Gu's parents personally thought that a gentle and patient man would be best suited for their daughter. Shao Chong seemed to fit that characteristic.
Just then, Gu Jin walked out of the kitchen while wiping his hands dry.
“Master Shao was wrong,” he smiled faintly as he slowly walked towards the table. “Master Shao is not my close friend, he is actually my ex-boyfriend.”
Gu Jin's words struck out like a thunderstorm, immediately creating an uneasy tension among the Gu family.
Since when does my daughter/sister have a boyfriend? Why don't I know it?
“Aibi and uncle, forgive me,” Shao Chong said as he stood up. He calmly added: “There are some misunderstandings between me and Jin–”
“Not a single misunderstanding,” Gu Jin raised his voice and interrupted. “We've broken up after our last discussion. No misunderstandings after that.”
“Little Jin, I admit that I've done you wrong before,” Shao Chong shook his head helplessly and said in a pleading voice, “But you can always give me a chance to make up for it.”
“You have made a mistake and you want to make up for it,” Gu Jin's head lowered as he spoke. He then looked up and replied in an indifferent voice, “Unfortunately, the person you are looking for, the one who can give you a second chance is no more.”
“What do you mean?” Shao Chong felt suffocated by his inexplicable words. “Explain that to me.”
“Master Shao,” said Gu Jin with a cold smile, without giving him an explanation for his previous words. “My girlfriend won't be happy if she finds out that you came to see my parents in person.”
In other words, get out!
“Little Jin, I don't know how you met Mu Mingcheng, but he's not for you.” Shao Chong remembered the couple joining hands at the banquet. His heart was so desperate that he forgot to continue questioning him about the meaning behind his previous words.
“He is better than you in every way,” Gu Jin steps back to the entrance and opens the door. He smiled faintly and said, “It's a bit late for you to be here, Mr. Shao. I don't want the news to spread throughout the House of Representatives building tomorrow morning, saying that the heirs of the Shao family are forcibly trying to break into our house.”
“Little Jin, I hope you reconsider the things I have said,” sighed Shao Chong. He said in a whisper, “I'll be waiting for you, all the time.”
“I ended up very miserable in a messy life; I absolutely do not want anything to do with you,” Gu Jin replied as he sneered. “So, can you stop being disgusting by pretending to be a saint?”
Seeing Shao Chong's persistent gaze, Gu Jin rolled his eyes in annoyance. Can't he understand human words?
After expelling the man with his gift, Gu Jin looked back at his family with a complicated expression.
“Small Jin,” says Li Mingxia. As she stared at her daughter, she felt like she had failed as a mother; she never realized that her little girl had grown into a mature woman. Li Mingxia advised with great emphasis, “Since you've grown up, we believe that you can handle your emotional life well. Remember to protect yourself.”
Gu Jin nodded.
As Gu's parents watched their daughter retreat upwards, they couldn't express the melancholy feeling they had just experienced. It was as if the treasure they once held in their palms would now be in the hands of someone else. All they could do was hope that their daughter would not suffer in the future.
