CURTAINS OF THE PAST

CURTAINS OF THE PAST
GHALI IS MY SISTER

Toni drove her car at a moderate speed, but there was no sound between them at all. For a moment, his long fingers moved fiddling with the head of the car and tuning the song to break the awkward atmosphere between them.

Groove after sound broke the quiet atmosphere, the head of Iffahpun looks nodding to follow the tone of music tuned Toni.

"You like it?." Toni relented, she tried to start a conversation between them.

"The song is good, meaningful, and does not melow either. I like sir..." Answer it formally.

"I'm not too old, can you just call me by name if I'm outside the office like this?. Don't you know my name?." Toni said a little.

"Sorry sir, uh...

"Sorry sir, I really feel bad." Saut Iffah with a bow.

"All right, it's up to you..." Reply Toni indifferently.

"Sir..."

"No need to talk to me outside the office if you call me father." Cut Toni with his cake.

"Butii." Iffah was completely misbehaved by Toni's way of reacting.

"I think you understand enough." Again, Toni increasingly put on a face ketus but not the least turn towards Iffah. He continued as if he was focusing on driving his car.

"Alright, ANTONI..." Iffah started with a trembling voice. "I want to say thank you, if there wasn't you I wouldn't know what would have happened to me earlier." Iffah seemed to reminisce about the incident he almost got hit by a sedan this afternoon.

"No problem, next time if crossing it look around first. Me or no one will always be able to keep saving you." Toni is cold. Iffah just looked down to justify Toni's words.

"Where is the intersection, where does your house lead?." Ask Tony without looking.

"Oh, right." Answer the Iffah briefly.

"Have your husband come home?." Toni's question seemed to confirm his unanswered mistake.

Iffah did not grieve him, he was just trying to hide his annoyance that was clearly painted on his face at that time. "Well, that's my house sir." Point it to a family rented house that looks minimalist and so cool.

Toni turned her steering in the direction Iffah pointed.

It looks like Ghali has gone home, why hasn't he put his bike in? is he worried about me now? ~ Various questions popping up in the mind of Iffah. His guilt towards Ghali, made him look riled up.

"Are you afraid your husband will get angry?." Toni observes the unease in Iffah's face through the rearview above her front. Iffah just turned to him without answering.

"No need sir," intercept Iffah quickly. "I mean, Antoni. It's too late, you go home."

"I feel myself irresponsible if I don't share the truth with your husband, so please, don't prevent my good intentions." Pinta Toni with a look that is still as cold.

"Alright, I'm down." Iffah finally complied.

Not only did Iffah get into the minimalist house, Ghali had looked out to meet him by grasping the keys of his sports bike parked irregularly on the porch of the house.

"Assalamu'alaikum's chat..." Iffah said to Ghali who was slightly stunned.

"Wa'alaikumussalam, brother Iffah?." Saut Ghali began to sparkle. "Oh my God, brother where have you been? Sister's number was also inactive since then, Ghali was worried..." He said honestly, looking at it from his dull face.

"Sister?." Dahi Toni shriveled to hear the man she thought Iffah's husband called the girl a sister.

"Yes right, if my husband you are referring to is Ghali, then you are wrong. This Ghali is my sister." Iffah surprised Toni. "And besides, I've never been married, sir." Ghali turned his head quickly towards Iffah after hearing his last statement.

"Oh sorry, but who's Arjuna?." Toni increasingly does not want to lose the opportunity to question the status of the girl who makes her constantly pounding if she meets. While Ghali turned to her in tension.

"A...?" Iffah also looks confused by Toni's question. "Who else is Arjuna?."

"Sorry sir, my brother must be exhausted. You better just go home." Ghali tries to make her brother forget Toni's question about who Arjuna is.

"All right, I'm sorry. Assalamu'alaikum..." Pamit Toni's.

"Wa'alaikumussalam..." Saut them almost simultaneously.

Ghali asked Iffah to enter their home immediately. And so did Toni, she was about to leave the porch of Iffah's house to get back into her car. Just a few steps, Toni's legs stopped. For some reason, so great was his desire to look back. And the same thing Iffah did, she stopped her steps and turned her head back towards Toni.

For a moment, there was a fight between them before Ghali gently pulled his shoulder again.
