Sangkuriangs

Dayang Sumbi is a princess who looks beautiful and noble heart. He went into seclusion into the forest because he was tired of his life in the palace. In addition, this is to avoid disputes between the work of neighbors who scramble to interfere with it.

Because of the beauty of the face and good manners, there are many princes and sons of nobles who propose this King's daughter. As a result, there was a struggle between the kingdoms because all the princes and nobles were not willing to budge. Seeing this incident Dayang Sumbi became sad and finally beg his father to seclude himself. With a heavy heart His Majesty the King approved the request of his son.

In the forest, he was accompanied by his male dog named Tumang. To meet daily needs, Dayang Sumbi weave cloth which is then sold in the market.

One day, his loom fell and rolled down a hill. Dayang Sumbi lazy to take it. Without a second thought, he took an oath, “Who can take my loom? I swear, if it's a girl, I'll make it my brother and if it's a boy, I'll make it my husband.”

Tumang, which is actually a drop of a god, heard the oath of Dayang Sumbi. He immediately ran down the hill and took the Dayang Sumbi loom.

Although not counting on what happened, Dayang Sumbi still kept his promise. Dayang Sumbi finally married Tumang. They had a son named Sangkuriang. The little Sangkuriang was very adept at hunting. He used spears and arrows to kill his prey. Little Sangkuriang never knew who his father was.

That morning, as usual Sangkuriang went hunting with Tumang. “See Humang Sangkuriang immediately pulled out his arrows. But unfortunately, the two deer were aware of the danger and fled. The arrow just hit the thigh of one of the deer. Sangkuriang then told Tumang to chase the deer. “Quick Bumang, go after them! Bite his leg so they can't run anymore,” his orders to Tumang.

In the heart, Tumang actually does not like if his son kills forest animals. Tumang finally pretended to chase the two deer, and he returned without success. “Blood! You should be able to catch it easily,” grumbled Sangkuriang. Disappointed, Sangkuriang expelled Tumang. “Old Dog, get away from me. You are no longer useful!”

If only he knew that Tumang was his father, he would not have kicked him out. With a sad heart, Tumang also left Sangkuriang.

Arriving home, Sangkuriang told his mother, “I almost got a deer. But because of Tumang, I failed. Our dog is too old, Mom,”

Dayang Sumbi looked out and asked, “Where is Tumang now?”

“I've been expelled. Why do we keep it again? He is old and useless.”

Dagang Sumbi gasped. “What? Sangkuriang, how dare you expel Tumang.”

Dayang Sumbi was very angry. He took a spoonful of rice and smacked it into Sangkuriang's head. So hard, Sangkuriang's head was injured and bleeding. Sangkuriang was crying and disappointed. “Why did Mom hit me for a dog?” tanyakanya. Then he packed his things and left the house. Dayang Sumbi regretted his actions, but Sangkuriang had already left him.

When Sangkuriang passed through the market, he saw a beautiful woman. “Beautiful to that woman,” murmured. Sangkuriang did not know, the woman was Dayang Sumbi, her own mother. Sangkuriang approached the woman and invited her to get acquainted. They both fall in love and agree to get married.

One afternoon, Dayang Sumbi was about to cut Sangkuriang's hair. When combing hair

Sangkuriang, Dayang Sumbi was surprised. He saw a scar on Sangkuriang's head. “Don't-ja-ngan..” whispers worried.

“Sangkuriang, why is there a scar on your head?” tanyanya.

“As a child, my mother hit me on the head with a rice spoon. He was angry because I kicked out our pet dog.”

Dayang Sumbi immediately limp to hear Sangkuriang's explanation. Stammered, he said, “Sangkuriang.. I am the Mother who once hit your head, son. We can't get married, we're mother and son.”

“No way, surely this is just your reason to cancel our wedding.” replied Sangkuriang loudly. A thousand times Dayang Sumbi assured him, a thousand times Sangkuriang refused. He still wants to marry Dayang Sumbi!

Finally Dayang Sumbi got the sense. He asked Sangkuriang to dam the Citarum River and make a large boat to cross it. Both must be finished before dawn. If Sangkuriang fails, Dayang Sumbi will not marry him. Sangkuriang responded to Dayang Sumbi's request. For him, both requests were not difficult. Sangkuriang started to work. With the help of the jinn, he worked hard to stem the Citarum River. he did not realize that Dayang Sumbi was secretly watching him.

Dayang Sumbi was anxious to see Sangkuriang could work that fast. “I have to do something soon,” thought. “Aha,” he remembered with the red silk cloth he had just woven. The cloth was quite large in size as he weaved it to use as a curtain and a blanket.

Dayang Sumbi ran towards residential residents. In a panic, he told me what had happened. Residents who have known Dayang Sumbi well, of course, do not agree if Sangkuriang married her. They agreed to help Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi invites residents to roll out the red silk cloth on the east side of the Citarum River. Some of the other residents make a noise as if the morning activities have been done.

Sangkuriang who was working, was surprised to hear the noise. He looked towards the east. Seeing that the sky was red, he thought the morning had arrived. He did not know that it was a red silk cloth held by Dayang Sumbi and the villagers. Sangkuriang was very angry and disappointed. “I have failed,” he said inwardly.

Sangkuriang yells out loud, “I love you, Dayang Sumbiii... I really love you!” Sangkuriang could not fight the anger in him. With all his strength, he broke down the dam he made. Water is spilling everywhere. He also kicked a large boat made of wood. “Gloodakkkk..” the boat was thrown far north in a downturned position.

It is said that reportedly, the boat that fell face down, now known as Mount Tangkuban Perahu, which means “boats that bowed”.
