The Origin of the Name Irian

Mananamakrdi, as he is commonly called, is the youngest child of a family in Kampung Sopen, Biak Barat. Mananamakrdi fared very unlucky, his body was full of scabies and smelled bad.

This made the Mananamakrdi brothers hate him. They told him to sleep outside. Although sad, Mananamakrdi was helpless. His parents were unable to defend him.

Until one day, Mananamakrdi was expelled by his brothers because the smell of scabies was unbearable again. He stepped east. Unknowingly he was on the beach. There he met a fisherman who gave him a ride to Miokbudi Island in East Biak. On the island, Mananamakrdi established a small hut as his residence.

Mananamakrdi planted sago and made wine as his daily feed. He got it from a coconut tree that thrives around his residence. Every day Mananamakrdi tapped his water to be used as wine.

His life went well. But one day he encountered a problem. The water he tapped always ran out without a trace. “There must be a thief,” thought.

He decided to spy and catch the thief. But until nightfall, the thief did not appear. He did not despair and continued his reconnaissance until dawn. It turned out to be true, the creature that drained his blood finally appeared as well. Mananamakrdi was furious. He quickly came out of hiding and caught the creature.

“Who are you? Why did you steal my water?” his yell.

The creature thrashed, trying to escape. “Let me go. I am the Morning Star. I used to be called Sampan. Let go of me,” scream the creature.

“Enak. If you don't want me arrested, you have to help me. Heal my scabies and give me a beautiful wife,” pinta Mananamakrdi.

“Go to the beach. There is a tree tree. If you see a girl bathing, throw her with a piece of sugar. That girl will definitely be your wife,” Sampan said.

Since then every afternoon, Mananamakrdi climbs a bitanggur tree and looks out at the beach. One afternoon, he saw a beautiful girl bathing alone.

Later, word got out that Insoraki was pregnant. Meokbundi village was also in an uproar. Although urged to say who the father of the baby is, Insoraki did not confess. He really doesn't know. A few months later she gave birth to a child named Konori. During the name ceremony, Mananamakrdi was present. Suddenly, Konori pointed towards Mananamakrdi and called him, “Dad Now it is revealed who the baby's father is. Mananamakrdi and Insoraki were married.

Despite having married Insoraki, the residents of Meokbundi village remain disgusted at Mananamakrdi. They left the place, so the three of them stayed. Mananamakrdi felt sorry for his wife and son who were often humiliated because of the condition of his body. One day Mananamakrdi went to collect firewood. He ignited it and burned himself.

“My husband, what are you doing?” yelled Insoraki while crying. But the miracle happened. From behind the fawning fire, came a handsome, smooth-bodied man. It was Mananamakrdi!

Insoraki is thrilled to see her husband change. Mananamakrdi named himself Masren Koreri which means “holy man”. After that, he took his son and his wife to sail from Meokbundi village to Mandori, near Manokwari.

One foggy morning, Konori and her mother went to the beach. As the sun grew higher, the fog disappeared. Seen by Konori and her mother a very beautiful sight. Green hilly land with a blue sky.

Konori yells out loud, “Irian Irian means heat.

Mananamakrdi who heard the cry was confused and asked, “What do you mean my son? This is the land of your ancestors.”

Insoraki replied, “Conori means that the heat of the morning Sun has opened our eyes to the beautiful land.” Mananamakrdi smiled and rubbed his son's hair.

Since then, the area has been named Irian. The view in Irian is beautiful. Sandy beaches and green hills stretch as far as the eye can see. This is the advantages and ri of the Irian that we must take care of
