Chapter thirty four
“Did I just say straight on this road as far as 10 kilometers?“ ask Brian.
Detective Keiko who was driving glanced at Brian through the rearview mirror and answered Brian's question, “You said that earlier.“
“It looks like my blood sugar plummeted. Ah, I just remembered that I haven't eaten anything since getting out of prison. I want to eat something to restore my blood sugar,” Brian said.
“Sorry. Can't,” replied detective Egan.
“If my blood sugar is this high I cannot think well detective,” complained Brian.
“Did you not hear what I said earlier. There can't eat anything before we get to where your first victim is,” detective Egan repeated his statement.
“I'm not sure, whether this is the right way or should we turn in front of it and take the other way,” said Brian pretended to forget.
Seeing Brian's efforts are very hard so the two detectives agreed to cover for a moment trying to find a store that sells fast food that foam they gave to Brian.
They decided not to bring Brian to any restaurant because of course the uniforms and accessories worn by Brian would invite excitement in the community.
Detective Keiko handed Brian a hot dog with both hands cuffed and sitting in the back seat of the car.
“Quick finish your meal and take us to the place of your first victim,” detective Keiko said before finally closing the car door.
Brian smiled and immediately was a hot dog in his hand even though with some difficulty but he did not mind it at all.
With a glass filled with coffee, detective Keiko approached her partner who was sitting in front of the store while enjoying his order of iced coffee.
“We really need this,” said detective Egan while lifting a paper glass containing his iced coffee.
“When we used to do missions like this but why does it feel so much heavier this time!?“ detective Keiko who is now sitting next to his partner then sipped his iced coffee.
“Lo want to know why?“ ask detective Egan.
“Why?“ detective Keiko asked again as she leaned her body towards her partner.
“Because we are not only dealing with a hit man but also a psychopath,” Detective Egan replied.
“Iya. I also feel like he is playing with our emotions. He flattered me but then dropped me with his piercing words,” chimps detective Keiko.
“Then from that we feel exhausted not physically but mentally we,” continued detective Egan.
The two detectives then leaned their backs onto the back of the chair and went back to enjoying the iced coffee in their hands.
The eyes of the two detectives both looked at the blue sky that was so bright today even without a single cloud decorating.
“What was Brian saying was true?“ ask detective Keiko who seemed to have held herself back earlier to ask.
Detective Egan was not really surprised to hear the question from his partner, he actually now noticed Brian who was enjoying his lunch very quietly in the car.
“If even the story is true, will it help lo?“ ask detective Egan in a low tone.
“Not, that's not what I mean.. “ reply detective Keiko felt clumsy as well as curious.
“Name Yvone. He was someone I met while still in high school. He also became my support system until I finally managed to become a police officer after one failed.“
Detective Egan begins the story and turns his gaze away from Brian back to clear skies.
“Gue promised that even though he was a member of the police he will always be my priority, until that day. Because according to rumors that anyone who can catch the robber will get a chance to be a detective, my main focus will be to move,” continued detective Egan.
“Lo ignore Yvone?!“ detective Keiko said.
“Some days before he said he would hold my one-year celebration as a police officer so cheerfully, I also promised to come but right on the day we planned the mission was run,” reply detective Egan with a flat tone.
“Lantas what exactly happened to Yvone?“ ask detective Keiko.
“That night, Yvone was still waiting for me in the park where we agreed to meet and prepare a small cake. That night there was another robbery across the park and Yvone accidentally witnessed it. Because the robber did not want any eyewitnesses, Yvone was killed,” detective closed his eyes as if he did not want to remember the events of that night that felt back to hurt his heart.
Detective Keiko squeezes his partner's right hand trying to appease detective Egan.
“It looks like Brian has been doing surveillance on lo,”, detective Keiko said.
“Iya, that is the thing I am worried about,” replied detective Egan.
“As you said, he toyed with your psychology and I think this is dangerous,” continued detective Keiko.
“Lo is right, I am also worried that Brian will also open your old wounds and make us equally unable to concentrate,” said detective Egan.
“How about we go back to the office and take Brian back to jail!?“ detective Keiko proposes.
“Gue follow whatever you think is good,” reply detective Egan.
Detective Keiko smiled with relief as her famously stubborn partner very easily complied.
“Ya already, then I report first to Mr. Brox,” continued detective Keiko while taking his phone from inside his blazer suit.
Detective Keiko checks his phone and it turns out that the power in his phone is running out and most likely he can't use it to make phone calls.
“Gue can pinjem mobile lo?“ ask detective Keiko.
Detective Egan takes the phone out of his pants and shows a black screen to his press which means that he is also running out of power.
Then detective Keiko walks into the store to enlist the help of the store employee to charge her phone.
Detective Egan, who was still waiting in front of the store, took the keys to the car that was still lying on the table and walked towards the car.
He then gets into the car and blames the car engine and takes away the car with Brian in it who smiles smugly as if winning a race.
Detective Keiko, who realizes that her partner is leaving with a criminal, tries to get out of the store as quickly as possible, but she fails.
Detective Keiko went back into the store and contacted Mr. Brox with a newly charged cell phone.
