Chapter 32: The warmth

Wei exhaled a rough breath as Huanran burst into laughter. Yes, he understood that Huanran did not believe what he said just now.

"Stop saying nonsensical things, Wei."

"That's the truth, brother." Huanran's face turned serious.

Wei stopped behind the hut when he found the guards standing guard in front of their parents' house. "Ahead there's our parents' house, brother. Tell the bodyguards if brother is the eldest son of Goching country, they will welcome brother."

"Where are you going?" huanran asked as Wei was about to step foot.

"Return to the palace, it'll be midnight soon."

"Who gave you an exit permit?! Do you want to run away from me?!"

"No, emperor. I just want to get some fresh air and see the city at night when it's snowing. All my life I've been cooped up in the woods and couldn't get to the city at snowy nights, at least once I wanted to feel it."

Fengying's gaze softened as Wei looked at him with a full of delicacy. He exhaled a rough breath while sitting beside Wei. "I won't ban you if you ask me for permission properly. This time I'll forgive you, but if you do it again, I'll never forgive you!"

Wei was surprised to hear Fengying's words just now. The man completely changed as he pleased.

"Out there maybe my enemies are wandering around. You who come out alone may be killed if caught" he said gently, which made Wei's heart slightly warm.

Wei suddenly recalled the conversation Zhuan and his father had just had. He wanted to tell Fengying but had no proof of anything. Fengying would also be impossible to believe his words if it was without evidence.

"I'll go back to my house, get some rest."

"If the emperor won't, then I'll sleep in the emperor's residence."

"Sleep like this, I'm cold" Fengying said half in a whisper.

Wei's heart was already beating twice as fast as usual. Even though he had been in bed with Fengying, he was still nervous to death.

"I will stand guard all night beside the emperor. Zhuan, you won't be able to kill the emperor!"
