Chaptre 58. Bereft

In a room dominated by white, Emily opened her eyes slowly. His body feels weak. Emily also felt pain in her stomach.

"Son's awake" was the cry of Neil, Emily's sister.

Emily looked at her sister sitting next to her bed.

"Where are we Neil?" ask Emily who is still confused by her condition.

"We're in the hospital. Did you forget? Big Brother's stomach suddenly hurt earlier," Neil replied cautiously.

Emily tried to remember. Shortly thereafter, Emily rounded her eyes. Emily was crying. Emily remembers now, she had a severe contraction in her stomach. After that he remembered nothing.

Emily felt her stomach. He turned his shirt slightly up and saw on his stomach there were scratches and stitches wrapped in bandages.

"My baby? What about my baby, Neil?" emily shouted while crying in fear.

Neil hugged his brother.

"Silent-natured. I beg you to calm down" said Neil, trying to calm his hysterical brother.

"Say Neil! My two babies are fine, right?" shouts Emily.

A female doctor and nurse entered the room when she heard Emily's screams.

"Doctor Samantha, please help calm my brother down" Neil said.

"Miss, please calm yourself. Pity the baby in your womb" said Dr. Samantha.

"Both of my babies are okay, aren't they doctors? They're still alive, right? Then why are there stitches in my stomach?" ask Emily.

Doctor Samantha let out a long breath.

"I'm sorry, miss. When you arrive at the hospital, you have experienced quite heavy bleeding. One of your twin fetuses we couldn't save. And by force, we have to have surgery to get it out for the safety of your life and that of your twin brother" Dr Samantha said.

"This is impossible. There's no way my baby died. I don't want to lose one of my babies" Emily shouted hysterically.

Emily could not accept the fact that she had already lost one of her twin babies. Neil continued to hug his brother while crying. Doctor Samantha gave a sedative injection in her infusion tube. Emily's eyes slowly started to weigh, and she fell asleep.

Doctor Samantha rechecked Emily and the baby in her womb. The nurse cleaned Emily's stitches that were bleeding because Emily was moving a lot earlier. The nurse immediately changed her bandages.

"How is my brother's doctor?" ask Neil.

"Overall everything is good, only his physical condition is still weak. Her age is about three months. Later after your brother is conscious and calm, we will do a re-examination. Unlike her twin sister, this fetus is very healthy and strong. Try not to let your sister be too stressed. And always give her support so she can accept the departure of one of her fetuses" replied doctor Samantha.

Neil nodded his head in understanding.

"Then what about the fetus that you guys have removed from my sister's stomach? Where's the body now?" ask Neil again.

"The body of the fetus is in the morgue. You can take it there, "doctor Samantha explained.

"alright. Thank you so much, doctor" Neil said.

"Together, Sir. Then we'll excuse you first" said Doctor Samantha.

After Samantha and her nurse died, Neil sat down next to Emily's bed. Neil held Emily's hand and kissed her affectionately.

"What is really going on inside that building, brother? Until it makes you like this. Is it because the man named Aiden won't admit to the two babies in your womb?" neil muttered while crying.

"If it's the man who made you like this, I won't stay silent. I'll pay it back. I don't care even if he's a feared mafia. Because he has hurt the brother I love the most" Neil said with a hateful look.

Two hours later, Emily's consciousness had returned slowly. Emily saw Neil sleeping while sitting beside his bed holding his right hand.

Emily's cry broke when she remembered that one of her babies was dead. He rubbed his stomach slowly.

"I'm sorry dear Mommy. Sorry Mommy. Mommy shouldn't have brought you guys to that place. We're supposed to go far away" said Emily, sobbing.

The Flashback

A few months ago, Emily was preoccupied with her activities as a volunteer doctor in Italy. When handling a patient, suddenly his head felt dizzy and shortly afterwards he fell unconscious.

Upon waking up, Emily was shocked when her doctor and friend told her that Emily was pregnant. Because all this time she had only had sex with Aiden and Emily never forgot to take her pregnancy-preventing medication.

Emily immediately went back to the gynecologist. And once again, Emily was shocked because there were two fetuses in her womb. Emily is in a dilemma, she doesn't know what to do. Eventually Emily decided to quit her job because she wanted to keep both her future twins.

Her brother, Neil, is the only person who knows of her pregnancy. Emily forbids Neil from telling their family because he doesn't want to make his family anxious. Emily decided to stay in Madrid, Spain, with Neil. It just so happens that Neil is continuing his study at one of the universities in the city of Madrid.

When she was three months old, Emily always felt the greatest longing for Aiden. Emily knew that both babies were missing their father. Every day Emily hugs a photo of Aiden printed on Neil's T-shirt. Neil put it on so Emily could be as if hugging Aiden. It was all Neil did for his dear brother.

"Sister, we better get to Germany. We'll meet the father of both of your babies. I can't bear to see my brother continue to grieve and cry like this. Either way the man should know that what was done that night has resulted in two twins" Neil said.

"What if Aiden won't admit it? He's not a guy who wants to have a bond, Neil. She always said that she didn't want the woman she once slept with whining to hold her accountable. Aiden never wanted to have children" Emily said sobbing.

"Sister won't know until sister tries it. I will always be with my sister. And if the man refuses, big brother need not worry I am ready to be their adoptive father. I'll protect the three of you" Neil assured.

"Well, tomorrow we go to Germany" said Emily.

Upon arrival in Germany, Emily heads straight to the Morris family company. Guards there said Aiden wasn't there. Because their boss will attend a party at a building called Joy Dream, owned by one of the richest businessmen in Germany.

Emily decides to meet Aiden at the party. She was wearing a white dress with her hair beautifully draped.

"Are you sure you'll see him alone? I can accompany Brother" asked Neil as the two were in a car parked in the parking lot of the Joy Dream building.

"So sure Neil. You don't have to worry" replied Emily.

"Alright always turn on Brother's phone so I can continue to monitor the GPS and know where Brother's location," said Neil relented.

Emily nodded, then got out of the car. Emily took a deep breath, then stepped into the building. Because Emily was not among the guests, Emily entered the building through the back door and gave a considerable amount of money to the people standing guard there.

In the party room there were many people. Emily continues to search for Aiden's whereabouts. Both eyes saw Aiden standing alone holding a glass of wine. Emily smiled happily.

"That's Daddy darling. We're gonna meet Daddy," said Emily, stroking her stomach.

Emily steps her foot toward where Aiden is. But his steps stopped when he was near the table where Cassandra and her friends gathered. Emily heard clearly that the woman named Cassandra was Aiden's current lover. Emily's heart felt pierced when hearing Cassandra's confession if Aiden had proposed to her and the two would soon be married. Emily also stared at the ring that Cassandra was displaying to her friends.

Emily undoes her intention to see Aiden. Emily immediately turned her body and stepped out of the room. Along the hallway, Emily could no longer hold back her tears that continued to fall.

"Emmy!" there was the voice of a man she knew very well calling out to her.

Pyaarr!!! (Sounds of glass shards)

Emily continued to walk without looking back in the slightest. Emily saw a woman wearing a white dress with her hair draped in her eyes staring at the garden. Emily immediately hid behind a large pole. Aiden's voice called out his name.

Emily sees Aiden approaching the woman who looks like him.

"Emily," called Aiden while pulling the woman's arm and facing her.

"Oh..," the woman cried a little in shock.

Aiden surprised. That woman is not Emily.

"Sorry Miss. I thought you were my friend. Again sorry," said Aiden.

Aiden immediately left the woman.

"That's okay, sir," said the woman, forcing her smile.

Aiden circulated his gaze to the corner of the place, but the person he was looking for was not there.

"Dear maiden. What are you doing here?" ask Cassandra.

Emily sees Cassandra walking closer to Aiden.

"I'm just looking for some fresh air. We'd better go home now" replied Aiden.

"Are you sure? The party is not finished yet" Cassandra said.

"If you still want to be here, go ahead. I want to go home" said Aiden coldly.

"No. I'm coming home with you. And we can have fun together later" said Cassandra with her carefree face.

"They're really a compatible couple" Emily's inner.

Emily comes out of hiding after confirming Aiden and Cassandra have left.

"I'm sorry Mommy, baby. Mommy can't get you together with Daddy, because our existence will ruin your Daddy's happiness. Mommy will take care of you and raise you. Mommy hopes you can understand" said Emily, stroking her stomach.

Emily immediately wiped away her tears not wanting to make Neil anxious.

"Sister is back. How did you meet that guy?" ask Neil when Emily gets in the car.

"We'd better get out of this place Neil. Brother please," Emily said with a pleading gaze.

Neil complied and dropped his intention to ask further. Neil knew that Emily was in a bad mood right now, especially with Emily's eyes looking reckless. Emily moaned in pain while holding her stomach and soon fell unconscious.

"Sister, wake. What happened to you?" ask Neil worriedly.

There was fresh blood flowing from the base of Emily's foot and about her dress. Neil immediately drove his car to the hospital. After the examination, Dr. Samantha told that surgery must be done immediately to remove one of Emily's fetuses that can no longer be helped.

Neil was the only member of Emily's family who was in the hospital at the time, reluctantly giving consent to the surgery.

Flashback Off

"Are you awake?" I heard Neil's call.

Emily jerks. He immediately wiped his tears.

"Yes, my sister is awake. Thank you Neil you've always been faithful to accompany Brother," Emily said, trying to smile.

"Sister don't say that. It's my job to protect you, brother," Neil said.

"How does Brother feel now?" ask Neil.

"It's better" replied Emily.

"But I'm hungry. Will you buy me some porridge?" said Emily.

"of course. I'll buy it for you."

"But is Brother okay I live alone in this room?" ask Neil.

"You don't have to worry. I'll be fine" replied Emily reassuringly.

"alright. I'll go first" Neil said.

After Neil's death, Emily slowly took his cell phone that was placed on the nightstand. Emily called someone.

"Hello, Hans. It's you Emily. How are you?"

"May I ask you a favor?" pinta Emily's.
