I Refuse to Be a Supporting Character
Chapter 122: Help

“No,” Gu Jin raised his eyebrows. “We settled our score long ago, so none of us owe anything to each other.” He gulped down the coffee and a pungent sweetness spread in his mouth. Gu Jin squinted his eyes happily. This coffee shop is great.

Cheng Xin looked at him with a hint of envy. The woman in front of him did not even wear light makeup, her entire body exuding freshness and comfort. Actually, what he said just now happened from the bottom of his heart. Gu Jin really looks beautiful.

“I know, what I did was wrong. If you don't intend to forgive me, then I won't insist. Cheng Xin laughed at herself and said bitterly,” But for the sake of the reputation of your aunt and mother, can you help me?”

Drinking excessive amounts of sweetened coffee causes fatigue and anxiety. Gu Jin put down the porcelain cup, lightly agreeing, “Speak, I will listen to you.”

He knew in his heart that only the blood relation between the mother of both parties connected him with Cheng Xin. Even if Cheng Xin moved, they would probably demand fairly fair compensation due to their relationship with Gu Jin's mother, Li Mingxia.

Cheng Xin's recent experience taught her to speak attentively. Against Gu Jin's cold demeanor, his heart was pounding as he carefully spoke his mind.

After listening to Cheng Xin, Gu Jin finally understood their situation.

The news that the longing Jing Hao and the Li Family interacted intimately spread throughout the Imperial capital. On that day at the banquet, Jing Hao stepped in as Cheng Xin's first defender, conspicuously establishing their relationship with the crowd.

Growing up pampered, the only daughter of the Li family did not allow people to oppress her easily. He had a strong desire to monopolize, and he could drown people when he drank vinegar.

(T/N: drink vinegar \= jealous)

Back when Jing Hao rejected her, Miss Li had no idea that she was dating Cheng Xin. Now that Jing Hao and Miss Li had established a clear relationship, Jing Hao was reluctant to scold his new fiance while Cheng Xin was suffering from his provocation.

Cheng Xin got up to carry the mantle, but she had no experience managing the company, nor did she learn the relevant knowledge in an organized manner. Instead, he tried to seek help elsewhere. Unfortunately, on his way to meet Jing Hao, his path was blocked by Li Yu. Jing Hao even blacklisted Cheng Xin's name from his own contacts.

Cheng Xin felt a sense of despair, but she had no one else to blame. Although he could only swallow the bitter fruit he created, he could not allow Father Cheng, who worked hard his entire life, to be buried with him. He had no choice but to look for Gu Jin.

“My family and I did not involve myself with business matters,” Gu Jin said after a moment of silence. “I'm afraid I can't help you–”

“I know that,” interrupted Cheng Xin, his voice colored with vigor and caution. “I understand that Master Mu and Jing Hao did not get along..”

“You and Mu Mingcheng are dating. Can you, perhaps, ask him to help the Cheng family overcome this predicament? As a token of gratitude, we are willing to offer a portion of the Cheng family shares,” his proposal.

Under Gu Jin's calm gaze, the volume of his voice was getting lower until, finally, he was completely speechless.

Then I might disappoint you, Gu Jin suddenly replied with a grin. Responding to Cheng Xin's confused eyes, he slowly explained, “Mu Mingcheng and I just broke up a few days ago.”

……

Walking towards the cafe exit, Gu Jin paused for a moment, before turning to say to Cheng Xin, “If the Cheng family can last more than half a month, you should be able to overcome this.”

Still sitting behind the coffee shop, Cheng Xin's eyes twinkled.
