I Refuse to Be a Supporting Character
Chapter 18: Gu Ling

Speaking of Gu Ling, she was also a character mentioned several times in the novel. Gu Jin, who read novels in the previous world, knew a few things about this character.

There's more to it than having a bad impression.

Gu Ling was not really blood related; she was actually adopted and raised by Grandma Gu in the countryside.

Decades ago, when the country was engulfed in political turmoil, Grandpa Gu and his family suffered heavy losses. As a result, she joined other erudite youth to move to the countryside, where she ended up living for several years before marrying one of the local women.

At that time, Gu Changsheng was born with a younger brother named Gu Changning.

After being rehabilitated in the countryside, Grandpa Gu returns to the city and is accepted into the university. Unlike most men who would leave their women and children in the countryside, Grandpa Gu returned to bring his wife, Grandma Gu and their children, back, away from the village they knew and went to the city with him.

When their son Gu Changning was 19 years old, he met a bastard who robbed a helpless girl on the streets. Just as he was about to save the victim, he got two fatal knife wounds to his stomach and died before reaching the hospital.

Ever since the death of her son, Grandma Gu had often thought about her youngest son. Unaccustomed to city life, he returned to his hometown in the countryside.

Since Grandma Gu lived in a rural area without her husband, it was not surprising that she heard the feudal idea of leaving 'seed' for Lord Gu by adopting a child.

Their son, Gu Changsheng, agreed that adopting another child would not be a burden to their family; he believed it would be beneficial. If her parents spend time raising a child, it will help ease their loneliness. Therefore, he ignored Li Mingxia's opposition and personally agreed.

His adopted son was Gu Ling.

The reason why Gu Jin's parents were in conflict was also because of him.

In the original novel, Gu Jin disliked Gu Ling, but he sometimes invited her to socialize to show respect to his grandmother and father.

However, they never thought this was the case of 'a farmer raising snakes'.

Gu Ling was six months older than Gu Teng, and he was extremely arrogant.

There was nothing wrong with this idea, except that he chose to aim for things that were beyond his reach. First he coveted Gu Jin's girlfriend, Shao Chong, before changing his plans and aiming at Jing Hao, who stood on higher financial ground than Shao Chong.

Later in the story, who knows what happened, but Jing Hao somehow develops feelings of pity and affection towards Gu Ling, which triggers a quarrel between the male and female protagonists.

Due to his involvement, the brotherhood of Cheng Xin and former Gu Jin was almost destroyed!

The present Gu Jin would naturally not care about the slight friendship between the original host and the female protagonist. Whichever man Gu Ling wanted, let him catch the man if he had the ability; gu Jin did not have any complaints.

And if Gu Ling wanted to use it as a foothold like he did to his original host, Gu Jin would not mind pressing him under his feet.

But right now, he had more pressing matters to deal with.

For example, the reminder he received from the Literature Club.

Mu company.

The assistant carefully placed a stack of documents on his employer's desk. “Master, this is the information you requested to investigate.”

“Alright, just leave it there,” Mu Mingcheng replied involuntarily; without looking up, he remained silent reading the documents in his hands.

The assistant carefully closed the door and let out a sigh of relief.

The mood of the Young Master had seemed extremely sour over the past two days. The one bearing the burden was his closest subordinate, who was afraid of making mistakes in carrying out his orders.
