Chapter 26 - 26. Defectors

Noah woke up in a room in the guard building.

2 Weeks have passed since he returned from the mission and 4 days ago he underwent his third treatment.

His back was still a little sore but his mental energy had recovered. He would practice if his master did not take the runes from him out of fear that he would not focus on healing.

The worries are on target.

'Mh, my body should reach the limit of rank 1 at the end of this cycle, I wonder how much it will take. Too bad, if I have that stone, I can directly move up the rank 2 this month.'

The Blessing of Breath was conveyed by William into the inner circle so that it might be lost forever from his grasp.

He focused his mental energy to aid the healing process as he had nothing to do while eating the food left on the nearby table.

The bedroom door opened as William walked into the room with a wider-than-usual smile, he was carrying a leather bag and a large wooden box.

"Haha my dear student, good morning, I bring good news!"

He put the boxes and bags on the bed and pointed at them.

"This is the gift I got for you and I have to say that it's amazing, you won't be disappointed."

Noah wasted no time and began to open the box, His master making him curious.

Inside the box were 2 swords inside their respective scabbards, the handles were clean shiny, it seemed new.

He took one of them and finished it off, the body of the blade was black and sharp.

"They were forged specifically for you from the 2 legs of the rank 3 armored spider you defeated. It wasn't a magical weapon but it was definitely level up among normal swords."

Noah involuntarily smiled looking at his blade and swung it, he would have gotten up and tried it if not for his body still needing a break.

He sheathed his sword and looked at his bag.

An old book was inside it and when he saw the first page, his eyes widened as he could not hide the shock he felt.

He looked at his Master in disbelief.

"Is this really for me?"

William's smile expanded even more as he nodded.

"Your master is amazing, isn't he?"

He wanted to brag a little but Noah's eyes were fixed on the book as soon as he saw it nod.

William simply shook his head and waited for his disciple to finish his reading.

'Kamaitachi nails, rank 3. Martial arts were created by imitating the rank 4 magical beast Kamaitachi. Highest speed and perforation between arts of the same rank. It allows the user to cut with incredible speed and precision beyond any protection. The user can also cut objects at a certain distance from his blade and, with full mastery, he can fire wind slashes into the air. Limited to two-armed users

Noah lifted his eyes from the book.

"Kamaitachi is a ferret-like animal that runs in the wind and cuts to death unnoticed by its victims. It would suit you very well."

He took a folded sheet containing runes from his clothes and gave it to Noah.

"Next week we start competing again, I'm sure you want to test your new technique."

Noah looked at him and bowed deeply unconcerned about the pain in his back.

After finally doing something, Noah's days of recovery passed quickly.

His weekly debates with William continued but he noticed there was a problem with his new martial art: His "Breath" was not enough to express his potential.

To be exact he could only use one of his abilities twice before being drained.

"It's completely normal, you always forget how early you are in things. Normally, to use a high-level martial art you would need a dantian but you complained about only being able to use two attacks. Your biggest advantage, for now, is the improvement in your form, another thing should wait until you get a rank 2 body."

William explained.

Their sparring session had ended and Noah expressed his doubts to him.

"So, what do you think I should do, Master?"

"You can let your body grow but you don't seem to know how to stay still."

William was a little annoyed to say this.

"You can gather battle experience doing missions, I'm sure you should be fine against any kind of rank 2 magical beast."

Months pass.

Noah alternated between his usual schedule in the mansion and his journey outside to clean the nest of magical beasts.

There was a group of four-eyed wolves with specimens that reached rank 2 but they were wiped out within half a day.

A horned snake appeared around a village in the North.

His scales were hard, his body was 10 meters long and 2 large, and had poisonous fangs in his mouth. It was a ferocious beast at the peak of rank 2 and Noah had to use a rank 3 martial art to kill it after a heavy battle.

He was forced to rest for 3 days because of the fight.

However, his most troublesome opponent was the mud demon. This type of magical beast was naturally created when too much "Breath" accumulated in one place and consolidated.

"The consolidated "breath" would act as the core of a savage beast that could manipulate the surrounding terrain. It was not a powerful beast but was extremely against Noah's technique.

He had to cut it into small pieces repeatedly to find the core and destroy it while avoiding the earth spikes he created to attack it.

However, his fighting ability increased quickly from having to face different situations because he could decide faster the best way to deal with the opponent.

Today, he sat on his knees waiting for the ordinary mission that his Master would give him every month.

"This time will be different, you'll go with a group of people I personally chose."

Noah was interested.

'Because he always let me go alone, the difficulty of his mission must be higher to need the group.'

He took out a paper describing the mission from William's hands.

'The deserts of the Shosti family have invaded the village of Tasart, only the bodies of men and old men are found, they may take away young women and girls for their pleasure. Find the rebels and execute them. Warning: there were cultivators within their group.'
