REX AND REN

REX AND REN
The Worst Things II

Arriving at the Hospital, it turns out that Papa and Mr. Alif are already there. Waiting anxiously in front of the IGD room.

“Where, Rex?” ask mama to panic. Papa immediately hugged mom and spontaneously sobs mama's cry sounded.

“Sstt..patience, Mom. Rex is still being treated by doctors inside.” said papa while calming.

I stared at the door of the IGD room. There, Rex was in there and I had absolutely no idea what the medics were doing to him. Is she okay? Is he in pain now? Unconsciously my tears flowed, I bit my lower lip trying to swallow my own sobs.

“Ren?” Papa looked at me then he came over and drowned my face in his chest.

My defense collapsed, I cried. My legs are numb and my body is a little unsteady. But papa was swiftly supporting my body.

After crying long enough in papa's arms, we all then sat on the bench provided.

“I'm really sorry, Mom. I am indeed not becus.” said Mr. Alif to the mother who had not said how many times. Mr. Alif's face also looks kuel with red eyes after crying.

“Udah, Sir. Mr. Alif doesn't have to apologize. It is called a disaster, it cannot be avoided. Mr. Alif has taken Rex to the hospital, I thank you very much.”

“Iya, Mom. But I'm really sorry, Mom.”

According to the story of Mr. Alif, Rex was hit by a car that hurtled and carelessly while crossing. Rex intended to buy pizza for me and mom but because it stuck so he preferred a shortcut, which was to cross. But unfortunately, the car hit him until it bounced a few meters before finally sprawled on the asphalt.

I have not ceaselessly condemned his actions. When did we buy pizza? Why would he bother crossing the street just to buy pizza? Does he not know today anything can be bought from home, just use the fingers.

Nearly an hour or so on IGD finally a doctor came out. The middle-aged doctor looked to open his mask. As soon as we all stood, waiting for whatever it was that he would say.

“You're Rexy Adhitya Chandra's family?” said. We all automatically nodded but only papa replied.

“Yes, Doc. I papanya.” The doctor nodded at a glance.

“Look, currently Rexy,”

“Rex!” cut me off who made everyone look at me. “Callation Rex.”

The doctor nodded then smiled.

“Oh, that means Rex. It is currently in critical condition. His leg was injured quite badly, so we had to put a pen on his leg.” explained the doctor.

“Yes, geez, Rex..” complains mama while stomping her head.

“There were cuts and bruises on his body. His head was also injured, but Kali has not followed up because his condition is unstable.”

“But he'll be fine right, Doc?” ask papa in an anxious tone. Of course it represents all our anxieties here.

“Hopefully yes, sir. We strive for the best.” said the doctor in the tone as soft as possible. It seems that it is one of the codes of conduct of a doctor who must be able to be calm so as not to panic the patient's family. Obviously, this doctor did well.

“But at the moment, we happen to run out of blood type O and..”.

“I!” I screamed while holding hands. My voice sounded so loud that it echoed a little in the IGD hallway.

“I'm his twin, Doc. Take my blood. I'm also O.” I'm resolute in trying to convince before the doctor changes his mind. The doctor was silent for a moment, thinking.

Then he said, “Alright, a minute..”.

“Nah, Dik. Now you join this nurse for blood donation.” she said.

I nodded without saying anything.

“Ayo,” invite the nurse. But suddenly, my mom pulled my arm. I looked in wonder.

“Ren, thanks, yes.” said mama who looks back crying. I automatically wiped the tears on her cheeks.

“This is Ren's responsibility, Ma. Anywhere, Rex is Ren's twin. If he is sick, Ren also feels pain.” I said that now also shed tears. Then mom hugged me tightly while kissing my cheek.

The nurse took me to a special room. In the room there are many refrigerators that function to keep the blood bags so as not to be damaged. But among all the blood bags there was not a single blood that Rex needed.

So here I was, lying with my hands attached to needles and hoses that drained my blood into a pouch to give to Rex later. To save him.

“After this you will definitely feel dizzy, so you have to rest for a while, yes.” obviously the nurse who is now removing the needle in my hand.

“Udah, Sus?” my many.

“Iya. I'm done.” he replied while cleaning the needle marks and gluing the plaster.

“Suster,” call me.

“Ya?”

“If Rex needs more blood, just take mine again.” I said. The nurse smiled gently.

“Iya. But now, this is enough.” he later went.

I was still staring at the ceiling. Then I closed my eyes. Let alone the blood, even if Rex needs a kidney, I'll give him one of mine.

***

A few hours after the doctors performed blood transfusions and other medical procedures, Rex was finally able to pass the critical period. The condition is stable and can be moved from the IGD to a regular hospital room but is monitored closely. Papa asked for a VIP room so that Rex and all of us who were waiting for him or visiting him felt comfortable.

In the ward, Rex was lying weak. His nose and mouth are fitted with a hose connected to an oxygen tube. His chest was installed with a device connected to an electrocardiogram (ECG) a heart rate detection device. His head looked bandaged, seemingly suffering a serious injury.

Not without reason all the medical devices were installed on his body. The doctor said that Rex had indeed passed the critical period but he had not realized aka coma. That fact left us all still in a state of anxiety. Especially the mama who had been sitting next to Rex while holding his hand.

Mama unceasingly offered prayers until several times the sound of her stuffing was heard. Papa himself sat down on the long sofa, trying to close his eyes. But I know, papa is just trying to look tough so that me and my mom can be tough too.

“Mbak, Ren.” said Mr. Alif who still faithfully accompanied. I looked over and found his tired face that looked clear.

“Sorry father, yes..”

I'm shaking.

“Gak, Sir. It's not Mr. Alif's fault. We also did not expect this would happen.” Mr. Alif covered his face with his hands, looking so sorry.

I, myself, do not blame Mr. Alif. This is destiny and this is how it is and we inevitably have to accept it. Mutual blame is also pointless because the most important thing now is that Rex can wake up again.
