Gu Jin's parents transferred the house deed to Gu Jin's name on the spot and handed him the key for him to use as he pleased. If he failed in his business, then he would at least own some property where he could settle down. They also remembered to tell Gu Teng that, when he was 20 years old and an adult, they would also give him a home.
However, on the way home, Gu Teng whispered to Gu Jin. He stated confidently that, by the time he turned 20, he should be able to buy his own house on his own merits. He would rather not want property from his parents.
Gu Jin smiled as he held the key to his house. According to the rate at which Gu Teng's talent and efforts in computer science studies grew, he should be able to blend in with wind and water within a few years. When that time comes, let alone buying a house, some people will be very willing to buy a house for him.
……
Afternoon arrived, so Gu Changsheng and Li Mingxia changed their shoes to prepare for class today.
While politely escorting them to the door, Gu Jin helped out by carrying their luggage. He held the car door for them as they boarded and asked doubtfully, “Bu, Dad, do you two have time this weekend?”
“Why? What's up this weekend?” Gu Changsheng asked first, before Li Mingxia patted his arm and replied Gu Jin, “We are free.”
Under her mother's clear gaze, Gu Jin became somewhat embarrassed. “Mingcheng plans to visit our home this weekend. She was worried that her visit would interfere with your work, so she asked me to inquire about your availability first.”
“Who Mingcheng?” The name had made Gu Changsheng dumbfounded. It was only when he realized the hesitation in Gu Jin's eyes that he connected the dots, that “Mingcheng” most likely meant his future son-in-law. Pronouncing the name pensively, Gu Changsheng wondered if he had previously heard that name elsewhere.
He glanced at his wife, calmly replied, “Late this week, then.”
To this, Gu Jin replied, “Then, I will tell him to visit this weekend.”
“Changsheng, our child is an adult,” Li Mingxia observed the silhouette of Gu Jin through the reverse mirror on the front door. He added emotionally, “We are also old.”
Before they knew it, Gu Jin had already experienced two relationships, the first one to hurt him emotionally.
However, after half a year, especially in the past two months, Gu Jin became an adult with visible speed. Perhaps, the sentiment of —gained from such experience— works as the best teacher for adult girls. Now that Gu Jin's understanding of romance and marriage seemed responsible for them, relief struck them.
Nonetheless, if possible, they prefer to prevent their daughter from experiencing such pain in order to become an adult.
On a clear and pleasant day, Mu Mingcheng solemnly walked towards the front door.
The weather is hot in summer, with temperatures rising to 30 degrees Celsius. Despite the heat, Mu Mingcheng wore a full suit - fitted with a tightly-tied tie, his glasses, and a pair of hand-made pure Italian leather shoes - and pressed the doorbell button.
After Gu Jin received the news of Mu Mingcheng's arrival, he waited at the door for quite a while. Today, she wore light makeup and an ankle-length dress that portrayed her with incredible dignity and tenderness.
As soon as he appeared in sight, Gu Jin needed to take a few deep breaths to calm his nerves, yet he praised, “You look handsome today.”
“You also look beautiful,” Mu Mingcheng looked at her as he gestured for his driver and bodyguard to put down the gift.
Gu Jin painstakingly tried to pull one corner of his mouth up.
“Are you okay? Is the air too hot for you to breathe?” Mu Mingcheng smiled. Although his face was filled with worry, he failed to hide the ridicule on his lips. “Actually, you didn't have to wait for me all this time. I can walk myself to the door myself.”
“No,” Gu Jin showed a glance as he slowly exhaled and shook his head, “I just feel a little nervous.”
Don't be nervous, Mu Mingcheng comforted with his soothing voice. He realized that not only did he seem nervous, but his anxiety reached an extreme. “I won't let you down.”
Gu Jin nodded involuntarily, unsure whether he should trust his words or not.
