A bright Sunday morning..
Mama invited me and the Khalif bang to come to the market this morning. We are both happy not playing. The market distance from our home is not too far away. Five minute walk. I had imagined I would buy my favorite traditional food.
At the market, my mom told me to wait in front of a store. I nodded slowly. And the brother followed with the same nod.
I think we waited long enough. But my mom didn't come out of the store. I peeked outside and tried to read the name of the store.
"The Azwar Gold Shop" read slowly.
"Bang, bang, did you buy gold?" ask me while poking my brother's hip.
Brother peeked in from outside. "It seems.." replied the brother whispered.
"Well mama has a lot of money dong.... hooray!!!" I cried with passion
"But the deck.." said my brother slowly...
We both caught the view in the shop. We watched as the old gentlemen of the shop owner helped my mom open the earrings. Well, open the mama's earrings.
Me and the Khalif bang stared at each other. Then look sad. Of course sad, we realized that mama actually sold her earrings. As far as I know, that's the last piece of jewelry Mama's got.
Mom just came out full of smiles.
"Dear dear." Mama guided my hand and guided my brother's hand.
We're speechless. And follow mom's footsteps.
"What food do you want to buy?" ask mama.
"Ga there is maa." answered my lethargic brother.
"What do you want to buy?" ask the next mom.
I answered the same thing with my brother. All the shadows about the food I had in mind were gone. Mama caught the sadness from our faces.
Mama stopped her steps, mama squatted right in front of me.
"You why? he said he wanted to buy cake, buy satay, and buy porridge" asked the mother full of wonder.
"Ga naga maa. brother want to eat fried rice mama's cooking later" replied my brother.
"Why?" ask mama softly.
"Why are mama earrings for sale?" chirping me while a manyun.
"Ooh.. So that's why you don't buy food? and not to be a snack?" mama replied smiling.
Mama holds my shoulder and brother's shoulder.
"Mama selling earrings because it is already narrow darling.mama's ears become sick.so mama wants to sell it"
"What do you want if your ears bleed and fester?" mama's asked to convince us.
Either we were too innocent at that time or too trusting the same mother's words. Until we believed the earrings were narrow in your ears. Smiles are etched on our faces. Finally our hearts were relieved, mama sold earrings not because of lack of money and not because she wanted to fulfill our desire so much.
We bought a lot of food that day. My mom allowed whatever we wanted. Except when I whine for a car.
I cried and forced my mom to buy me that car. No matter what Mom says. I kept whining and pulling my mama's clothes to buy me that car.
"Decks... mama may buy anything as long as it can make the deck full.." mama started with a high voice.
I still don't care. Keep pulling my mom's shirt. "Adek wants the mobilan maa. adek want it maa..."
I didn't want to get out of the toy salesman's father. My mother persuaded me in many ways. And my brother started to persuade me.
"Dek, tomorrow brother buy adek mobilan ya. brother jajan money tube brother.."
"Don't want it. adek want it. adek want it now.." My tears broke.
Mom tried to pull my hand. I refused and kept trying to reach for the toy. Half the scene happened. I kept crying and whining. Until finally, my mother could not hold back her emotions. My mother pulled my hand by force.
All eyes are staring at me. Many mothers whisper what they say. I kept crying and screaming.
"Adek wants the toy to be.." Keep crying.
"Huu... Huo... Huu.." I cried all the way home. In the position of my mother, I forcefully pulled my hand.
Arriving at the front porch of the house, Mama released her grasp. His face was full of anger.
"Bad mama.." I shouted.
"Mama's a stingy. My friends all have mobilan.me's the one that doesn't have" I kept shouting while wiping my tears.
Mama took the cake I had bought and handed it to me. I threw the cake to the ground.
Mama took a strong breath. And handed satay into my hands.
"Udah dear. This satay eat his yok dear. must be adek hungry" said soft start.
And again I shook my mother's hand. Not accidentally that satay fell to the ground.
Mama who initially just fell silent with the anger finally went up. Mom ran into the house and came out with a broom. Mama beat my leg with a broom.
"Son doesn't know yourself.. Do you know how hard I've worked to make money for you??" mama kept beating a battery full of emotions.
I shouted for mercy. But my mother ignored my words at all.
"Pardon me. "I'm sorry.." I keep asking for forgiveness.
My brother cried so hard to see a mother who was so full of emotions. This was the first time my mom looked so angry and emotional.
Mama cried and left me with pain and red bruises on my feet.
He hugged me and wiped my tears.
"Don't be naughty anymore." she said while crying.
I was still sobbing and couldn't stop my tears. In my heart I am truly sorry. Because I realized, I was wrong. I don't hate my mom at all. But I was afraid to go to my mother's room. I choose to hide behind the house.
****
My stomach is getting hungry. Since morning has not eaten anything. The cake and satay were eaten by chicken.
"Maa. adek hungry" said I lirih.
Mama doesn't care at all. She continued washing clothes in the bathroom.
"Maa. adek hungry maa.." I said again.
Mom looked back. And with a flat face mama replied, "Certain??? haven't you thrown the cake and satay away??"
I was silent and felt more guilty. My brother came up to me and gave me a piece of bread. I accepted it and ate it right away.
Mom ran out of the house. And soon came home with the package in his hand.
"This is the deck, mama bought satay.." Mama handed me a pack of satay.
I hugged my mom with energy.
"I'm sorry adek maa.. adek promise will not be repeated again.pardon adek maa" my tears broke again.
Mama kissed my head. "I'm sorry mom is also a child.I'm sorry mom can't make adek happy.I'm sorry mom can't give what other people can give to her child.I'm sorry mamaa" . Mama sobbed and kept kissing my cheeks.
I eat satay with gourmand. And mama gave eucalyptus oil to the bruised kakiki.
My brother looked at me with pity. And as much as I catch from the corner of her eye as she wipes her tears.
That was the first and last time I did anything. From that moment on, my brother and I decided to help my mother make money. After school, we went fried food sales around the village. My neighbors are cooking and we help sell them. That is our activity every time we go home from school. And we never complained once.
