Chapter 20: The Cruel Emperor

Wei was alone in her room because Jiang and Yihan were summoned by the queen mother. His arm was already being treated and all he was doing right now was reading a book. The girl who used to read in the city library secretly, could now read as many books as she could.

What he remembered most was the moment he was caught so that he was kicked out of the library in a rude manner. Now he has his own library. Who would have thought that filthy poor girl would become empress in the future?

The door of the room opened, featuring Ruyin and Tzuran carrying trays of tea and snacks. He then put away the book read by Wei, then replaced it with a cup of tea and a small bowl of snacks.

"The empress has been reading books for too long, I fear the empress will be exhausted" Tzuran said as she caught a confused look on Wei's face.

Wei looked at Ruyin who was standing nearby like she wanted to be defended. "Ezuran is right, empress. Enjoy the tea and snacks that have been served first, after which the empress can continue reading." said Ruyin who made Wei's shoulders slumped down.

"Since when have you guys been compact like this?" Wei started to take a cup of tea and drink it.

He felt very calm after drinking the tea. He then split two snacks made of rice flour filled with beans. The round ones are filled with green beans and the star shaped ones are filled with peanuts.

Wei really enjoyed the snack during the day. He had even finished eating some time ago but still had the taste to eat the snacks that had been served.

Wei took the star-shaped cake and gave it to Ruyin and Tzuran. She does love peanuts, but she can't eat them too much due to a peanut allergy. When Wei was 12 years old, she ignored Jiang and Yihan who forbade her from eating peanuts, but Wei kept eating them. Finally Wei was rushed to the healer's house as her entire body was red-red and kept saying that her throat hurt.

Just then Jiang and Yihan thought Wei would be gone for good, they were terrified. Since then they have never eaten peanuts or planted peanuts again.

"I forgot to tell you if I'm allergic to peanuts. That's why I always split the cake served first to see the contents." said Wei who made Ruyin and Tzuran surprised.

"Please forgive us, empress. We'll be more careful!" Ruyin and Tzuran directly lowered their heads.

"Have it, don't apologize like that. Just enjoy this snack, I want to continue reading. Can't I read anymore?" Wei picked up the book she had read.

The book titled 'Be Strong' had attracted his attention since reading in the library. But Wei had absolutely no time to read it because all he had to learn was a book about this kingdom and country.

"Don't be a rock that looks strong but can be eroded by rainwater. Be a grass that continues to grow even though it has been broken many times. Ah, I love this phrase! What do you think?" wei said as she looked at Ruyin and Tzuran after she read what was written on the page of the book.

Ruyin and Tzuran smiled then nodded their heads.

"That sentence is very good, empress. But instead of being grass, it's better to be stone." Ruyin said, which made Wei frown.

Catching the confusion on Wei's face made Ruyin sigh. "The stone will still look strong without knowing how difficult it is to withstand the raindrops that at any time make it crack. Strong is not about how to grow back when broken by circumstances, but about how to survive when it all feels difficult."

Wei confirmed Ruyin's explanation. This day is very wise in explaining things. "I see what you mean, ladyboy." Wei threw her big smile at Ruyin.

"Give respect to the emperor!" yelling eunuchs from outside the house made Wei immediately put the book under his pillow.

He was afraid that Fengying would get angry as he read books unrelated to the kingdom. After putting the book under the pillow, he immediately stood facing the door of the room followed by Ruyin and Tzuran.

"I salute the emperor." Wei lowered her head to pay respect to Fengying.

Fengying glanced at Ruyin and Tzuran as if hinting at them to come out. Ruyin and Tzuran understood, then they immediately walked out of the room with a smile on their lips. I don't know what they were thinking, they seemed to be very happy.

"What's up, emperor?" said Wei while looking at Fengying.

Without feeling pity, Fengying immediately strangled Wei's neck with both hands. Wei had absolutely no idea why Fengying was strangling him so tightly that it made it hard to breathe.

Both of Wei's eyes were already glazed over, he had attempted to remove Fengying's hand from her neck, but the man further tightened his chuckle around Wei's neck. He seemed to want to kill Wei right now.

"Ke.kena...pa..." Wei was unable to finish her words, she had difficulty breathing.

A few seconds later Fengying released both of her hands making Wei directly hold her neck while coughing. His face was pale, slowly turning red. He then looked at Fengying with a puzzled look.

"What did the emperor do to me? Does the emperor want to kill me?" wei asked which made Fengying sharpen her gaze.

"Why don't you fight back? Can't you do martial arts? Show me how you fought my enemy earlier, why you're just silent!" yengying snapped while pulling Wei's dress collar.

Wei was speechless. He thought Fengying would treat him warmly again, but the man did not let go of his cruelty. The man did not even hesitate to treat himself harshly when now he was his legal wife.

Fengying gripped Wei's chin firmly. "You're just pretending to be stupid, right? What else can you do? You can read and write when your status is only a poor slave child and you can also martial arts. Where did you learn? A lowly girl like you would never be able to learn it!" fengying's speech was like a sword that repeatedly pierced Wei's heart.

Wei closed his eyes for a moment. She was aware that her status in Fengying's eyes was only a lowly girl. All this time Fengying was being nice to her just to trick her into staying at home in the palace. After her current status as empress, Fengying displayed her true nature.

Wei's body was intrigued as Fengying pulled him to approach her. His sharp eyes pierced into Wei's eyes.

"Why are you just quiet?!" his screams blared into the entire quiet room.

Feeling no response from Wei, Fengying instantly pulled Wei's hair straight. It made Wei grimace in pain but she did not fight back at all. It was as if it received the cruel treatment Fengying gave.

"Fight me like you against my enemy! Why don't you move at all?!"

With all her might Wei tried to endure the pain in her head and neck. His scalp was like it was about to come off because Fengying was pulling him firmly.

Wei clasped Fengying's hand which pulled her hair. A single tear escaped from his eye.

"The emperor is the one who doesn't want me to fight."
