Caitlyn could not say anything, other than clutching the frail hand of Jacob who was soundly asleep. His heart ached, tarkala found the condition of concern for the father-in-law.
There is no body left there. Now, there was only a skin-clad bone that was clearly visible on his body.
Compared to Ariana, Jacob's treatment of her used to be much better. Although Jacob ended up obeying Ariana's orders more often to antagonize him.
Caitlyn was no longer concerned about it. Moreover, however, Jacob had been her father-in-law, (even to this day, they were actually still Caitlyn's in-laws), and as a child, Caitlyn was saddened.
He would definitely feel the same way too, if it happened to Ariana.
Not wanting to disturb Jacob's sleep, Caitlyn intends to leave her room. The woman carefully released her hand at the in-law. Suddenly, Jacob's hand moved. Both of his eyes were even open.
"Caitlyn, is that you?" ask Jacob. His voice was barely heard.
Caitlyn nodded quickly. Tears that had been held back earlier, shed instantly. "Yes, Pa, it's Caitlyn."
Jacob's face changed. As a child, the old man cried. The sound of crying is gone and raised irregular.
"I'm sorry Papa!" exclaim Jacob. Now, his trembling hands were trying to reach Caitlyn's face.
Caitlyn guided Jacob's hand towards her cheek. "Don't cry, Pa. Caitlyn's the one who should apologize, for not knowing Papa's condition."
Jacob closed his eyes. While drowning he repeatedly apologized.
Aided by James and a caretaker nurse, they try to calm Jacob's unstable emotions.
Before long, Jacob fell asleep while holding Caitlyn's hand.
"Go back healthy, Pa," whispered Caitlyn softly, landing a light peck on Jacob's forehead. Slowly, he began to let go of his grasp and left his father-in-law.
"Let Chloe and Wayne stay here, and you don't have to accompany them!"Ariana. Both are outside Jacob's room.
"I understand, Ma. I'll get the kids talking" replied Caitlyn.
Without saying anything, Ariana left Caitlyn alone.
Caitlyn was silent for a moment. His eyes were busy staring at every inch of the house. The house he lived in for eight years.
There are many photo figurines on the walls of this luxury house. One of them is a photo of Sean and Owen is quite large.
One thing Caitlyn realized was that there was not a single photo of her. Since long ago, he had indeed never gotten a share anywhere. In fact, photos of her marriage to Sean alone are not allowed to be plastered, other than just in their private room.
Caitlyn takes a slow step towards the only place that has so many fond memories, which is Sean's private room.
As soon as the door of the room opened, Caitlyn's cries broke. The room was still left the same as the one he last saw. In fact, their wedding photos are still mounted neatly on the big bed.
Caitlyn stepped deeper into Sean's wardrobe.
Fragrance of the typical perfume of the late husband, immediately smelled in every strand of his clothes.
Caitlyn took one of the work coats Sean used to wear first, then hugged him as tightly as she could. "Let me remember you for the last time" he murmured softly.
...**********...
Owen looked worriedly at his phone that had not yet rang. The reason, the promise of the wife to directly contact, after landing in John F. Kennedy Airport, it's not working.
The phone didn't even pick up. "What's really going on?" muttered Owen anxiously.
Without opening the message, Owen immediately called the woman.
"What's going on? Why don't you call me right away, Cait? I'm worried about you!" exclaimed Owen, a second after Caitlyn picked up her phone.
"I'm doing fine. Just a little argument with Mama, but everything's fine." From behind the phone, Caitlyn said softly.
"Thank God. And what about the kids? What was the reason they picked him up without permission?" ask Owen later.
Silence enveloped the two for a moment. "Cait," call Owen.
"Tomorrow I'll go home and explain everything at home ... By the way, it's twelve o'clock in the night, isn't it? Be rested. No need to worry about anything. The kids just fell asleep."
Owen nodded. A sigh of relief came out of the man's mouth. "All right, give my regards to the children. I love you."
"I am too."
Caitlyn hung up first. The woman deliberately did not want to tell her the real reason over the phone.
For him, such an important matter should be discussed directly.
Caitlyn turned her eyes to Chloe and Wayne who had just fallen asleep. The woman recalls her conversation with Chloe about their delayed return.
It took Caitlyn a lot of effort to convince Chloe and Wayne to stay there without her.
...**********...
"I don't want to, if I'm not with Mom!" chloe is angry. The girl denied the mother's request to stay in their grandmother's house, even to accompany her ailing grandfather.
"Chloe, listen! Grandpa needs you, we don't know what's going to happen to Grandpa next, and I don't want to make you regret it later" Caitlyn said, holding onto Chloe's shoulders.
"But, Grandma's not entirely good, ma'am. Wayne and I are scared!" reply Chloe. His eyes looked at his mother, hoping she could understand.
"Grandma's not a bad person, honey. He does look like that with mom, but not with you, son. Didn't Mom always teach you to respect anyone?"
Chloe bowed, then nodded briefly.
"Only until grandfather's condition is better, after that I promise to pick you up home." A promise on Caitlyn's lips.
Chloe swiftly hugged the body of the mother again. Wayne is too. "Promise me, Mom? I have to come pick me up and Wayne again!" pinta Chloe bye.
Caitlyn nodded. He kissed the forehead of his beloved sons.
...**********...
The next day, Caitlyn actually returned to London. Along with Chloe and Wayne's sobs, the woman leaves the Edmund family residence.
"Don't go, Mom!" shouting Wayne. The little boy rebelled. James hurriedly carried Wayne and calmed himself down.
In the taxi, Caitlyn kept her mouth shut. He tried not to look back again, so that the determination of his heart remained awake.
I don't know, Caitlyn herself actually felt bad leaving them there. They are clearly not strangers.
"Two weeks. Hang on for two weeks, and I'll be back here" the woman murmured.
