This is the first time Ben ate four of them at one table with Giani and his two sons. His heart warmed immediately.
Ben could see how much Giani was paying attention to his two sons. Unknowingly Ben smiled gently.
"Daddy why is daddy smiling like that? Is mommy funny?" Jack suddenly nosy asked seeing his father occasionally smilingly looking at his mother.
"Ehm, daddy's just happy because now eating there's accompanying."
"Daddy always eats alone?"
"Yes, daddy's always alone."
"Then what's the point of no Uncle Ramos? Why didn't daddy take her along?"
"Uncle Ramos won't accompany daddy. That's why now there's you daddy so happy. So daddy wishes you guys would stay here."
Jack looked back at his mother. "How, Mom? Does mommy want to?"
"If you want to be here, it doesn't matter. You don't have to think about mommy. Mommy's gonna see grandpa's house tomorrow. If possible mommy would renovate grandpa's house and live there."
"I'm going with mommy" said Jarret.
"If you come with mommy, I'll come too. I don't want to be separated from my sister. Sorry, Dad."
"You can be here. Anyway mommy doesn't know how bad the damage was in Grandpa's house. You better not come with mommy."
Giani could not bear to see the face of Ben who looked disappointed to hear his two sons choose with him.
"What the hell is this, Daddy. Daddy stayed with us. How's it?"
"We should eat first. The food will be cold. After eating we talk again," said Giani. The four of them ate quietly.
After eating, Giani asked his two children to enter the room. He wanted to talk to Ben for a while about Jack and Jarret so he didn't want his two sons to hear what he was talking about later.
"Sir, I have something to talk about."
"Call me Ben, Giani. Let's talk somewhere else. You don't want Jack and Jarret to hear our talk, do you?"
Giani nodded, Ben led Giani into a room. The room is behind the painting. Giani did not find it strange if the house had many secret rooms.
"Sit down, what do you want to talk about?"
"I'm sorry before. Maybe my request is a little excessive."
"Tell me, Giani."
"Can I put Jack and Jarret here?"
"Why indeed? where are you going?"
"I want to investigate the fire case without involving anyone. I'm afraid someone is after my father's life. I'm afraid if Jack and Jarret are around me they'll get dragged into trouble."
"Where can you conclude that?"
"If you really need help don't hesitate to tell me, Giani. You're not alone, I'll be there for you and the kids from now on" Ben said. Giani just smiled.
"If you had done it 7 years ago, the story would have been different."
"I'm sorry, I've had too much consideration. However, believe me if I always watch over and take care of you even though I'm not around you."
"Why did you choose to do that? Do you not realize if they already need your existence from 7 years ago. Your role as a father figure is very much needed. However, because of your decision, they must mature prematurely. They are forced to understand something that they should not yet understand.
Conditions where they must understand if they are born different from the family in general. They must be willing to understand that from the moment they are born they have no father."
Ben swallowed his saliva roughly. He knew that he had so deeply incised the wound in Giani's mind. The stupid decisions he thought were right, but in fact the people he wanted to protect were hurt so deeply, including his children."
"I'm sorry" said Ben. He was wrong.
"That's it, it's over and I hope this time you can properly take care of them. Tomorrow morning I'm leaving" Giani said.
"You don't have to intervene on your own. Let my men investigate."
"No, I can't just shut up. I have to find out for myself what happened to my father. It's my guilt-busting."
"What if they come looking for you?"
"You should be able to give them an answer of course."
"What kind of answer?"
"Of course." Giani smiled looking at Ben's confused face.
***
The next day, Giani left completely unbeknownst to his two sons. I don't know why he had a thought if something went wrong in the first place.
Giani rides the car that Ben lent him yesterday. He left early in the morning blind. Saar Giani arrived in front of his house. His body shook violently. The corner of his eye began to shed tears. The sight before him was so stifling to his heart. Giani imagined his father was confused to seek help and finally because no one realized the fire, his poor father was burned to death.
Giani began to step closer to the building that had lived half that. He crossed the police line and went in there. His chest felt tight as he recalled the memories in the house. Memories of where he grew up and grew up there. Memories of where she spent time accompanying her mother knitting scarves for her father's Christmas gifts. It feels like everything was just yesterday passed and now Giani only sees the debris of his home building. Giani sat on the floor and sobbed.
Giani does not want to look weak in the eyes of anyone. That's why he asked Ben to look after his two sons. He doesn't want to, Ben and his kids take pity on him.
I don't know how long Giani cried in such a position that suddenly someone hugged him from behind.
Giani turned his head and found Jarret crying while hugging him. "Hey, why are you here, honey?"
"Mommy don't go alone. I'm afraid there's a bad guy who's gonna hurt mommy."
"Mommy's okay, baby, but thanks for worrying about mommy."
Giani smiled at the words of his first son. "Jawab mommy, Jarret! Why did you get here?"
"I'm hiding in the car" Jarret said.
