Right at eight in the night, Abby was struggling with dozens of neatly arranged gift parcels on the family room table. Anggara's residence has returned empty, peaceful and orderly after half a day is used to celebrate Abby's birthday.
In fact, he did not have many friends or acquaintances. But the gift that came was enough to surprise him, perhaps from the acquaintance of Juna or Gara. Because according to what he heard, the two people had many old acquaintances.
Actually, he was not too curious about the contents of the gift. But because many people came to congratulate him and give him good prayers on his birthday, Abby wanted to appreciate their gift.
His hand grabbed the small-sized gift in light blue, then opened it carefully. There is a hair tie with a simple design there. Instead of taking it or trying it, Abby is more interested in a small piece of paper attached to it.
I'm confused as to what I want to give you because you already have everything. But I have seen you several times in distress when eating because of the bangs of your hair that always decompose forward. Please wear that cheap thing once in a while.
I was out of town. So I can't come to see you when I'm sick, nor can I attend your brother's invitation.
Happy birthday, Abby, I hope that what you want will be achieved soon. Also, may health always be with you.
Your friend,
Hawks.
Abby smiled after she finished reading it. How many days had he and the Eagle not met in person? they just exchanged messages.
The woman took a hair tie that was still in the box, then wore it at the count of two. Her long hair that had been broken, was now fused in one bond. Shows his white and clean neck. Abby nodded, quite happy that it was useful sooner than she thought.
"You're smiling just because you got a hairband that costs the equivalent of a pack of candy?" a voice Abby was very familiar with was airing there.
"Sister."
Juna looks charming in his casual clothes. The man seemed to have just finished cleaning himself, his hair looking a bit wet and fresh.
"Somehow I'd rather you scrape your hair than be tied up like this." Juna commented after sitting next to his sister. His long fingers took a pinch of Abby's hair that had become one, then stroked it gently. "And it looks like Gara will agree with me." Continue with a slower voice.
A confused Abby just glanced at him quietly, but said nothing. The female Netra turned to the thing Juna was carrying. "What's that?"
Juna followed the eyes of his sister and immediately remembered his goal of approaching Abby. "Oh, this is for you."
"Forku?"
The man nodded.
"Is this a birthday present?" ask Abby again.
This time Juna shook his head while chuckling. "The gift for you I've kept in your room. It's just a photo. But I think you'll like it."
Abby opened the beautiful paper that wrapped the thing. And immediately stunned when he saw a portrait of a family there. There are fathers, mothers, and two children of different sexes.
"That's an old photo, so I fixed it to have better image quality." Juna stared at the photo, "Papa and Mama look young, they are so charming. Didn't you?"
Abby only muttered a partial answer. But his eyes are not separated from the faces that are there, his fingers also rubbed the surface of the photo.
The woman looked calm for a moment, until it suddenly stiffened just because her gaze fell on the figure of the little girl sitting on Juliana's lap. For a long time Abby was glued to the complex look of her face.
"You were so adorable." Juna commented when he realized that Abby was so fixated on the girl in the photo. No matter if his words even make the brother in the fog.
With a slightly quivering voice, Abby asked. "This.me?"
A frown was seen on the man's mucous forehead, astonished that Abby could not recognize her own face as a child. "Yes, of course you. I have no other sisters besides you." Answer Juna.
Abby was unable to respond for a moment. The truth he heard left him at a loss for words. His eyes were still fixed on the face of the girl who turned out to be him.
"Why are you alone? not joining the others?"
"They're noisy."
"Is there good food in it?"
"Candy, I like candy."
"What's your name?"
"I don't know."
"It must be hard for Brother."
"The necklace's bobble will fade with time."
"What?"
How could two similar figures meet and face each other in different shapes and ages?
Abby's going crazy.
. . .
"Are you sure Abby would accept such a cheap gift?"
The eagle looked at Danu who had just joined him on the cot, right in front of the old traditional style house which is now one of his favorite places.
While beside them, there is a chain of buildings with a larger size than the old house. The house they were making at Danu's request. I don't know for whom the old man built a simple house in the middle of the forest, which is quite far from the local settlement.
"Isn't that your choice? why ask Grandpa? Grandpa just gave it away." Answer Danu calmly. He did not look tired despite having only arrived two hours ago from the capital and immediately cleaned himself up before sitting down with his grandson.
The eagle chipped slowly, "is my card too bad huh?" he asked himself.
"She must be wearing it by now."
"really? why does Grandpa look so sure?"
Danu only glanced at him for a while before replying, "that thing will be quite useful in the future."
Actually the Eagle wanted to ask for an explanation again, but when he saw Danu's face that was so serious when staring at the house building that had not been fully completed beside them, the Eagle so wanted to ask something else.
"Who was this house built for?"
Danu did not immediately reply, his old netra looked like it was looking far into the future with a complicated expression. "For someone who needs it."
Good. That was the answer the Eagle could receive. But, who is the person Danu meant? his grandfather spent a considerable amount of money on this. Although the Eagle knows that the money that Danu has is quite a lot because of the goodness of the Anggara family, but is not it too dear to build something whose benefits are still not clearly known? Danu himself already has a decent enough home in the capital - which is also a gift from Abby, although his grandfather had preferred to stay in the foundation all along.
"Do you know the umbrella term before it rains?" ask Dan suddenly.
The eagle nodded, "of course, this granddaughter of yours is smart enough, Grandpa."
Danu slightly chuckled when she heard the Eagle's pretty confident reply, "we don't know what the future holds. It could be that what we have right now will just disappear later." Danu stared at her grandson right in the eyes, ushering in a strange air that didn't feel so pleasant in the Eagle's heart.
"A person who has been thrown away will have no place to return to."
. . .
It was a pretty cold night. Lilyana who was about to finish her job had to postpone the session home because of the presence of 'friends' that she did not expect to come. With the permission of the boss, Lilyana was given permission to sit face to face with the friend at one of the end of the customer's table. Ignoring the complaints of other colleagues because they feel the boss is rather favoritism.
Lilyana looked at the calm looking young man in front of her. He can't be wrong, this guy is one of his college friends. The two of them quite often attended the same class while Lilyana was still in the regular program. But even so, the two never had any reason to intersect or even greet each other.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" Lilyana asked directly to the point, without intending to ask for a name or just a small talk first.
But the one who was asked did not seem to want to be pursued cooperation. The young man had only been silent since then, staring at Lilyana with a look as if he was considering something.
"Mom went to jail and I'm gone a long time ago."
That one sentence was enough to make Lilyana stiffen, the look in her eyes implying confusion and misgivings. I don't know who the person in question is, but the statement itself is the most bitter fact in Lilyana's life.
In a rather hoarse voice, Lilyana said, "what.what do you mean?"
A single pull of a grin on the tip of the young man's lips carried an uncomfortable feeling in Lilyana's heart.
"To fight alone for a bite of rice. Rela swallow the pride of being a restaurant waiter for the cost of education. Wrapped in debt to hundreds of millions, also the ridicule of neighbors who never subsided." The young man kept his two elbows on the table, then continued the speech while slightly leaning towards Lilyana. "Those who have taken everything from you, should you not repay their deeds?"
