In ancient times, the land of Egypt was ruled by an unjust king named Pharaoh. He was an arbitrary king who oppressed the population. Pharaohs were also known as arrogant kings, enslaving and dividing their inhabitants and employing them with forced labor.
One day Pharaoh had a dream that there was a fire coming from Jerusalem that burned down the land of Egypt except the houses of the Children of Israel. Feeling something strange from his dream, Pharaoh finally gathered the soothsayers and sorcerers to ask the meaning of the dream.
After Moses was sent by Allah SWT to become a Prophet, the people of Egypt were increasingly fanatical with their ruler, Pharaoh. Pharaoh succeeded in suppressing the population to deny the teachings of Moses. This is as Allah says in one of the suras, which means:
“Nobody believed in Moses, but the young men of his people (Moses) were afraid that Pharaoh and the princes of his people would torture them. Verily, Pharaoh did mischief in the land. And verily he is among those who transcend.” (QS:Yunus Verse: 83).
For many years Moses and his followers had been patient with the king of Pharaoh and his army who arbitrarily continued to oppress. Not only that, the more days Pharaoh also increasingly opposed and hostile to the truth. At its height Pharaoh with all his pride claimed that he was God. Thus, Moses prayed to Allah.
Moses said: “Our Lord, you have indeed given Pharaoh and the princes of his people jewels and treasures in the life of the world, o Our Lord — as a result they mislead (humans) from Your way. Our Lord, destroy their possessions, and lock their hearts, and they will not believe until they see the painful torment. (QS:Yunus Verse: 88).
Moses Splitting the Ocean
Until finally with the permission of Allah SWT, Moses and his followers decided to leave Egypt and go to Sham. Hearing this news the anger of Pharaoh was mounting. So he prepared his army to pursue Moses and his followers.
The Pharaoh's army continued to pursue Moses and his followers. Some of Moses' followers complained that the Pharaoh's army was almost upon them. And before them the road was covered in the sea, and Moses said,
"It shall not be overtaken, but my Lord is with me, and He will guide me.”. (QS:Asy-Syu’ara Verse: 62).
At that time the situation was very precarious and was squeezed by the Prophet Moses and his followers. But with all the strength of faith, Moses tried to calm his followers. After that came the revelation of Allah SWT to Moses.
“Hit the sea with your rod”Then the sea was divided and every part was like a great mountain. (QS:Asy-Syu’ara Verse: 63).
After the sea had split, Moses and his followers rushed across the road. Then Pharaoh and his army tried to cross the road, but the sea was back as it was, eventually Pharaoh and his followers drowned. As Allah SWT said in one of the Surahs, which means:
“And We saved Moses and all those who were with him. And We drowned the others. Verily in this is a great sign (miracle) and yet most of them do not believe (QS:Asy-Syu’araa Verses: 65-67)
The soothsayers mean that a baby boy from the descendants of the Children of Israel will be born who will destroy the Egyptian population. Hearing the meaning of the dream, Pharaoh was very frightened. So He commanded that if any son born of the Children of Israel should be killed.
Moses was born at the time of the murder of the boy. Therefore his mother chose to stay away and find a safe place from the reach of the Pharaoh's army. Allah SWT inspired Moses' mother to suckle him and put him in a crate and then put him in the river.
“And We have inspired Moses' mother; “Take her, and if you are worried about her, drop her into the river (Nil). And do not worry, and do not be (or) grieved, for We will return it to you, and make it (one) of the apostles.” (QS. Al Qashashh: 7).
Until one day, the Mother of the Prophet Moses forgot to pull the rope and make her child carried away by the Nile. Then the coffin floating in the river was carried to the palace of Pharaoh and found by Pharaoh's wife named Asiyah.
The Pharaoh's wife was a barren woman, determined to care for and keep the baby she had found from murder.
With pity Asiyah brought the baby Moses before her husband. As stated in one of the following suras.
“(He) is an eye-cooling heart for me and for you. Do not kill him, hopefully he is beneficial to us or we take him to be a child.” (QS. Al Qashhash:9).
At that time Pharaoh agreed to his wife's request not to kill the baby and was raised to be a child.

But the sea had returned to its original state after Moses and passed through it. Pharaoh and his followers drowned. As Allah SWT said in one of the Surahs, which means:
