Gani does not understand what is going on with Vira. The woman continued to look down with a somewhat stingy breath. Gani thinks Vira is having shortness of breath but Vira's hand signals indicate that there is nothing to worry about. Not only Gani, Bagas could only look on anxiously.
Gani stared at her brother who was sitting back at his desk with Mas Adjie. Staring at Papa and Mama who were standing in front gave a speech. The face of the second sumringah that made jokes provoked the laughter of the guests. All looked elated, only Vira looked down like she was enduring the pain.
“Vir, want to rest in guest room only?” ask Gani slowly.
Vira was silent and did not answer. Vira remembered how to regulate his breath with the rhythm taught by Sandeep, his guide while in Annapurna. Turns out pretty helpful. Vira lifted her head and smiled looking at Gani and Bagas. Sipping water in a glass and then rearranging his breath.
“Have you improved?” gani asked who was answered with a nod of Vira.
Vira then glanced forward, to see the welcome from Mr. Sasongko and Ms. Ruth. This means that Vira inevitably also looks at the back of the man who just spent last night with her. The backs of the men he purposely touched when their bodies were so tight for a kiss. The back of the man he had once hoped to protect for a moment.
Aaah, Vira feels so stupid. It seemed like he felt deceived by everyone here, like a loser who was deliberately invited to be laughed at. Vira became sorry for herself. Already deceived, his emotions turbulent and now regret what happened. Like a weak woman. Huh!
But, for whatever he has to grieve, he did not have any relationship with the man. Why should I regret it too. Why should I be hurt too. All this time he felt he had lost nothing. Come to think of it Mas Cokro never promised anything to her. Why did he become so sad.
“Vir, you sure are okay right?” ask Gani again to just make sure. Gani feels that there is something strange in Vira tonight and he does not know what causes it.
Vira forced herself to smile. He saw the face of this shady man. The man who will be his sister-in-law Mas Cokro. The man who proposed to her. It's such a coincidence.
“Gan, I went there first yes, nengokin nephew. Kasian Mbak Adjeng, like to eat,” Bagas permission while pointing at the table at the front end. Gani smiled nodding.
Gani doesn't talk much to Vira, it seems awkward. Usually it is always Vira who starts the conversation but Vira is still sad and not excited. They are more silent.
Shortly thereafter the chair next to Vira was pulled and then a middle-aged woman with an age-indulgent beauty sat next to her and then greeted.
“This is Gani's friend huh?” greet Ruth's mother with a warm smile to Vira.
The soft voice of this woman suddenly diverts the mind of Vira who is still in a state of mind. The gentle gaze given made Vira become a little calmer. Vira smiled nodding in response to the question given.
“Waah, Gani was never invited friends to play at home let alone women. You're one campus?”
“I am a junior but different Faculty Aunty,” replied Vira.
“What's the name?” ask Ruth's mother.
“Vira, Aunt.”
Oh, you're the one who interned at my office too huh? Faisal told me, only Aunt has never met her son. That's you, right?”
“Iya Aunt, it is indeed me.”
“Thank you for coming yes, and thank you for being Gani's friend. Auntie would like to greet the other guests. There's Mr. Soedharman and his wife, have not met for a long time.”
Vira nodded and smiled. Unconsciously she was so stunned by Mother Ruth's appearance, her pale white skin was only swept with thin makeup, her hair was covered in a dip, and her plump body showed exclusive care.
Mr. Sasongko seemed to be busy talking to his future iron. It also seems that he was unaware of Vira's presence. Even Vira guessed for sure that Mr. Sasongko would not recognize himself as an intern at his office. During this time Vira was more often in contact with Mr. Faisal, his expert staff. Even Vira did not see Mr. Faisal present at this garden party. It seems limited to certain invitations.
Vira looked around. Mas Cokro was still staring straight ahead, just silent and not talking. While Lydia was busy chatting with some people who looked the same age.
Vira begins to master her emotions. Although the pain was still a little peeling in his chest, but Vira realized that she and Mas Cokro did not have any relationship. Vira thought that what happened was just a kind of nostalgia of romance in Annapurna. While on the mountain, meeting new people, the opposite sex, and the atmosphere together while in Deurali cause a kind of syndrome to repeat the feelings that once existed. And that's not love. Vira felt so naive to mean it more.
Vira doesn't really understand this kind of garden party. It doesn't seem like a very rigid protocol with rules. Everyone chatted, went to each other's tables, and said hello. The driver of the show was busy with a plate filled with food. There are only singers who sing soft songs accompanied by soft guitar quotes. Simple but full of familiarity.
Some catering staff serve some food on the plates served at each table. Just order what you want, can be taken directly. The taste of Vira also suddenly decreased dramatically. Not only because of Mas Cokro but there was a sense of gloating that Vira felt should not be present at this family event.
“You didn't eat Vir? Mas fetchin huh? Eat heavy or light?” tanya Gani offers.
Vira smiled but felt really bad. The homeowner's son offered to get food for him. “Don't Mas Gani, let it be taken mas-mas staff only.”
Vira ate with a soft wet snack given by the catering staff and glanced towards the table in front of her. Mas Cokro just played his phone. Not much has been done since. Only occasionally talk to Mr. Sasongko, a middle-aged woman like his mother, and the husband of his older sister. Even Mas Cokro did not look back even though Lydia was chatting with her friends.
It seems like Lydia is starting to realize Vira's whereabouts and is walking towards her desk.
“Hi Vira, nice to see you here [Hai Vira, nice to meet you here]! How is the food? Do you like it? [how's the food? You like?]”. Lydia's eyes glanced at Gani, her sister.
Vira smile. “Congratulations Brother Lydia, good luck getting to the wedding.”
“Wow I haven’t think about it yet [Wow, I don't think until there deh!],” says Lydia.
“Let me introduction to my fiancee [I know my fiancee yes]!” said Lydia who then approached Mas Cokro and patted him on the shoulder from behind.
Vira nodded and took a deep breath. Calm Vir, calm down, her mind. Just ordinary. Don't look like a broken hearted person. Calm down, calm down, Mas Cokro is nobody, so be normal. Repeatedly the inner Vira tried to calm herself so as not to do something stupid.
Vira smiles as Lydia pulls Cokro's hand towards her desk. Cokro followed right behind Lydia and soon Vira found Mas Cokro's shocked eyes staring at her.
“Mas Adjie, let me introduce Vira, Gani’s girl friend [known Vira Mas, her girl Gani],” said Lydia with sumringah.
“Vir,” murmured Mas Cokro in a surprised tone. The mutter that made Lydia turn to Cokro and then look at Vira. The murmur that made Gani look up at Cokro. The mutter that made Vira smile grimaced.
“Wow, I see you are no strangers to one another [Waah, I think you already know each other yes]!” lydia exclaimed in astonishment.
“So, how long you two know each other [So, have known since when]?” ask Lydia.
“That's Brother, that, Mas Cokro was once up the mountain with Vira,” replied Vira broke the stiffness because from earlier the view of Cokro as if to imply wanting to give an explanation to Vira.
“Not Kak, one troupe. Ride Annapurna yesterday. There are five climbers,” Vira trying to explain in an ordinary tone.
“Vir, can we talk to you for a minute?” tanya Mas Cokro sharply made Lydia look astonished. Gani felt that way too. Vira himself felt the air starting to feel hot around him.
“Iya Mas, just talk, please Mas Cokro,” replied Vira relaxed and polite.
“Meaning Mas, we talk alone,” said Mas Cokro sharply regardless of the presence of Lydia and Gani.
“Oh okay, seems something very important you need to talk about [oh well, it seems like there is something you need to talk about],” muttered Lydia slowly and then gave a sign to Gani to follow her.
After Lydia and Gani move away, Cokro takes a seat next to Vira.
“Vir, why are you here?” ask Cokro
“Invited by Mas Gani and Kak Lydia,” replied Vira honestly.
“Mas can't tell here. But Mas wants Vira to believe that this is not what Vira saw.”
“Mas, we'll explain later. Here many people, close guests of the family Mas Gani and Kak Lydia, it is not nice to see that Mas Cokro chat with Vira. Yes, yes, Mas!” sergeant Vira in a soft tone of voice and while smiling as if no emotions came out.
Cokro sighed and was silent for a moment before standing back towards his desk without saying a word to Vira. Vira also stood walking towards the food buffet. His stomach suddenly became hungry. It was a relief when Mas Cokro finally found out Vira was here. Relieved when Vira shows no emotion when talking to Mas Cokro. A sense of relief that then made him hungry.
Visible in front of Vira are lined with oriental and western cuisine. It seemed like only a shame to Gani made him just take a portion to taste. Two slices of thick wellington salmon. Salmon covered in pastry leather with steamed spinach and cheese sauce inside. Vira adds a bit of coarse mashed potatoes and cream sauce with a slight sensation of powdered pepper and wasabi. A new taste on his tongue but suitable to be combined with mashed potatoes.
“Still hungry Vir?” asked Gani who was present suddenly without Vira knowing it.
“Hahaha, make a surprise anyway Mas. Yes, koq is so hungry gini, but it was ordinary. This salmon is so good. Nutritional improvements for students who snack in the canteen mulu,” joked Vira.
The two of them did not return to the table, spending the food on the available chairs near the pool.
“Eat here only Mas Gani, so if you are still hungry back and forth not far away,” said Vira who made Gani laugh.
Vira deliberately moved away and did not return to the table because for some reason suddenly there were many eyes that were paying attention to her. It all started with Mas Cokro who asked to speak together. Many eyes may wonder why Kak Lydia's unusually quiet fiancee suddenly talks to a woman they don't know. Trying to take a moment away from people's eyes so they forget.
This time Vira was so excited to talk to Gani. All sorts of stories that could make Gani laugh. All sorts of things told so that he would forget what had just happened. He looked at the figure of a shady man sitting beside him. There is not a single word that is spoken to ask about its relationship with Mas Cokro. Never once asked questions that make himself cornered. What a kind man.
Vira feels like it's been too long at this garden party. However, people were still busy talking and laughing. Seemed so enjoying the show. Catering staff served food and drinks. Take a dirty plate and pour the drink in the glasses that start to empty. The digital clock shows the number 9.15. It turned out that only two hours less of the party was going on. Remembering him Gani said it was likely the party would be over at ten or eleven p.m.
“Why Vir? Want to go back to the kost?” ask Gani who saw the spirit of Vira.
“Hahaha, the willpower? Tomorrow there's a morning lecture anyway, eight o'clock, but it's okay. There's no job."
“It's okay if you want to go home now. Permission to return to Mamah, Papah, and Sister Lydia first yes!”
As Vira expected, even Mr. Sasongko did not realize that he was an apprentice student in his office. Just smiling as Gani asks permission to take Vira home. Mr. Sasongko seems to be still busy talking to prospective besan and other middle-aged men called Mr. Soedharman. Similarly, Ruth's mother was also comfortable talking with the mother of Mas Cokro and the woman who was called the Mother of Soedharman. Ruth's mother smiled at Vira and just gave a cautious message on the way.
Brother Lydia hugged Vira so tightly. Even Brother Lydia did not ask in the slightest about what Mas Cokro was talking about with her. Not at all offensive to Mas Cokro in the slightest. Makes Vira relieved.
“Be safe yes [be careful yes]!” lydia.
Vira smiles and nods and follows Gani who steps into the house.
“Wait a minute Vir, Mas change clothes first, all of you take the wallet in the room!” gani.
Vira nodded then herself waited in the living room chair. But for a moment he stood up, too comfortable it seemed, afraid of falling asleep. Vira walked towards the kitchen clean. There's a bar stool there. It seems better to sit there, close to the door that connects with the garage on the side.
“You're home now?” ask someone behind Vira, a voice she has known so well. A voice that made him hold his breath.
Vira turned her body, facing the figure of the mature man in the one standing in front of her. “Iya Mas, it's night. Later home people worry,” replied Vira with as much calm as possible.
“Mamah has returned? Hows it? Is it okay?” ask Cokro.
“Alhamdulillah well, Mas!”
“Later after this event is over, Mas to Vira's house. Wait Mas later Mas will clear everything!” chocolate Pinta with a serious face.
“Don't now Mas, it's night, not good for everyone,” elak Vira refused what Mas Cokro said.
“Tomorrow Mas come yes, Vira promise not to go anywhere,” pinta Mas Cokro.
Vira tried to smile without answering. Behind Cokro looks Gani who is heading towards him. Gani has changed materials with leather pants and t-shirts, more casual.
“You home now Vir?” asked Gani who made Cokro turn his body and looked at the figure of a man of Vira's age.
Gani smiled and nodded towards Mas Cokro. “I take Vira home Mas!”
Cokro nodded and with pushy eyes looked at the two walking towards the door on the left side of the kitchen clean and then disappeared from his sight. Cokro took a long breath. The problem gets more complicated, somehow explaining it to Vira. It was unexpected that Vira knew both Gani and Lydia.
When Cokro turned around about to return to his garden party, it appeared that Bagas was already standing in front of him. Seems like it's been there long enough.
“Mas Adjie called Mom,” said Bagas short then went to leave Cokro first back to the party.
