"Aren't you and Julia together for a while now? Isn't it time?" Cody asked as if voicing the contents of my heart that had stuck in my mind.
"No, we're fine." Nolan glanced at me, then spoke firmly.
If she thinks we're doing fine as usual, it means she's not willing to think about getting married yet.
I don't think he's sure he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.
Suddenly I got the urge to attack him with sarcasm. I let out a breath.
"After all, we're still busy with our work." I tried to be ordinary, to hide how much I was shaken by Nolan's words.
"I understand. Julia still wants to pursue more awards, so you still can't think about marriage, right? Which means, no one knows what the future holds, so maybe I still have a chance?" Cody tried to tease Nolan again.
"Huss, Cody, don't joke like that." I reprimanded.
"Aww, it hurts if you directly ignore it as a joke like that. You should be confused!" Cody put on a sulky look.
"I'm his partner, so I think I'm the best fit for him in terms of his work and personal life." Paul also followed.
"I'm his partner too." Timo said that made me laugh at what they were sharing.
But it made me even more aware of Nolan.
As Cody said, I don't know what will happen in the future.
Is it okay for Nolan to let our future stay open like that?
“Nolan is very jealous, but he prefers to act like nothing happened. He's just acting." Joy furrowed her brows.
I wonder if I've made Joy worry about me?
Even though we were in a stable relationship, to be told she wasn't thinking about marriage at all ... Could it be that such a thing did not bother them too much, men?
"Julia is quite popular, so if you say such things, she will be kidnapped by others." Joy put her arm around my shoulder, as if she was trying to comfort me.
"I don't have time to think about unfounded fears."
Nolan didn't seem to care at all, as usual.
"Yes, you're a genius lawyer, and you have a lot of interest in women, so I don't think marriage is a question for you anymore." Joy said, supporting my feelings, and Nolan nodded.
It seems like she doesn't pay attention to what Joy and I do, we women care about.
“Yes, that's right. That's my job." It seems Nolan does not understand at all what Joy means.
"I also have a job, you know." I murmured, trying to cover up his words. I don't want to listen to him anymore.
I don't want to make this more painful for myself, nor do I want to question his feelings.
I don't want to think that Nolan isn't seriously chasing me, to the point where he's not even considering our future.
I wanted to believe that he was just busy with work, and had no time to think about the future.
"Your job is pretty tough, too, Julia? After all, you study living things. Sometimes you don't sleep all night." Joy patted me on the shoulder as if giving me sympathy.
"Yes, you're right. I can easily forget the time when I concentrated on my work." I'm glad Joy changed the subject. From there, the topic shifted from about marriage.
“Learnest. You turned out to be a popular researcher, yeah." Joy.
"A researcher can be called popular?" I'm confused.
"If you start writing or get a college teaching job, you won't even have time to sleep." Paul nodded in agreement.
"Don't push yourself too much." Said Cody.
"Yes, you can't do anything if you're exhausted." Miguel also advised.
"Yes I know. I have to take care of my health too. Because from now on it's a turning point in my career." I said give them their advice.
"If you fall, I'll force you to be better." Nolan put his hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you, Nolan."
Is he watching me now...?
"You never said what you meant, Nolan. If you're worried about him, be honest about it." Joy grumbled at Nolan's attitude.
"I don't have to say that in front of you." Nolan said indifferently.
"So you say it when you're alone together?" Joy chuckles.
"I also don't need to express it in words." Nolan hugged my shoulder tightly. Then he kissed my hair, making me flutter
Cody whistled and teased the two of us.
"Huss, stop joking." Paul scolds Cody.
"He may not say what he means, but his love is deep." Miguel nodded as if agreeing with Nolan's attitude.
Nolan loves me. Even if he hasn't thought about marriage. Feeling the warmth of his touch could already sweep away all the doubts within my chest

Day after party ...
Last night we continued the party until late at night. Nolan and I drank a lot of wine. Nolan drinks a lot because he loves Wine, and can comfortably do it because we celebrate it at Lilac Court. While I drank a lot to divert all the anxiety that had filled my mind. I don't want to think about it anymore, if I can for a moment I want to forget about it.
Nolan and I returned to the room drunk, and we fell asleep...
The next morning I woke up with great difficulty because there was an important meeting in the office today. Despite the loud sound of alarm, Nolan remained sound asleep. Not wanting to disturb his sleep, I prepared quickly, and went to the office in a taxi.
When I got back from the office and stopped by the cafe, Josh came up to me with a worried look. I don't know what makes it that way
"Welcome back, Julia. Looks like you received some important letters, so you better check them out." Josh gave me a brown envelope.
"Thank you, Josh. I wonder what that is about? I have no leads at all..." I tilted my head in confusion, and picked up the envelope. I've never received a letter before. If it was my colleagues who sent it, they would definitely use the email directly to contact me. Meanwhile, if my father wanted to ask me the news, he would have called me right away. So it's clear all those letters weren't from my colleagues or my father because he was the only relative I had.
"What's this?" When I saw who sent it, I instinctively held my breath.
"This is a notice letter from the courthouse ... for me ?!" The letter signified the end of my happy days, and the beginning of my troubles.
