"We ended up doing nothing but relaxing all day. Thank you for taking me, Nolan."
"Once in a while spending time like this is sometimes good too." Nolan Sahut.
After dinner at the restaurant inside the club, Nolan and I went on to have some wine at the bar.
As we sat on the adjacent bench, Nolan wrapped his hands around my shoulders.
"So you feel better now?" Ask Nolan. Her eyes are so sad that they fill my heart.
"Yes, of course." I gave him a big smile.
I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart for the attention it gives me.
But, despite whatever I did all day, why do I still feel uneasy.
It really frustrates me. I can't even enjoy my time with Nolan...
"Julia." Nolan suddenly looked serious, and shook my shoulders. "I thought I told you not to hide anything."
"Huh ...?" I was shocked from my daydream and found Nolan looking at me with a frown.
"Don't give me a fake smile. I don't like that." His gaze saw through my hidden anxiety.
"sorry. I didn't mean to ..." Hearing his words I could only bow.
"Don't apologize." He spoke forcefully, and sighed a little. Then he whispered in a more friendly tone. "If you want to apologize, at least tell me what's wrong. What are you worried about?"
Yes ... Nolan can see everything.
I realized that I had failed to hide my feelings. Nolan clearly saw all this unrelenting unease that I had been trying to hide all along.
"You're right. I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about it. I don't think I can express it well, but ... I'm really nervous right now. Be here, next to you."
"What?" Nolan seemed surprised by what I said. His face seemed to not believe that I would say that to him.
"I feel like I don't deserve to be by your side."
Partly because, it seemed like she wouldn't possibly plan on marrying me at all, but I couldn't say that part.
"Is that what bothers you?" Nolan clicked his tongue with a slight reproach. "I don't seem to understand you at all. And you don't understand me either."
"Noland ..." I felt angry at his words, but I wasn't sure what to say.
Just then, Nolan's phone rang, breaking such an awkward silence.
"Yes, it's me. What'sthat?" Nolan paused for a moment to listen to the words of the person across the phone. "understand. I'll be there soon." He hung up the phone and looked at me.
"That's my secretary. I have to get back to the office now. I'll take you home first."
"No, it's okay." I'm shaking. "I still want to drink a little more. I'll call a taxi when I get home. Don't worry about me. You just go to work, Nolan."
"okay." Nolan immediately turned around leaving me sitting alone in the bar stool. The cold and hollow feeling he left behind really pierced my heart.
"May your journey be safe." I said good-bye, but either Nolan could hear it or not because when I said it he was already on the doorstep.
This was the first time I felt like drinking strong alcohol. And being with Nolan now is going to be tough.
Argh... I just feel unsettled. I don't know what's going to happen next. And I'm afraid I can't do anything about it.
If this keeps up, I think maybe I might not deserve to be on Nolan's side.
Why am I so pathetic?
"May I sit next to you?" A voice suddenly broke my daydream.
"U-umm... Who?" Feeling confused when I heard the sudden sound, I raised my head and turned my head. My eyes widened in surprise, it turned out that the person who asked me to speak was...
"Bu-are you not Ike Barnes, the Impartial Officer...?" Tanyaku.
"Hey, you remember my name, so good!" Said Ike who then immediately replaced Nolan's former seat without waiting for me to welcome before.
"Why are you here?" I'm spontaneous.
"It's just a coincidence. Even though it seems like you won't believe me." Ike's relaxed.
"You always press me. Are you always gonna talk like this?" My toot.
"Well... It's not good, but it's okay. Only when we're both. I'm sure our privacy will be safe at this riding club. After all this is Mr. Zarek's favorite equestrian club." Ike Sahut.
"Nolan said that in court was the first time he met you. But it seems you already consider him your rival." My insinuation.
I was just wondering how he knew what Nolan liked, and how he got here.
"Well, he's a famous lawyer so there's no way I'm just paying a little attention to him." Ike lightly replied to my innuendo.
"And above all, he had a beautiful woman as his lover!" His words made me silent.
"Didn't you know? All of my colleagues, fellow Imparsial Officers, have been cornered with all of his arguments while at the trial."
"Is that why you're handling the case this time?" My toot.
"No, think back. I've sued you before he even agreed to defend you, haven't I?"
"Correct..." I sighed a little. "You're suing me because maybe you think that my mistake was bad enough that you can't just let it go."
"Are you happy talking to someone like me?" I was full of sarcasm.
"Yes, I'm happy." He shrugged his shoulders. "Especially because I'm a little interested in you."
"Pulls me?" Ask wonder.
"Actually we have something in common." Ike's words confused me even more.
"I don't think it's like that." I stared deeply at Ike.
She was full of confidence, while I was so opposite of her nature.
"really? Ever since I first saw the petition filed by Professor Wright's ex-wife, I've felt like you and I were alike, Julia Darwin. So, I feel that I've been destined to take your case."
Why does this confidence Ike has irritate me even more?
"Destiny? This meeting of ours, you call destiny? Don't you think I've committed a crime?"
"Yes, I feel like your case is mine. I might as well do it someday..." He laughed with a scornful tone.
"Your case is the type of case that we as Impartial Officers would feel called upon."
"I really don't understand what you're saying." I looked at him more sharply.
Maybe I'm just a weird person to him? He's an Impartial Officer and also considers me to have committed a crime...
And here I'm trying to reveal that I'm innocent.
I have to keep my guard up, and to be honest I shouldn't talk to him like this at all.
But, he made me curious. I don't know why I felt that he seemed to have made me his target from the start.
