There was a man in the land of Pasundan in the past. Si Kabayan his name. He is a lazy man but has a lot of sense. A lot of his sense even though his mind is often used to support his laziness. The Kabayan has married. Nyi Iteung his wife's name.
One day Si Kabayan was told by his father-in-law to take the rice-field snails. The Kabayan did it lazily. Upon arrival in the rice field, he did not immediately take the many rice-field snails found in the rice field, but just sat in the rice field.
Long awaited not to return, Si Kabayan's in-laws followed to the rice field. Climb up he found Si Kabayan just sitting on a rice field. “Kabayan! What the hell are you doing? Why do you not immediately go down to the fields and take the keys (Snails)?”
“Ecclesiastes (Father), I was afraid to go down to the rice fields because the rice fields are very deep. Look, Bah, so deep is this rice field that the sky is visible in it,” Si Kabayan replied.
Si Kabayan's in-laws became furious. Driven Si Kabayan's body until his son-in-law fell into the rice field.
Si Kabayan only smiled to himself as if he was innocent. “It turns out this rice field is shallow huh, Bah?” he said with a smile that sucks him. He then took the snails of rice fields that are widely found in the rice field.
On another day Si Kabayan's in-laws told Si Kabayan to pick ripe jackfruit. The jackfruit tree grew on the riverbank and its trunk jutted over the river. The Kabayan is lazy to do it. Only after her in-laws looked angry did Si Kabayan finally comply. He climbed up the tree trunk. A fruit that has been cooked. Honey, the jackfruit fell into the river. Si Kabayan did not rush down to the river to pick up the fallen jackfruit. Let the jackfruit drift away.
Si Kabayan's in-laws were astonished to see Si Kabayan coming home without bringing any jackfruit. “What happened?” he asked with an irritated face. “Which jackfruit I ordered to pick?”
With a plain face as if without sin, the Kabayan menukas, “Lho? Didn't that jackfruit I ask you to walk first? Has the jackfruit not arrived yet?”
“How do you mean, Kabayan?”
“When I picked, the jackfruit fell into the river. Apparently he wanted to walk alone. So I let him walk and told him to come home soon. I warned him to immediately turn to this house. You old jackfruit don't know yourself, don't obey my orders either!”
“Ah, that's just your excuse to make it up, Kabayan!” si Kabayan's in-laws grumbled. “Say that you are lazy to bring the jackfruit home!”
Si Kabayan only laughed despite being scolded by his father-in-law.
At another time Si Kabayan's in-laws invited his lazy, stupid son-in-law to pick koro nuts in the garden. They brought sacks to place the koro beans they picked. Just a few koro nuts he picked, Si Kabayan has been lazy to continue it. The sleepy Kabayan. He also slept in a sack.
When Azan Dhuhur was heard, Si Kabayan's in-laws finished his work. He was very astonished to not find the Kabayan with him. “Basic slackers!” his gerrick. “He must have gone home first because he was lazy to carry a sack containing heavy koro nuts!”
Si Kabayan's in-laws were forced to carry the sack containing Si Kabayan back home. How surprised he was when he found out the contents of the sack he carried were not koro beans, but the Kabayan!
“This sack is not for humans but for koro nuts!” scolding Si Kabayan's in-laws after knowing Si Kabayan was the one he shouldered until he arrived home.
The next day Si Kabayan's in-laws again invited his son-in-law to the garden again to pick koro nuts. Si Kabayan's in-laws were still irritated by yesterday's incident. He wanted to take revenge on Si Kabayan. When Si Kabayan was picking koro nuts, Si Kabayan secretly went into the sack and slept. He wants the Kabayan to take him home as he did yesterday
Climb up Si Kabayan's in-laws found himself dragged by Si Kabayan. He also shouted from inside the sack, “Kabayan! It's Abah! Do not drag Abah like this!”
However, Si Kabayan still dragged the sack containing his father-in-law until he arrived home. He said while dragging, “This sack is for koro nut place, not for human.”
Because of that incident Si Kabayan's in-laws were very angry with Si Kabayan. He silenced Si Kabayan. Not want to invite him to talk and even throw a face if Si Kabayan greet or invite him to talk. He looks so hateful to his lazy son-in-law for so many reasons.
The Kabayan realized his in-laws' hatred for him. He felt bad to be treated that way. He was looking for a way for his parents-in-law to no longer hate him. Found it that way. He asked his wife about her real name.
“Knowing the real name of the in-law is taboo, Akang!” nyi Iteung warned. “Don't Akang already know this problem?”
The Kabayan tried to persuade. He called if he wanted to pray for his father-in-law to live a long life, always healthy, cheap fortune, and far from all dangers. “If I do not know Abah's name, what if my prayers are not addressed to Abah and instead addressed to others?”
Nyi Iteung was finally willing to tell if her husband had promised not to spread the secret, she said, “The real name of Abah is Ki Nolednad. Remember, never mention Abah's name to anyone!”
After knowing the name of his father-in-law, Si Kabayan then look for water enau that is still thickening. He took a lot of cotton in large quantities. The Kabayan headed to the bottom, where his father-in-law used to bathe. He then soaked his entire body with thick enau water and put the kapok all over his body. The Kabayan then climbed a tree and sat on a tree branch waiting for his father-in-law to bathe.
When his father-in-law was engrossed in bathing, Si Kabayan then exclaimed with a voice he made to sound heavier, “Nolednad! Nolednad!”
Si Kabayan's in-laws were very surprised to hear his name being called. Instantly he looked at the source of the caller's voice, he was more surprised when he saw there was a white creature that was very creepy in his view. “Whose crank ...thou is it?” tanyanya.
“Nolednad, I am the Grandfather of this bottom.” Si Kabayan said. “I warn you Nolednad, let you love Kabayan because he is my favorite grandson. Don't you dare waste it. Take good care of him. Urus sandang and its food. If you do not do this message, you will not be saved!”
Si Kabayan in-laws are very afraid to hear the words ‘Kakek waiter lubuk’ it.He also promised to carry out the message ‘Kakek waiting lubuk’ it.
Since then Si Kabayan's in-laws no longer hate Si Kabayan. He loved his daughter-in-law. Sufficient needs of clothing and food Si Kabayan. In fact, he also made a house, although small, for the residence of his daughter-in-law.
After getting very good treatment from her in-laws, Si Kabayan was also aware of her bad attitude during that time. He also changed his attitude and behavior. He is no longer lazy to work. He also worked as a laborer. His life with his wife improved which made his wife more affectionate to him. Si Kabayan also grew fond of Nyi Iteung as unfortunately to his in-laws who remained well treated towards him. Her in-laws still think Si Kabayan as the grandson of ‘Kakek waiting lubuk’. Ki Nolednad is very afraid to antagonize or waste Si Kabayan for fear of not surviving his life as ordered ‘Kakek waiting lubuk’!
The moral of the Si Kabayan Fairy Tale Group – Sundanese Folklore (West Java) is that laziness will only harm itself. Therefore, we should avoid laziness because it will only bring losses in the future.
