Children off school, Hans decided to take time off and take his family on vacation. They are currently on their way out of town.
Drrr....
The sound of mobile phone vibration interrupts their small talk. The vibration continues to signal the existence of a phone call.
Erika glanced at Hans who seemed to have no intention of answering the call.
"Why not answer?" Erika raised an eyebrow as her eyes glanced towards the phone that was still continuing to tremble.
Seeing the name on the screen and the continuous notifications, made Erika feel uncomfortable. Hans understood what Erika was feeling.
CLARA'S Calling....
"Office people. Let it go, we're going on vacation." Hans took his phone and turned it off.
Erika did not answer just looking at Hans with a clueless look.
****
Uh...
Shortly after Hans turned off his phone, a sneer sounded Erika's ringtone.
Buru - hunt Erika took her cellphone stored in the bag. His hand grabbed the bag in the back seat while glancing at Abigail and Amanda who were cool listening to music using a headset.
Be late. The ringing tone stopped. It looks like an unknown number is there. There are two missed calls from the same number.
"Who?" ask Hans.
"Do not know. It's dead, though. No name again, " replied Erika while showing her phone screen towards Hans.
Twice in a row - only one minute. Urgentka? (Erican)
"Ups, again.", Erika instantly shifted the green mark on the screen shortly after the ringtone rang.
"Halloo?"
There's no answer. All that was heard was a breath and the sound of someone's sobbing.
"Who is? Hello?" Erika greeted the caller again.
".... Brother Hans....?" a hoarse voice sounded from across there. It was crying and the voice of a woman.
"Haloooo....?" Erika repeated her greeting.
"Huhuhu Brother Hanssss.... Brother Haaaaans...huhu....."
"Who is this?" Erika was confused, she didn't know what to do.
Just imagine, which woman doesn't wonder. When suddenly there is a woman's phone and immediately cry as you like while calling - call your husband's name. It feels like gripping. Or is it Erika who is overreacting?
Duh.amit-amit lest there be a woman who arrived - just suddenly claimed to be pregnant daughter Hans. (Erican)
"What's wrong?" Hans looked at Erika's strange look. Not knowing what to say, Erika thrust the phone at Hans.
"Huh?"
"When?"
"You're okay, aren't you?"
"Where are you now?"
"Hmmm. yeah..."
"Later to call"
Hans's short answers made Erika have trouble guessing what they were talking about.
Yep. Erika doesn't like to see her husband calling other women outside office hours. Moreover, the woman is unknown, and also while crying.
"Who?" Out of curiosity, Erika poked Hans hand while whispering. And Hans gave him a code to wait.
After the call was over, Hans remained silent while still driving the car. Even so, it was clear that his mind was drifting somewhere
..................................silENT..............................
"Huh? Evan who?" Erika felt foreign to the name.
"Clara told me that her boyfriend had an accident on the highway and died on the spot. What do you think we should do?"
It turns out Clara called me to look for Brother Hans. (Erican)
Erika actually knew that Hans was seeking her consent to cancel the holiday.
Is correct. This is sad moment. Grief news. Erika is well aware that this is not a good time to be jealous or selfish.
Nope. It was not Erika who was not sympathetic but there was something tickling her heart. A feeling so hard to describe. Like there was a sense of unwillingness and unwillingness to return to their city. Even for the humanity.
Wretched? Distracted? Or not like it? I don't know Erika herself can't define her feelings. Finally Erika just kept quiet, and put on a face as calm as possible. Erika doesn't want Hans to think he doesn't have empathy.
"What's up Daddy?" chirps Abigail from the back bench. The intelligent and critical Abigail could feel a strange atmosphere between her parents.
"Eeeemmm. Daddy's friend died"
"Trus means our Daddy canceled the vacation and want to go to visit. Is that Dad?" 10-year-old Abigail immediately catches the direction of her Daddy talk.
"Oh Nooo!!! Daddy PHP-in us....Sebel!!", Amanda who was younger 2 and two years immediately said no like. His hands were crossed in front of his chest and immediately looked at the window.
Hans glanced at Erika hoping for help to calm the two children who had begun to protest. But what seemed reluctant to comment. His expression was also illegible.
"Moms?"
"Clara asked you what?" Erika to the point because she remembered Hans last said that Hans would give news to Clara.
What news is that?
"It's not so, Moms. He said he was alone at home. He was confused, panicked, sad to the point of not knowing what to do. Then he asked me to help him take care of Evan's body."
Didn't know Hans was being too honest or he picked the wrong word.
Erika was immediately sensitive to hear the word "accompanion".
Failing has been Erika's attempt to pretend all is well.
"Where's Evan's family? Where's Clara's parents? Aren't they more entitled to take care of Evan and comfort Clara?" Erika asked in a flat tone to show her dislike. His eyes did not look at Hans.
"After all, does taking care of Clara's personal life belong in one of the job descriptions of an assistant President Director?" erika continued without giving Hans a chance to answer.
(Job description \= scope of work)
"Didn't you feel sorry for Clara? Her fiance died and she needed support" Hans asked back, hoping Erika would feel touched.
From the way Erika asked earlier, Hans quite understood that Erika did not agree to cancel the holiday. Hans understood very well that Erika was currently angry, even though she did not shout or say rudely.
"Pity? Ja. Support? Okey...But that doesn't mean accompanying, does it? It's a big no, Brother Hans." replied Erika quietly but it felt cold.
"Moms, are you jealous of Clara?" Hans sighed.
Whats? It's not a matter of jealousy or not. It makes no sense, there is a woman asking for the company of the husband of the person. I knew we were on a vacation. Yes, he is grieving. But is it worth it? There is no bad taste for his wife and children. The phone is turned off only means if you do not want to be disturbed. While her? Instead contact me who never even kept his number. And why should Brother Hans accompany?
Erika nagged at length inwardly without answering Hans question. His heart rebelled, not giving up. Unfortunately, humanity requires him to give up.
"The heart of the girl is easily touched Brother Hans. Don't try yourself." (Erican)
"We're going home, Mom...?"
I don't know, this last sentence feels so ambiguous in the ears of Erika and the children. Is this a question or a statement?
