money from the sale of valuable sticks.

The life of the child changed very drastically.he became wealthy and mingled with wealthy circles and merchants. For years he did not return to his village. Later, the son married the daughter of one of the richest merchants in the country. One time, the boy's in-laws ordered him to go to trade with his wife. Then, he prepared for the journey by buying a large ship and filing the tough crew.he brought a lot of animals for food during the sailing, so that the atmosphere of the ship was very crowded by the sound of animals. They also set sail.

When he arrived around the Cecuruk River, the child remembered his hometown, the ship was leaning on the river.

“This mom and dad are coming, son!” exclaimed his mother when he arrived at the luxurious ship of the child.

The young man was stunned to see who had come. He did not want to admit his father and mother who were old and poor clan.

“Who are you? Get the hell out of my boat!” shouted the child.

“Son, this is your father and mother. Don't you recognize you? This is my favorite dish, son!” replied the mother sadly.

“Go! I don't like village food! My parents were a rich merchant, not a rascal like you!” exclaim the child while throwing away the food given by his mother.

The hearts of both parents are broken. With tears in their eyes, they left the boy's ship. His mother could not resist his sadness and anger.he also said, “If the rich merchant is right my son, may the shipwreck with him.”

As the words were spoken, a sudden storm and the waves were very large, and high swallowing the luxurious ship of the child and his wife and crew.

The large ship was bobbed and capsized, all passengers were killed instantly, including the child. A few days after the incident, at the place of the shipwreck of the child, appeared an island that resembles a ship. According to the story, at certain times around the island there are often sounds of animals believed to be animals carried by the child on his ship. The island was later named Ship Island.
