Twisted Love's
Episode 35's

"Who are you? Do you know her, Julia?" Ask Paul.

"No, I don't know him."

Timo and Paul stepped forward, trying to protect me.

"Sorry, but this place is a facility for research - non-personnel people are not allowed in." Paul warned the man, looking into his eyes. But the man just laughed mockingly.

"That's right, I'm not a researcher, but I have my permission. I came here to work myself, you know."

"Working?" Paul asked astonished at the reply from the foreign man who had suddenly entered our office.

"Yep, I'm Imparsial Officer Kaleido, Ike Barnes. Just call me, Ike."

"Impartial Officer ...?"

Now that I think about it, I seem to have heard that name on a piece of news. Ummm, I guess--

"Yes, right." He watched me as I muttered, and we made eye contact.

"Hmm, so you're the girl, yeah ...?" He smiled broadly.

"I finally found you, my cute little bunny. You're so much prettier than I saw in the photo..."

"...I'm Ike. From now on we'll keep meeting, keep it sticky like glue, so you better remember my name."

"Ike Imparsial Officer?!"

"What the hell is going on here?"

All the staff in the laboratory started talking noisily.

"What happened, you say? Don't you guys know what the job of an Imparsial Officer is." Ike pointed at me.

"Julia Darwin's. You're accused of slandering Professor Wright. I'll lead your case."

So he came here because of a letter from the court ...?!

"Professor Wright ...? You mean, about Julia denying the professor's article?"

"Yes, that must be so. I think he's pretty brave about it ..." My other colleagues are starting to question what is the cause of Ike Barnes' existence here.

"You won't deny it, will you, Julia?" Ask Ike.

"Of course, I know Professor Wright's research very well. But everything I said about Professor Wright in the award-winning article is true." I said.

"so yeah... It seems you have a lot of confidence. Hm...  A brave little rabbit. It would be dangerous to be overconfident. You better remember that, rabbit." He grinned at me.

"Obviously seen in your interview, you seem overconfident. Do you really think you didn't make a mistake?" Ask Ike.

I was right at a loss for words. It is hard to refute his words.

I didn't mean to say anything wrong, but ...

When he kept pushing me like this, it worried me. Did I make a mistake ...?

Against my growing anxiety, I spoke. "I didn't mean it, but ..."

"You seriously think so?" Ask me again.

"I didn't mean to say anything wrong during my gift-giving ceremony speech. But, if somehow I have made a mistake, I will correct it. And I'll apologize." I said.

"alright. Then I'll make you apologize." He grins.

"I came here today just to say hello. I'll leave the fight for the courtroom later. Seek justice for each and everyone, just and honest, before the public eye. That's how Kaleido does it." He looked at me provocatively.

"I don't think Mr. Zarek has anything to do with this right now, do you?" He dragged Nolan's name to make fun of me, and I replied to him without thinking.

"Mr Zarek is certainly a skilled and very reliable lawyer, but-" I tried to continue my rebuttal.

"Absolutely. You can calm down because he's defending you, can't you? It must be nice to be protected by an amazing boyfriend." His words that directly cut my words clearly angered me.

Does he mean to say that he already knows about my relationship with Nolan?

Why should I accept this kind of spiteful comment from him? Why is he treating me like this?

"I have no intention of leaning on him like that one-sidedly." I tried to stay calm in the face of his cynical words.

"Is that so? So your relationship is fairer than I thought. Sorry about that. However, even though you think so, this world is filled with injustice, it only takes a short time for me to prove that you are guilty."

"We Imparsial Officers fight for those who don't have a voice and support like you, to make it fair for them." Ike gave me his card.

"The next time we meet, and it'll be in the courtroom, my little bunny." He said he turned around and walked away.

"What's? Ike Barnes came to your place of work?" Nolan was surprised.

When I returned to the apartment, I waited for Nolan to come home from work, then visited his room to tell him what happened today.

Actually, I wasn't sure what I should do, but Paul and Timo told me it would be best to discuss it with Nolan before things got worse.

"Do you know him, Nolan?" My toot.

“Yes. I have never faced him in court, but I know him well .. He's an Imparsial Officer on the rise." Nolan Sahut.

"I've heard that on the news here and there, but what kind of job is that?" I didn't grow up in Kaleido, so I asked Nolan about this job that I had never heard of before.

"This is a unique system that Kaleido has, arguably in this case this job has a similar role to the public prosecutor."

"Public Prosecutor ?! But my lawsuit is not a civil case. Why is a public prosecutor involved in this when this case is not a criminal case at all?"

"Do you know exactly what the public prosecutor is doing?" Ask Nolan.

"Was not concerned with criminal cases, they filed cases in court, and brought suspects ... I see, right?"

"To be exact, they seek to use the appropriate law against lawsuits, and supervise the operation of the court." Nolan explained.

"I never thought of anything like that."

"Most importantly, the Impartial Officer exists to make equal legal justice a reality, not just a boon. In Kaleido a variety of people live in it. And that's why everyone should be treated fairly. "

"Otherwise, problems will arise more easily, and the country will be rife with disputes. If left alone, citizens would revolt and the country would likely be split in two. "

“In order for those who cannot hire a lawyer not to give a hint of hope, they earnestly take lawsuits against people of any status, and conduct their own investigations..."

"... and, for the sake of their clients, take this matter to court to rectify the injustice that has occurred. Lawyers fight for their clients, but Impartial Officers fight for justice for everyone living in Kaleido. Even if that person is gone." With Nolan's explanation, I've already begun to understand what the role of an Imparsial Officer is like. They seem to have their own legal power that can even sue a president.
