A few days later...
"Darwinian. Any second?" Timo asked as I was examining the extracted blood sample.
"What's wrong? I was just gonna take these results to the lab." My answer.
"Can you take this video disc to Kaleido TV station when it's finished?" Timo placed an envelope next to the microscope I was using.
The envelope was bulging, barely large enough to contain its contents.
"I'll be out for lunch soon, so I don't mind ... But why Kaleido TV?" My toot.
I mean, they only broadcast national television shows ...
"They asked for intro videos to be used on agencies specifically about wild animals." Answer Timo.
"They're gonna talk about us on TV? That's amazing!" I was so excited when I heard the news.
Even if only one person supported our work with the Kaleido leopard, it would be a great victory!
And if you think about it again, the whole country might be watching the program too!
"Yes. Usually I'll send it myself but something pops up so I can't get out." Timo.
"Give it to me!"
I'm so glad we're performing on TV, let alone it's a big station!
After Timo gave me the director's business card and I changed clothes, and rushed to the TV station.
"Thank you for bringing the tape so far." Said the Program Director at Kaleido TV.
"Together." I handed the disc to the director after he came and greeted me at the reception desk.
And he also told me what day it was going to air! I have to get the TV set up to record it!
With the completion of this task, I turned to return to the institute.
"Don't you think you put too much pressure on the business?" I glanced up, hearing a flat, sarcastic voice I knew so well.
This sound is...?!
Above me was a large monitor with a very familiar face plastered on it.
It's Nolan!
"If you keep complaining about rights and democracy, the problem will never be solved. If people have time to blame others, they should spend it on improving their skills and creating value for themselves." Nolan appeared to be arguing with someone at the event.
"Mr Nolan Junior, you don't seem to understand the difficulties of the unemployed. Without money, how can one get the necessary skills for a job?" Reply to a guest star.
"It's not a matter of money holding people back. Perhaps they are too busy blaming the government and business for fixing themselves from within. You and everyone who shares your opinion are what hold them back from what they need to succeed." Nolan.
"Looky! You can be here just because you're standing on your father's shoulders!" The guest star called out.
“Your opinion means nothing to me. The only thing that matters is making my clients happy." Nolan responded flatly.
"You're disgusting..." The guest star sneered in annoyance.
"If you can't hold a rational argument, there's no reason for me to be here." Nolan.
"Let's pause the commercial for a bit and let the heat go down." A female announcer asked for a break to restore the atmosphere of her show program.
Well, I didn't expect to suddenly hear Nolan! So he's having a debate on TV too?
I know this is a contentious program, but the other guy seems to be very angry. I hope it goes well...
I was waiting for the show to come back, but apparently it wasn't a live broadcast.
The monitor switched to airing different programs on Kaleido TV.
Looks like they just played a sample of their program on the monitor.
If only I could hear the rest of their debate. But if you think about it again, maybe you shouldn't.
I thought as I glanced back at the big screen.
"Come, Nolan. It'll be fun."
Huh uh?!
The young and sweet voice that called out a familiar name caught my attention.
No way! This is the real Nolan now!
Nolan walked steadily out of the elevator that had just opened on the same floor as me.
A beautiful, long-haired woman leaned seductively on him.
The woman rushed after Nolan as she walked straight towards me.
I quickly jumped behind the shelter on a nearby houseplant.
What am I hiding for?! It doesn't matter if he sees me!
"Not tonight. I have a plan." Nolan refused.
"But you always say that! I won't let you use that excuse tonight!" The woman insisted.
"It's against my policy to be seen with women after hours in public." Nolan said something that was even hard for me to believe.
Didn't the two of us just go to the bar together?
"So how about we go for a walk alone, if you know what I mean?" Lowering her voice, the woman made a suggestive comment with a sexy grin.
"I have important business with you. You're not going to disappoint a girl, are you?" The woman continued.
"If it's about work, just take it to the office." Nolan rejected his temptation and ended the conversation with an indifferent smile.
"What ... Nolan! Get back here!" The woman screamed, looking offended.
Now is the worst time if I get to be seen, but he's coming right at me!
I shrank as small as possible behind the plant but Nolan spaced too close.
His eyes looked at me and he stopped.
Justjust wonderful...
"U-Um ... I came here to work. Believe me, I didn't see or hear anything ..."
What did I say?!
Without changing her expression, she looked down, right into my eyes.
"Hm ... Thank you for waiting. Come on." I was pulled by Nolan without even understanding the situation in the slightest.
Waiting?! Since when?! What the hell is going on?!
"Kolan! Who is that girl?! Who do you think I am?!" Shouted the woman. His angry voice raged at Nolan from behind.
"I only know you from the show. I don't remember ever being familiar with you. Good bye." Nolan quickly turned around and planted those words on him before rushing out of the TV station.
"H-Hey, Nolan! You don't have to pull me like this! I can walk on my own!" I protested to Nolan after we left the building and the woman was far behind.
He loosened his grip and finally let go of me.
"What are you doing here, Julia?"
"I told you, work! I'm delivering a video for the documentary about the animal!" Reply irritated.
"Will it be okay there? You said all that to someone you work with..."
"Aren't you going to have a hard time on TV if you make him angry?" I was worried, my annoyance was gone for a while.
"I don't argue because I like it. That's one part of my job."
"really?"
I guess he's on TV because he likes it ...
"Remain, TV can be a useful tool for building reputation." Nolan grumbled with a grin that disagreed.
"I'm sick of people chasing my fame without knowing anything about me."
Hm? Was he referring to the woman over there?
"It's a good thing you're here to save me. Thank you." Thank you."
"Sure, but I didn't really do anything ..." But at least I'm glad I could help him.
"If you want to go home, I can drive you by car." Nolan offered me a ride.
"No, no need. I just had my lunch break, so I'm going back to the Institute by subway alone." I refused it subtly.
"alright. Careful, Julia."
"Bye, see you later Nolan." After waving to each other and parting ways, I returned to the subway.
While walking down the street, I gently touched my arm that Nolan held before.
He really pulled me back, but it didn't even hurt a bit...
The sensation of her soft grip on my arm disappeared as I returned to work.
