A long time ago in a village lived a family consisting of Father, Mother and a beautiful teenage girl named Garlic. They are a happy family. Although the father of garlic is only an ordinary merchant, but they live in harmony and peace.
But one day the mother of garlic was very sick and eventually died. Garlic was very grieving as was her father.
In the village there lived a widow who had a child named Bawang Merah. Since Bawang Putih's mother died, Bawang Merah's mother often visited Bawang Putih's house. He often brought food, helped garlic clean the house or just accompanied Bawang Putih and his father to chat.
Finally, Bawang Putih's father thought that it might be better if he just married Bawang Merah's mother, so that Bawang Putih is not lonely anymore.
With the consideration of garlic, then the father Garlic married the mother onion. Initially mother onions and shallots are very good to garlic. But over time their true nature began to appear. They often scolded garlic and gave him heavy work if Bawang Putih's father was going to trade.
Garlic has to do all the homework, while Onion and her mother just sit around. Of course Garlic's father didn't know it, because Garlic never told him.
One day Garlic's father fell ill and later died. Since then Bawang Merah and his mother have become more powerful and arbitrary towards Garlic. Garlic almost never rests.
He had to get up before dawn, to prepare the bath water and breakfast for Onion and his mother. Then he had to feed the cattle, water the garden and wash clothes into the river. Then he still had to iron, clean the house, and many other jobs. But Bawang Putih always does her job happily, because she hopes that one day her stepmother will love her like her own biological child.
This morning as usual Garlic brought a basket containing clothes that he would wash in the river. With a little singing he walked down the path on the edge of a small forest that is usually passed. The weather was very clear that day. Garlic immediately washed all the dirty clothes it carried. So much fun, Garlic did not realize that one of the clothes had washed away.
Unfortunately, the clothes that were washed away were the favorite clothes of his stepmother. When he realized that, his stepmother's clothes had drifted too far. Garlic tried to go down the river to look for it, but did not find it. Desperately she returned home and told her mother.
“Basic sloppy!” snapped his stepmother. “I don't want to know, anyway you have to find that shirt! And don't you dare go home if you haven't found it. Understand?”
Garlic had to obey the wishes of his stepmother. He immediately went down the river where he was washing. Mataharis has begun to rise, but Bawang Putih has not found her mother's clothes. He put his eyes on it, carefully examined every root protrusion that jutted into the river, who knows his mother's shirt stuck there.
After a long step and the sun was tilted to the west, Garlic saw a shepherd who was bathing his shoulders. So Garlic asked: “Good uncle, did uncle see a red shirt drifting through here? Because I have to find and bring it home.” “Yes I saw son. If you chase him fast, maybe you can catch him,” said the uncle.
“Good uncle, thank you!” said Garlic and immediately ran back down. It was getting dark, Garlic was beginning to despair. Soon night will come, and Garlic. From a distance there was a light coming from a hut on the river bank. Garlic immediately approached the house and knocked on it.
“Excuse me..!” the Garlic. An old woman opened the door.
“I Garlic Grandma. I was looking for my mother's clothes. And now night. Can I stay here tonight?” ask Garlic.
“Bby nak. Is the shirt you're looking for red?” ask grandma.
“Ya grandma. What..grandmother found it?” ask Garlic.
“Yes. That shirt was stuck in front of my house. Honey, even though I like the shirt,” said grandma. “Alright I'll return it, but you'll have to accompany me here for a week. I haven't talked to anyone in a long time, how?” pinta grandma. The garlic thought for a moment. Grandma looks lonely. Garlic also feels pity. “Good grandma, I will accompany grandma for a week, as long as grandma does not get bored with me,” said Garlic with a smile.
For a week Garlic stayed with the grandmother. Every day Garlic helps to do grandmother's homework. Of course the grandmother was happy. Until finally even a week, the grandmother also called garlic.
“Son, you've lived here for a week. And I'm glad that you're a diligent and devoted child. That's what I promised you could bring your mother's clothes home. And another one, you can choose one of these two yellow pumpkins as a gift!” grandma says.
At first Garlic refused to be given a gift but grandmother still forced it. Finally Garlic chooses the smallest pumpkin. “I'm afraid not strong bring a big one,” he said. Grandma smiled and delivered Garlic to the front of the house.
Arriving home, Garlic handed over her stepmother's red shirt while she went to the kitchen to split her yellow pumpkin. How surprised garlic when the pumpkin was split, inside it turned out to contain a lot of gold gems.
He cried out with joy and told this miracle to his stepmother and the onion who greedily snatched away the gold and jewels. They forced the garlic to tell her how she got the gift. Garlic tells the truth.
Hearing the garlic story, the onion and his mother planned to do the same but this time the onion will do it. In short, the onion finally arrived at the old grandmother's house on the riverbank. Like garlic, red onions were asked to accompany him for a week. Unlike diligent garlic, for a week it was just lazing around.
Even if something is done then the results are never good because it is always done carelessly. Finally after a week the grandmother allowed the onion to go away. “Shouldn't grandma give me a pumpkin as a gift for accompanying you for a week?” ask the onion. The grandmother was forced to have the onion choose one of the two pumpkins offered. Quickly the onion picked up a large gourd and without saying thank you he waltzed away.
Arriving at the onion house immediately met his mother and happily showed her the pumpkin he was carrying. For fear that the garlic would ask for a share, they told the garlic to go to the river. Then they impatiently split the pumpkin.
But it was not the golden gems that came out of the pumpkin, but venomous animals such as snakes, scorpions, and others. The animals immediately attacked the onion and its mother to death. That is the reward for the greedy.
