^Grey Sunday Night
I don't know what made them stop, nobody knows. The burning breaths of the two were now normal. Cokro hugged Vira so gently, burying Vira's head in her chest. The television sounds are now clear. Their sense of hearing that was dominated by the sense of taste and touch is now recovered.
But they remained silent. No one moved from their position. Just leaving memories in their minds of the events that just happened.
Vira saw a number in an analog clock showing the number ten. He was feeling worried himself.
“Why Vir?” ask Cokro.
“Mamah has not yet returned. Vira take the phone first,” said Vira then escape from the embrace of Cokro.
Cokro followed Vira's steps towards the room. Vira was busy looking for her phone.
“Last open mobile when?” ask Cokro while looking around the room Vira. Brown eyes pounded on a photo of Vira together with Kosa located on the nightstand next to the bed.
“Oh, my goodness. Last night, after calling Natha from Ancol, Vira did not open her phone again Mas,” exclaimed Vira while patting her forehead.
Vira immediately looked for her brown knitting bag and found her phone which turned out to be dead due to battery drain. Vira just connected her phone with a charger. Waiting for him a few moments first just turned on.
Vira sees Mas Cokro still staring at a photo of himself with Kosa. There was an unease that suddenly lingered in his heart. Vira then walked towards the nightstand and immediately took a photo with that simple wooden frame. He put the photo in his dresser drawer.
And now Cokro saw his sweet woman speechless. Cokro felt there was an inner struggle that Vira was feeling. Circled with both hands Cokro wrapped around Vira's body. Hugged it from behind. Trying to convince Vira that everything will be fine. He wanted to say that today was a good start for both of them.
“Vira,” heard a firm voice calling her. It turns out that Natha who has come home and is now in Vira's room, the door was open.
Cokro let go of his embrace and nodded towards Natha.
“Mas wait under ya!” whispered Cokro slow.
Natha's face looked so stern and scary. As if ready to let out a raging anger.
“Crazy lo ya Vir, alone at home and bring a guy in to your room, absolutely outrageous!” damprat Natha with a thunderous voice.
“Nath, Nath. It's not like you saw. I just went in Nath's room, got my cell phone, called Mamah. I'm the same Mas Cokro did not say anything in the room. I swear to Nath!”
“Take the Cokro home now,” Natha's orders are hard which makes Vira go straight down to meet Mas Cokro.
Cokro seemed to understand what was happening upstairs because Natha's voice sounded quite clear in her ears. Cokro wants to explain everything to Natha, but it feels the time is not right. It will only add to the complexity of the problem.
“Sorry,” says Vira lirih. Verily, Vira felt bad about this situation.
Cokro grabbed Vira's hand and held it.
“Mas go home first! Mas dear Vira,” said Cokro slowly. It was like hugging Vira and peeping her forehead but Cokro felt Vira might reject him out of fear of Natha.
-------------------------------------
Natha's face did not change even though Cokro had gone home. An angry and angry face makes Vira sure that Natha will judge him for what he has seen.
“Nath, don't be angry. I really did not do anything with Mas Cokro in the room.”
Natha took a long breath. “My eyes are still normal Vir. And if I don't come home fast, I can't imagine you guys will do what.”
“Nath, koq that's the way it is. I'm honest with you Nath, if I want to be able to from before you go home Nath. Mas Cokro it came to the house at seven.”
“Crazy lu Vir, don't miss the incident deh.” Natha began to catch her breath. Natha was trying to reduce the tension that was emanating from her face.
“I saw Cokro curl you from behind that, I can't think anymore Vir. Last time, I wanted to throw Cokro using my phone.”
“Don't Nath! He really doesn't say anything to me.”
“Totally? You are Vir, you love to give me facts. Honestly, Cokro did it?” natha asked in a sharp tone.
Vira was silent for a moment. Trying to find the words and tinker with them so as not to be too bad to hear Natha. It was hard for him to describe his kiss with Mas Cokro who replied to each other with words.
“Hhmm, the.. Mas Cokro comes around seven o'clock at night, seven o'clock less than ten. Trus I make coffee, Mas Cokro cook chicken breast made steak using mushroom sauce baked potatoes with mozzarella cheese. Trus I help pour apple juice in the glass, wash the furniture the same dirty dishes. Abis was watching tivi, I kissed Mas Cokro and Mas Cokro bales nyium, then I entered the cell phone room, Mas Cokro curled me, and you dateng Nath. That's it, I didn't lie to Nath.”
Natha shook her head, it seemed like there was something wrong with her hearing.
“What Vir were you talking about? Allu nyium first trus dibales same Cokro?” natha asked as if she wanted to confirm the truth.
“Iya,” replied Vira softly in a very quiet voice, barely audible.
“Hah,” shouted Natha. “Koq can? Not that you're afraid of Cokro. Tapek-capek elu hindarin tuh people sampe ngekost in Depok and now suddenly you have dared to nyium first? Issh, don't understand me. You are crazy.”
Vira grimaced with a pias face holding in shame.
“Gue doesn't know why either. Ah Nath, no more talking. I'm also embarrassed about it.”
“Nath, Mamah has not returned Nath, earlier I want to call Mamah Tante Hana but you keburu dateng. Call Mamah Nath, where are you. Koq, it's too late not to go home,” said Vira sounded panicked because suddenly remembered Mamah who had not come home.
Natha melengos annoyed. “One of the things that makes sprains from you is you never pick up Lu's phone! Mamah call you not connect, chat message tick one, I call you also the same. I checked the notification of your last chat message opened yesterday at one mall. That's right Vir!”
“Mamah called you Nath? So what does he say?” ask Vira.
“Si Bimo ngajakin Mamah same Aunt Hana to the Top. He said he had eaten Soto Mie in the parking lot of Atta’Awun Mosque. Do not know what time it will be home, the driver wong is just the Bimo, where just had a SIM and a child. I said it's okay to go home tomorrow, tell Bimo to rest first. Find a hotel there. Eeh, the Mamah even nanya Papah has gone home what not, as I was horrified. It is difficult for Mamah hepi-hepi not to use Papah.”
“Good Nath, I'm so worried. My phone is dead, it just got dicas.”
“You don't think alike Kosa? Not waiting for a call or chat from him? Weird!”
Vira fell silent. There was a part of him that didn't want to think about Kosa especially after what happened tonight. But some of him are filled with regret that always comes after the presence of Mas Cokro.
“Gue don't know Nath, I'm so confused as to my own feelings”
“Don't be confused for long. You can't play with people's feelings. If you like Cokro, talk frankly with Kosa and break up. Or vice-versa. If you still love Kosa, stay in Cokro. No one likes to be cheered on for his love.”
“If this is my name I cheated on ya Nath? That's right Mirna said. I feel rich Papah, Nath. I was very angry when Papah had another family. I'm not loyal to Mom and I'm the same. At first I didn't want to be like Nath, but I don't know why today koq even laughed at the feeling.”
“Yaudah anyway, it has happened like this, want to be flanked again. Feelings cannot be lied to. But yes Vir, really, love story lo ribet really,” snorted Natha.
“Hah, you who just saw say ribet, how do I who rasain? Ah Nath, I want to sleep. Later when Mamah comes home, you'll open the door!”
Vira headed for the room. After putting on her pajamas and cleaning her face with cleansing milk, she lays her body on the mattress, relaxes stiff muscles, and soothes tired eyes. Looks like his phone is located on the nightstand and is still connected to the flickering charger cable. It seemed like there were many notifications coming in, making Vira even more reluctant to open them. Without checking the notification, Vira immediately turned off her phone.
-----------------------------
At first Kosa was not too worried why Vira did not reply to chat messages from him. Vira habits that rarely open the phone and check notifications since the beginning of the approach are always considered commonplace by Kosa. But this time Kosa felt something was different. Unrequited chat messages, Vira's out-of-reach phone, and unanswered calls, make Kosa wonder in her heart what's going on with her.
He sees the waves at night. Sea water that is high but has not removed the entire beach. Some young people play guitar and sing in the park area facing the beach. After enjoying grilled seafood and drinking beer, Matsuoka Sensei chose to rest in his room, as well as Mr. Hamid. There is a sin that is not sleepy. His mind was only fixed on Vira who never gave news.
It might be that the internship assignment given to him is too heavy or it could be that Vira is gathering with her friends. But Kosa corrected his thinking. Vira is the type who quickly completes his tasks and almost never gets together with his friends. Kosa began to think about the possibilities that occurred.
He wrote a chat message to Mirna, Vira's sister who then told her that Vira was at Bekasi's house alone. Mirna apologized for not being able to tell Vira because she was at a friend's house and Vira's phone could not be reached. At least the news from Mirna slightly made Kosa able to breathe a sigh of relief, not too worried even though her sense of longing had peaked.
He saw the dim highlight of the fishermen's lights who were at sea. The faint flickering and dim moonlight that was covered in black clouds gave off a gray atmosphere. Kosa then took a photo of the waves and posted them on the status of her chat messaging app, without any description. It was as if the photo was portraying his mood.
A few chat messages came in. All of his college friends who asked him where he was. Including from Danu.
Danu: [Sa, where are you? Back from Attack?]
Sin: [Again in Anyer, nemenin Matsuoka Sensei]
Danu: [Bundered with Mr. Irsyam and Mas Syahran, he said you are very difficult to contact. They want to meet with the Pilkada research meeting]
Kosa: [Yes, I'll call them, tomorrow back]
Danu: [eh, OOT, you're still the same Vira right?]
Sins: [Still, why?]
Gaia: [Ooh, gpp]
Kosa no longer replies to her chat messages and decides to call Danu, her best friend, just to find out what she really wants to say. He wanted to hear firsthand all the things that were related to Vira.
Danu: “Eh Sa, use any phone. All right about Vira.”
Cosa: “Koq you said that, why?”
Danu: “Kagak, I yesterday it was the same way Trisha and Niken, through front of the cost of the Vira. Incidentally he again got off the car, delivered the same guy, buseeet deh Sa, tuh car saucy bener.”
Suddenly Kosa's mind immediately floated to the figure of a mature man who had been chasing Vira, who also had a luxury car. Was it the man who drove Vira home? Why did Vira take him there? Didn't Vira just stay at the boarding house because she wanted to avoid the man? There were a lot of questions in his mind.
Danu: “Sa, koq diem anyway?”
Can: “Eh, no. The Vira kali Nu. Gossip is you can."
Danu: “Short of gossip I. Abis, I met Vira at Cak Wit, he bought a chicken pecel. I asked who it was. He said he was the boss's son at the internship. Only the Vira rush it, he said afraid of being padlocked the fence kostnya.”
Culinary; “Ooh.”
Danu: “Wakakaka, I know you padlockur Sa. My intention is to say gini let you kesel. I just want to lo!”
Sin: “By what the hell you are, already ah!”
Danu: “Don't forget Monday to campus Sa, ntar meeting also the same Kimmy and Bokep.”
Code: “Sipp.”
The swiping of the red phone icon and immediately the conversation with Danu stopped. But his head did not stop to think about who the man who drove Vira home to the boarding room. The boss' son at Vira's intern? Mr Herman Sasongko's son? Wh who? Why did Vira know? Why did Vira get delivered to the man? His head started to throb.
Kosa just wants to hear Vira's voice. The voice that called to him. An angry and spoiled voice. A voice that could ease all the anxiety in his heart.
“Sa, alone,” reprimanded Mr. Hamid who was suddenly there beside him.
“Eh, Mass. Kirain is asleep first.”
“So the intention was to sleep first, but it was hard as well. Usually sleep next to the wife, dengerin ventilahnya used to be able to pules. It's alone in the room even bengong.”
The wide laughing. Often he heard jokes about this kind of husband and wife relationship.
“Think who Sa? Already have a girlfriend?” ask Mr. Hamid.
“Eh yes Mas, from yesterday can not be contacted. I was worried,” said Kosa.
“Who? Your girlfriend?”
“Iya, Mas.”
“Seat. Your age is indeed again kangennya Sa. If it can be seen every day, plugged continue.”
Kosa laughs at the word blocked and honestly it is. For him, physical touch with Vira is like a opium that he is difficult to release and sometimes he wants to do more but can not.
“But there's a trick Sa, let the chick remember we keep going. Don't be too possessive. Do not be much nudet especially if dating the same college children. What boy is your boyfriend?”
“Mas-class sister, both Political children,” answered Kosa.
“Wiih let alone the Political girl Sa, FISIP's son, do not mess with them. They love freedom, don't like being restrained, and always feel right. They learn gender, emancipation, whatever that is.”
“Koq Mas Hamid can know that?”
“My wife is a child of FISIP as well, even a classmate,” said Pak Hamid innocent.
Sin laughs out loud. He remembered the memories with Vira that showed all that and made him smile.
“Just relax Sa, you just split a week. Must be patient training. I was in college in Japan, my wife went to a master's degree in the UK as well. Separate two years, they only fit for vacation and expensive fare,” recalled Mr. Hamid considering his past.
“Doctoral lecture, split also Mas?” ask Kosa.
“Nah, it's Sa. Salute me to my wife. He gave up his job to make me full during college in Japan. So housewives, took care of me and my kids who went to school there. Whereas he worked at a donor institution whose salary was three times that of me.”
“Waah, his wife Mas Hamid is amazing.”
“Hahaha, that was when I was dating him, quite unsettled Sa, many like the problem. Only I am sure she will be the mother of my children. So I never let go. No problem he's close to anyone's guy. His name is also a student, activist. If I was possessive, he would kill me. Who is ready to replace me must be a lot. I love the incredible trust despite the heartache of seeing him as another guy. But he finally belongs to me.”
Sin was stunned to hear it. There is a new lesson for him regarding the relationship of women and men. Trust, commitment, support, and confidence.
“You will be guided by Prof. Ibrahimian. Diligent to play to Sa's house, meet Mother Ibrahim, the story is even more exciting Sa. That's Prof. Ibrahim until thumped the same people sekampung again pe-de-ka-te,” said Mr. Hamid who then laughed off alone.
Kosa smiled. The waves of the night rolled bigger and more slammed wet the ends of both feet. The two men of different generations stared straight at the sea, letting the gusts of the night wind caress their hair and nape, replacing the caress of the woman they loved tonight.
