Chapter 2 - 02. Dragon
Five months had passed since Noah was reborn in this world.
It was spring, or at least it seemed so for what he saw from the outside environment. The mansion he lived in resembled a rustic villa from his previous life, but it had the size of a castle and was mostly made of wood, with walls made of stone all around it.
At that moment, he was in the arms of his new mother, peering around as he walked past the mansion talking to her. Little did he know that Noah managed to understand most of what he said.
'This world language is not very difficult, also because it has a lot in common with the English in my previous world. Well, it was also thanks to Lily who never left me and kept talking to me'
These five months were spent by her mostly in the arms of her mother walking around Balvan's house, with Lily explaining the most random things to her. Thanks to that he had a general idea of his position in the family and how the house was structured.
The house was divided into 2 rings, outer and inner. The inner ring consisted of a 4-story building and it was the main family residence; the outer ring had two 2-story buildings and one 3-story building and was each inhabited by guards, servants, and others, and guest.
Right now, they were on the first floor of the guest building, which was reserved for them because she had the blood of the main family inside her, and because Lily was Rhys' beloved concubine.
Noah's father, Rhys, was the third and last son of the old patriarch of the Balvan family, Thomas. Thus, even though they did not gain access to the inner ring, they could still live a comfortable life on the outside.
"You must grow strong, little darling, the people in the inner circle will see you as an asshole and will not waste any effort to harass and bully you, especially the legitimate grandchildren and granddaughters of the patriarch"
Hearing this, Noah's mood became heavier.
'I lived a meaningless life, in a world full of compromise and now I am reborn, I was asked to endure bullying because my social status was just to be a tool for the main family to use. Looks like I'm going to live another life empty of meaning'
Lily kept talking but Noah's mind went away, trying to find the best course of action for this life.
'If I stayed here, I would probably benefit a lot, after all, the Balvan family seems to be quite wealthy. I just don't know enough about the outer environment of the mansion so I'm not sure about the possibilities the outside world has to offer'
Noah considered running away from the family. She appreciates the affection and effort of this new mother, but this feeling is far from the love she should have for parents.
"I already have a family and it's not going well. This time I did not have to go through various experiences to understand what kind of person I was so that I could always choose the things that were most suitable for me. If living in the inner circle is too difficult for the only reason being a bastard, I wouldn't mind leaving the mansion. Plus, I have 25 years of previous experience and knowledge of the more advanced world, the chances are I should have a lot.'
From the clothes of the people, the structure of the building and the state of the furniture, he could guess that this was a world without electricity, greatly lagging behind in the field of technology compared to the previous world.
'However, this may also be a disadvantage; my habits are those of the industrial society and my thoughts are those of the 21st century, he said, I don't know how people here might react to some ideas. I have to be careful.'
Sometimes thinking about his future, sometimes listening to his mother, days go by and nights get closer. Lily walked to the balcony to see the stars appear in the dark sky. Noah used this opportunity to study the surroundings outside the mansion. Outside the defensive walls, there were sheep grazing in the fields, there was a huge stone road that started from the main gate of the mansion and stretched in the distance, cutting the green fields into 2 pieces. A field that looked like corn was being cultivated on his right side and the forest was barely visible on his left in the distance.
It was a beautiful sight, one that Noah did not normally see, and now this was his new world. Then he turned his gaze to the sky, and he seemed to see darkness enveloping the reddish clouds of the setting sun. At first it was like a small dot in the distance, becoming bigger and bigger as it headed towards them. Only then did he realize that something was wrong. The darkness was not caused by the night that arrived but by the silhouette of something surging through the clouds.
It was fast and it was getting closer and closer.
At a certain point, a deafening roar rang out in the peaceful countryside. It came from a figure in the sky.
It was 7-8 meters long and had large black scaly wings, actually the scales covered his entire body.
He dived so fast that Noah could not see the time difference between his exit from the clouds and his approach to the terrain where the herd was.
Suddenly, a wall illuminated with purple and rune colors appeared on its surface. It emitted a steady but loud hum and the purple color of the walls spread out towards the countryside towards the herd.
The beast seemed distracted as it descended and tried to stop itself in midair while spreading its wings.
But his speed was too high and inevitably fell to the ground where the purple circle went, creating a huge hole.
As the purple circle touched the dragon, smoke rose from the hole and another roar, which was painful, sounded in the twilight of the day.
The dragon rose into the sky again as quickly as possible and stared at the mansion with venomous eyes. Smoke continued to pour out from his stomach like from an open wound. Apparently, the purple circle had injured the dragon.
Filled with hatred, the dragon inhaled and then spat out a red flame tongue towards the spear-shaped mansion as it continued to approach the outer ring.
Lily froze in fear seeing the fire spear coming towards her while Noah was still too stunned by what he saw even to recognize the danger he was facing.
Before the flames could reach the outer wall, a figure appeared in the air between them.
He raised his right hand and muttered something then a fire spear struck something like a wall of air.
The friction between the fire and the shield lasted for a few seconds before the fire was extinguished and the floating figure was seen again.
He was an old man, with a long white beard that was combed straight up to his waist and his unbound long hair fluttering in the wind. She was wearing a Chinese kimono with large arms but the right one was now on fire, showing her slender but sturdy arms.
He saw the dragon right in his eyes and the dragon did the same.
The stalemate lasted for about 10 seconds before the dragon roared once more and turned to leave at high speed across the sky, towards the forest.
The old man waited a little longer in the air above the wall while looking towards where the dragon was going. After being completely convinced that the beast had left, he sighed and disappeared.
Lily was still frozen in fear and did not realize that Noah's frail body was too tightly grasped.
It was this pain that brought her back to reality as she left a small groan to wake her mother from daydreaming.
Lily returned to reality as well, softening the grip on Noah, and she would say something before being interrupted by an old, deep voice.
"So, this is my last granddaughter, right?"
