Stealing is among the great sins, therefore, in shari’at Islam if the theft reaches a nisab and meets the criteria as mentioned above, the thief is subject to a penalty of hand-cutting and is obliged to return as much stolen goods. If a thief is forgiven by the owner of the stolen goods, the punishment is meted out.
About the punishment of cutting off hands for thieves, mentioned in the Qur’an :
which means:"38. the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off his second hand (as) the vengeance for what they do and as a punishment from God. and Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Whoever repents (among the thieves) after committing the crime and repairs himself, Allah will accept his repentance. Verily, Allah is Most Merciful. (Quran Letter. Al Maidah verses 38-39)
From the aspect of moral science the category of theft is not limited to taking the property of others without rights. But including theft is to take anything that is not currently owned by the owner and disappointed others. Examples such as stealing hear, stealing news, stealing views and others. Theft like this even though there is no penalty for cutting hands but the law ha-ram.
There are also negative consequences of stealing.
Danger for the theft
Impermanence in life, worry and fear because it is always overshadowed by his sin, or at least worry about being caught by law enforcement
It will be further from the guidance of Allah SWT, because every sin committed will be imprinted in his heart and if he does not stop it will be more lapsed in transgression
Rejected all his acts of worship, for Allah SWT does not accept the charity of a man whose entrails and clothes are of illicit goods
Danger to society
