Mama Rafka welcomed my arrival with hugs and kisses on both of my cheeks. It turns out that our Mama is the same, always excited when welcoming the arrival of the prospective daughter-in-law, no wonder if their chat during the arisan a few weeks ago led to an arranged marriage between me and Rafka. I don't know how far my mom told Rafka about me. Not infrequently mama will also add something that is not in me when telling stories with her friends.
In addition to the kiss, my arrival was also greeted by a traditional dish that filled the table. How about this, I've eaten so much before that seeing them makes me nauseous. Not because the appearance of Mama Rafka's cooking is not attractive, they look very delicious but my stomach is full of meat and perila leaves. It turned out that my initiative to eat first before meeting Mama Rafka was a big mistake.
At first glance Rafka told me that her parents separated when she was in High School so that I did not misunderstand or even ask about the existence of her Papa. Rafka has a younger sister who is married first.
We sat around the dining table, there were two empty chairs right in front of me and Rafka.
"Febri again at her husband's house now, there is usually Zico also here, if there is no they house so quiet." Mama Rafka said while looking at me in the shade. Hearing the name Zico I immediately remembered the anysong challenge on the tik tok that was viral lately, what the hell is Car!
"I want to meet Febi and Zico." I developed a big smile to my very friendly future-in-law. Based on instinct, I guess Febi is the name of Rafka's sister while Zico must be Febi's son aka Rafka's niece. Of course I have to guess it myself because Rafka the robot man didn't tell me before.
"Febi's husband's indictment is army so once they come they want to stick it out."
"Army?" My birthday, meaning army name for BTS fansclub?
"Yes he just got back from Kalimantan after three months of stint there."
"Oh." I long while grinning clumsy, besides the camer why not just say soldiers than my brain army immediately misfocused.
"Don't you like chicken opor?" camer saw me eating a little rice with fried sambal ati and balado jerky, all the food I like, because my stomach is full I can't fill it any more. The menu on the dining table reminds me of Eid al-Fitr. I just hope the balado jerky doesn't fuss with the cow samchan in my stomach.
"Like a Aunt."
"Caramel's on Ma's diet again, she wants to look perfect on our wedding day." Finally the robot man made a sound to save me from the glut.
"Geez Cara, you're perfect."
"His name is also a Auntie." I put on the widest smile to Mama Rafka.
"What if you bring home the food?"
"Can." I nodded, rather than food it was lonely here no one ate.
Finally Rafka ate all the food on my plate, ah that's right when she also ate quite a lot in the restaurant. But now he still ate the rice and jerky voraciously. Does he eat that much?
Meanwhile a middle-aged woman was moving the untouched food into 3 boxes. Apparently our mama is both good at cooking, while I am good at eating, is not both continuous. Mama says I'll be good at cooking after marriage, I don't know if I'm sure. I'm just good at cooking instant noodles and counting money.
"I'm going to the toilet." Rafka moved first after finishing his meal.
"Eh, go to the back toilet, Mama and Caramel go to your room." Excited mama Rafka.
"Yes." Yeah." Rafka nodded then stepped up and disappeared behind the dining room door.
"Come to Rafka's room." Mama Rafka.
"This is how Auntie?" I asked the fate of the dish of food on the table.
"Let Auntie do it." Mama Rafka grabbed my hand leading me to a room closest to the living room.
"Where do you want to live after marriage?" Camer opens Rafka's room door.
Very neat, this is better than my room.
"The caramel?"
"Well?" I realized from my admiration for the room of the robot man. The room looks like a hotel, the broken white bed cover is so neat there is no tangle in the slightest. Two sleeping lights on the right and left sides then display a super large map of Indonesia on the wall. Rows of books neatly arranged on the shelf. There was no dressing table, only a study table that fused with the wall near the entrance.
"Where do you want to live after marriage?"
"Rafka hasn't told you about Tan?" I saw mama Rafka closing the curtains.
"He didn't tell me anything, Rafka if he wasn't asked where he wanted to tell." Camer sat at the end of the bed and patted the empty spot beside her.
I thought Rafka would be more open with the people closest to him but it turns out he is like a robot.
"We'll stay in the apartment." I answered while sitting next to Mama Rafka.
"Rafka used to say that taking a girl home meant she was his future wife, now she's proving it." Mama Rafka opens a photo album on her lap.
"Aren't Rafka ever bringing a girl here Auntie?" I asked doubtful, guys today where there is such a thing.
"You're the first girl he brought here and you're getting married."
Rafka flattered me, imagine she never had a boyfriend while I've been dating Rama for years. I rarely change girlfriends, since Junior High I only have 3 ex-girlfriends but Rafka? ah she's so sweet.
"Look at this Rafka TK time." Mama Rafka pointed at one of the photos of a little boy wearing a Kindergarten uniform, I laughed anxiously at him. Rafka grows up well into a handsome but affectionate man. Ah I don't want to mention Rafka's shortcomings, however he's my future husband.
We saw photos of Rafka ranging from newborn to the last photo when he graduated. After graduating High School, Rafka went on to STMKG before finally becoming a member of BMKG.
"Our school is across." My index finger touched a photo of Rafka in uniform Pelita Nusa High School. "Of course we meet often just unconsciously."
"It turns out Rafka's soul mate is close." Mama Rafka rubbed my arm, I replied with a sweet smile. "Oh yeah Car, you wait here." Mama Rafka put a photo album of size large enough on my lap and then she moved from her seat.
"Where is aunt going?"
"You want to take hp, you know about dark mode on WhatsApp right?"
"Know Aunt." I'm mangosteen.
"Can you ask WhatsApp Aunt for a dark mode?"
I nodded again, Mama Rafka immediately left me in the room. Mothers today are no less slang with their children, even though they know I have never used dark mode on the WhatsApp application because I do not like dark.
"Well, why!" I was confused when the room suddenly went dark. Just now I was thinking about the dark mode why the whole room was suddenly like this. Why there's no power outage notice today.
I clutched the sheet under me, the photo album went somewhere, I don't care. My breath was wheezing, I wasn't messing around about hating the dark.
Wait up? I saw a little light on the nightstand.
"Where's caramel?" Rafka's Voice.
Me here.
"There's in your room, Bi please turn on the generator" Mama Rafka's voice followed.
I can't breathe any more in the middle of this darkness.
"Caramel's afraid of the dark Ma!"
Yeah right
"How come you're okay?"
I vaguely saw Rafka coming with the lighting from her cell phone flash. That stiff face looks panicked, ah I'm still alive.
"How do you see me?" Rafka held my neck with her arms.
I nodded slowly. I hope he's Rafka not a life-revoting angel. I hugged Rafka's neck leaning against her chest and closed my eyes, I felt lucky because Rafka came so fast.
"Caramel, it's light."
I opened my eyes, thank goodness the lights were on.
"Ahh finally!" I exhaled a hard breath.
"You're sweating." Rafka wiped the sweat off my temple as I took off the hug on her neck.
"Well tell me I'm afraid of the dark?" Who else told Rafka if it wasn't mama. That morning they talked about many things.
"No." Rafka.
"Who told you?"
"Nothing, I do know." Rafka's face was flat again when one minute ago it was clear he was panicking.
"Bo–"
"Caramel, this is Aunt HP."
I stopped continuing to say when Mama Rafka returned to the room to give her phone to me, Rafka must have lied about this.
"Oh, yes Auntie." I got Mama Rafka's phone, an old Samsung galaxy note. Why Rafka did not give his mama an iPhone when he used the phone.
"You want to flap?" Rafka saw her Mama's phone in my hand.
"That's how WhatsApp can now be made in dark mode." Answer mama Rafka.
"You don't know?" I saw Rafka, she shook her head slowly. The truth is he doesn't know about this, I'm sure my future husband! "It's Aunt."
"Thank you, yeah." Mama Rafka is excited to receive her phone back, "Bu Winda who told Auntie about this." Oh it turns out that the mother who spread this virus, he was never left behind about the current trend. "Auntie comes out first to want a video call, you guys just talk." He stepped out of the room.
"So I saw the light here." I stepped near the nightstand, there was nothing luminous except the jar contained a pile of origami exactly like Rafka made in the apartment.
"Caramel saw it?" Rafka.
"But what?"
"It." Rafka grabbed the jar.
"You mean this origami? are you playing me?"
"Try turning off the lights then you'll see the light from this origami."
"No, no, no." I'm shaking.
"Don't I ever lie?"
I swallowed the saliva, can I trust him? Rafka never lied but we still haven't known him for a long time.
Ctekk!
"Rafka!" I screamed when Rafka turned the lights off.
But before scolding her, I saw the origami glow in the dark. I was surprised, they looked like the stars in the sky that Rafka took and collected on this jar, it was beautiful.
"I got a gift in a locker ten years ago, someone gave origami kayak gini right on my birthday."
Rafka seemed to open her mouth to reply to me.
"But unfortunately the gift does not prove that he is faithful, the proof is that he said so a week before we married." I reproached him first until Rafka closed his lips again, he returned the jar to the top of the nightstand and turned on the room lamp.
"Let me drive home, it's night." He said as he reached for the car keys that were hung near the door.
Why suddenly? I think Rafka wants to linger with me. We were here when it was night time ago why did he say that.
