JOHN THE MERCENARY

JOHN THE MERCENARY
CHAPTER 011 - I'LL BURN ALL THIS!

In the yard, he saw the owner of the house, the old man was sitting and drinking alcohol.

John approached the old man and sat down with him in the courtyard.

“You want?”

The old man offered John alcohol.

Without answering, John took the bottle and drank a mouthful.

“It has been 49 days since our son died. We're on our way back from the temple.”

The man stood up and walked towards his yard.

John stood up and followed him.

The yard of the house was vast with plants and weeds surrounding it.

“The fruit trees are like children. They quickly wither in a short time, if no one takes care of them.”

“I'll get rid of all this. Nobody bought it, so I'm gonna burn all this!”

The middle-aged man began to tell stories while chugging his alcohol and offered the bottle to John.

John took the bottle of alcohol, then finished what was left.

“Listen to me, Son. Can you get rid of these trees and weeds for me?”

Finally, the old man asked John for help to clean his yard.

“You're serious, want me to cut all this?” ask John.

“Of course, Son. I seriously. Eliminate everything!  It would be hard, if I did it myself.”

“Good. I'll do it.”

“Really you will do it?”

John just nodded his head.

“Gosh. I feel free to be gone from my chest! Then please do that for me tomorrow. I'll pay your wages as much as I can.”

“Well,” jawan John.

“Thank God. Nice work!”

So did John who also returned home and rested.

In the morning, when the old man had woken up from his sleep, he saw John who was already in the yard of the house, mowing the weeds using a lawnmower.

John was wearing army pants and a white T-shirt.

The old man began to take a lawnmower and help John who had got half the yard.

The old man's wife also saw John and her husband mowing the lawn together.

During the day, the old man's wife had cooked some potluck, and called John and his husband to eat first.

The man's wife smiled slightly, as she looked at John who was eating voraciously.

Apparently, he remembered his dead son when he saw John who seemed to be the same age as the old couple's son.

“If you want to stay longer, stay.”

“If you're serious about what you're saying, I might stay here, sir,” John replied.

“Hahahaha.”

The old couple laughed at John's cold reply.

“This is very good. You're very good at cooking, Aunty.”

John praised the old man's wife, which made him blush in embarrassment.

The man's wife stood up and took something for John.

“This belongs to our deceased son. You can wear it, if you don't mind.”

The old woman gave John the clothes of her dead son. He felt sorry for John, who was carrying only a few clothes.

“It's the same size as me! Thanks, Aunty.”

John started picking up one of the clothes and trying it out.

After lunch, John and the owner of the house resumed their work.

The two of them went back to mowing the remaining weeds a little more.
