Jing Ruo clearly had feelings for Jing Hao, so how could he not notice it? And thought she would still leave Cheng Xin alone, causing her to lose face in front of her friends.
Shao Chong really wanted to hug him to comfort him, but he was not qualified to stand in that position. He could only force himself to smile and say, “This is my fault, I ignored Little Jin because I was busy. Not only that, I've made you wait a long time, and now you're hungry. So I'll treat you both to dinner tonight; just enjoy yourself and eat.”
He pushed the menu to Cheng Xin as he spoke.
Is he busy with work? How did he find the time to call her?
Gu Jin swept his waist to the side and the corners of his lips lifted into a smile as he quietly watched them. His blood jade bracelet was in stark contrast to his snow-white wrist.
Cheng Xin accepted her offer and politely ordered many of Shao Chong's favorite dishes.
After a while, the dishes were placed on the table one by one.
Although the delicious dish gave off an appetizing aroma, Gu Jin was not at all appetizing. She and the original host were both picky about their food –they didn't like anything cooked with coriander leaves.
However, there are only two dishes on the table that do not have coriander leaves. Of those who accompanied him, one was his self-proclaimed girlfriend while the other claimed to be his girlfriend, but neither of them considered his liking.
Maybe they're aware, but they don't care.
At this moment, his mind triggered many memories and images to enter his mind, as if the previous host's hatred had flooded into each of his creatures, unable to be soothed.
Gu Jin wanted to ask them, 'Why?'
Why was Shao Chong chasing after her even though his heart only had room for Cheng Xin? Why did she choose to marry him even though she never forgot her cousin?
After she married Shao Chong, why did Cheng Xin ignore the public view and continue to seek Shao Chong's help, even if it raised people's suspicions?
Should her feelings be completely ignored just because she was a gentle and wise person?
On that day, when the kidnappers pointed a knife at his neck, Gu Jin felt extremely desperate!
She wrapped her hands around her stomach as she carefully protected her precious child.
Because Shao Chong liked children, he often whispered into his ears how cute his children were once they were born.
When she was stabbed with pain and blood dripping, her husband was with another woman about to give birth!
A thought suddenly surfaced in the mind of former Gu Jin: Shao Chong would never want his son. He would only like Cheng Xin's!
After eating only two bites, Gu Jin uncomfortably leaned back in his chair. His face looked pale but the two people beside him continued chatting, unaware of his condition. He massaged his temple to try to ease his discomfort but it was useless. Unable to stay any longer, Gu Jin excused himself to go to the restroom, then exit the room.
After she washed her hands in the sink, Gu Jin stared at her reflection in the mirror. Just now, his memory of the pain from that day felt so vivid and real, as if he had returned to that time and had experienced that event as the real Gu Jin himself.
Who knows if this is the case where ‘Zhuangzi dreams of becoming a butterfly, or if a butterfly dreams of becoming a Zhuangzi.’[1]
After tidying himself up and staying in the bathroom for a while, Gu Jin came out into the hallway with a completely calm appearance, as if he had never suffered from any recent intense pain.
The sound of his heels echoed through the corridor. Fresh flowers adorn the sides of the hallway. Gu Jin displayed his most perfect smile before pushing the door open and entering.
After carefully closing it, he raised his head and looked around. His smile was completely gone.
Why is the room inside so dim?
He took two steps forward and stopped...
He could hear a short breath in the room, as if a cheetah was waiting for its prey in the darkness, ready for action. Gu Jin's hair swayed as he took a sharp turn and ran towards the exit.
“Ah–” She hit a sturdy chest, causing her to feel confused. He grimaced in pain and his nose felt sore.
Unable to handle his injured nose at the moment, he hurriedly said, “Sorry..”.
Before he could even finish his sentence and say 'I walked into the wrong room, ' Gu Jin suddenly found himself unable to speak.
A man moved swiftly and ferociously towards her, and held onto her waist.

[1] From Zhuangzi and the Bloody Butterfly's story: According to the Zhuangzi of Chinese philosophical classics, the great Daoist thinker by that name one day fell asleep and dreamed that he was a butterfly. When he wakes up, he doesn't know if he's really a man who dreams of becoming a butterfly or if he's a butterfly who now dreams of becoming a man.
