The first part of Ryan's conversation with Zayn centers on the young man, whose figure never disappears from Zayn. Time no longer thought of. The clock has shown at two in the morning but both are still closed to stop chatting.
Zayn noticed how often Ryan's gaze turned to the sleeping girl. Several times the heir to the Crandall family walked up to the sofa and stood up while looking at Farah, seemingly unaware of his own actions, though once, as the girl's lips opened and let out a soft snoring sound, the, which implies great exhaustion, Ryan lowered his head at the back of the sofa and smiled at Farah very gently. The blanket slumped down from over Farah's shoulder, and Ryan gently pulled her back, while Zayn, who was watching them, found it hard to remember what they were talking about. It was obvious in Zayn's eyes that their relationship was not simple.
Then the conversation turned to Ryan's grandmother. Suddenly, Ryan said, "I've asked you twice what evil plan my grandmother made. Twice you switched the conversation. If it's that bad, do I have to pour more wine for myself?"
Zayn smiled hesitantly. "I don't mean to overdramatize. But I'm afraid he's planning something for you."
The green bottle in Ryan's hand stopped halfway to the glass. In the silence, Zayn saw Farah's eyes open, but the girl remained lying without making a sound, staring blankly at the painting on the wall.
The bottle of wine trembled slightly at the edge of Ryan's glass. After putting down the glass, Ryan said in a soft voice, "Zayn......".
"Your grandmother is again worried about the family's successor" Zayn said at last.
"It wasn't a surprise." A crisp laugh and Ryan's tanned eyes looked at Zayn. "I know the Crandall dynasty cannot break up. But someone had to tell him I could produce a child without his help. More than two hundred girls have been thrust upon me. I don't know if there's another single woman in New York she hasn't observed."
Realizing that the girl on the sofa blinked her eyes. Zayn said, "Exactly. So far, from the traces of his plan that I can trace, it looks like he thinks his wife and son will keep you in New York. He was old, lonely, and-" Zayn was speechless, observing Ryan who was walking towards the fireplace. This is not a good time to advise. There was no point in arguing at length about this matter, but Zayn was forced to say, "Omong-jumbo, your grandmother used a new tactic to find a wife for you."
"It's no use" said Zayn. "The position will soon be filled,"
Shocked by Ryan's unexpected announcement, Zayn waits for his adopted son to explain further. When Ryan didn't say anything else, Zayn tried to calm himself down and said, "Because he didn't get any information about you, your grandmother tried to find a girl for you. No one ever knows what's on your grandmother's mind. Maybe the idea that through your wife, she might be able to win back your love."
"Damn," Ryan exclaimed in annoyance. "What girl?".
"Indonesian girl who is smart and comes from a respectable family"
Ryan leaned one shoulder next to the fireplace. "I don't know my grandmother knew a girl on another continent."
Zayn didn't waste any time asking if Ryan meant his grandmother didn't know any Indonesian girls or any smart ones. "He doesn't know. Keith Smith was the one who was interested in that girl."
"I can assure you," Ryan said as he stared intently at his foster father, "Keith is not interested in young girls."
As a man of keen instincts, Zayn has worked hard, especially over the past few years to prevent himself from becoming a haughty person. However, there were some things he could never hear with sobriety, and one of them was about Keith's moral depravity.
Ryan thought for a moment before replying, "Andrew Baldwin. Secretary Defense. His son is a member of the secret service whose prowess is well known they say, the only brained person among the staff of Archery. He dealt a crushing blow to spies in other countries. I remember that name being mentioned in a conversation I had with Keith. He never told me that he had a relationship with them."
"Keith's relationship was with the secret service member's mother, before the woman married Mr. Baldwinian. The woman was Indonesian and had long since died. How Keith knew him, or when, I don't know, but Keith had such a strong attachment that he deliberately placed someone on the staff to watch over the daughter of the Baldwin family who had no mother, a man who used to be a Dark Devil boy named Henry, was indeed a bastard, but according to Keith's explanation to your grandmother, he was a reliable person."
Farah who was on the sofa, immediately paled, and her eyes widened. A pinch of hair stuck to his wet forehead. It's too cruel. Zayn promised himself that as soon as he told Ryan this unpleasant affair, he would insist that Farah sleep in the room.
Zayn continued, "Your grandmother had a connection with the girl's aunt in Indonesia at Keith's request, It seems Keith never told your grandmother that he intended to bring Miss Baldwin to America, but that's the impression your grandmother got. As a result he took the initiative to first invite the girl to meet him.............."
"That's impossible!". Sergey Ryan.
"It looks like he thinks it would be better to find a girl who wouldn't be too scandalous if you rejected him for thinking he didn't" Zayn couldn't seem to find the right word to affirm it.
"It's not worth marrying?" ryan said coldly, "Poor Miss Baldwin."
"True, poor Miss Baldwin," Zayn agreed.
"Your grandmother had several options on how to bring the girl to America. He wrote a letter to Miss Baldwin's aunt that included a promise to arrange a good marriage for her nephew and gave the letter to Andreas with orders that Andreas himself bring the two women to America with a regular passenger plane."
"And you just let it go? With Andreas meddling in my grandmother's efforts to find a wife for me?!" There was a mistrust in Ryan's eyes.
"You know I won't let it go" Zayn replied in an offended tone. "But the correspondence is done at the highest level. Your grandmother had a close relationship with Whitehall's side. I don't need to remind you how Whitehall reacted to your marriage problems."
"No," said Ryan, rising from the side of the fireplace and lowering his untouched wine at the side table in a loud clinking voice. "You don't have to remind me. From the look on your face it looks like you're expecting Andreas to kill that girl!"
"That's what I'm afraid of" Zayn said, regret was clearly heard there. "There is no evidence, but the girl disappeared at the airport before the plane took off. The girl's aunt is here now. Living with your mother and at first the aunt thought the girl had run away to live with her father; but we got word the girl was not at her father's house, and the father insists that the tantenta has no right to move his daughter to America and demands that the daughter be returned to him immediately. The issue became part of the peace talks, as the Indonesian side did not believe in Whitehall's recognition that we do not know where the girl was...."
Ryan was no longer listening. It turned to look at Farah, who looked back at Ryan by hand*********** blanket. Ryan's lips opened slightly, and in his wide-eyed look a dumbfounded impression. Zayn finds it hard to read Ryan's facial expression, but it doesn't seem to be the case with Farah. Farah muttered something, a vague exclamation, and quickly got up from the sofa running towards the door.
