Worship in Old Times

Success in the presentation does not mean Hafsah and Nadia's task is complete. The next day after the preaentation, the two received the task of escorting comparative study participants to Pondok Pesantren Manula (aged man) in the Depok area.

As mentioned earlier, the establishment of Pesantren Manula is at the initiative of Nadia who is a cousin of Ustadz Hanafi.

In this program, elders who are 70 years old and above, will get religious education for free.

Not only that, the cost of their living while in the cottage is also borne by the Foundation Amal Musi Corporation.

The purpose of the Pesantren Manula program, one of which is to give opportunities to these elders to be able to concentrate on performing worship in old age.

The Manula Pesantren program is in collaboration with Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur, who was raised by the Kiai Ismail Mustafa family, grandfather of Ustadz Hanafi.

From the Pesantren brought in several teachers, to teach these elderly santri, various Islamic sciences.

As for nurses, the Pesantren Manula received assistance from several clinics, health institutions and nursing schools.

The first Manula Pesantren in Depok received 500 participants. Most of them live alone because their life partner has died.

The elders were housed in a residential complex not far from the mixed-use building, mosque and health clinic.

When the group of comparative studies came, the Manula Santri was gathering at the Gedung Serba Guna to learn about religion.

Gedung Serba Guna consists of two main buildings, namely a building for male students and another one specifically for female students.

In each building there is a kitchen. The santri will do lunch activities together, before performing prayer dzuhur congregation or Friday if on Friday.

Between these two main buildings, stands a mosque that is quite magnificent consisting of 2 floors. During congregational prayer, the male santri will be placed on the lower floor, while the female santri is on the upper floor.

Guests or families who want to visit their parents usually take advantage of lunch time to meet.

Similarly, comparative study participants who came from various Pondok Pesantren in Banten and West Java, they waited for lunch time to meet directly with these elderly santri.

"How is mom.... healthy?" ask a comparative study participant to a 75-year-old mother.

"Alhadulillah is healthy." replied the mother who is one of the students in Pesantren Manula.

"Mom still have family?" ask the Appellate Study participants again.

"Yes still.my son is 7 people, tomorrow is Saturday usually someone comes while bringing his family" said the mother with a smile.

"Why don't you go with the kids, mom?" the Appellate Study participants seemed curious.

"Gee.. I don't want to bother my son" replied the mother again.

"At the same time here, I can study religion and have many friends to share stories with" the mother replied.

The participants of the study could only remain silent. The opinion of this mother has a point as well he thought.

"If you miss sigh yes, but every Saturday and Sunday, my children are allowed to stay overnight, so it is enough to treat the longing" said the mother while waiting for her lunch to come.

At lunch, the participants of the comparative study participated in tasting the cuisine that is usually eaten by the santri. Of course the food prepared is softer and softer texture, because it is intended for elders aged 70 years and over.

Because it was Friday, the male santri performed Friday services at the mosque, while the female santri were allowed to return to their residence.

But there are some female students who also participate in the Friday prayer, they during the prayer service occupy the upper floor of the mosque.

The comparative study participants who were men joined the prayer service Friday, while the women's comparative study participants formed a kind of study and continued prayer dzuhur congregated in a multipurpose building.

After Friday prayers, the comparative study participants toured the pesantren while looking directly at the condition of the residence of these elderly santri.

They also visited the pesantren health clinic. At the clinic, it appears that some students are undergoing health care.

After performing the congregational Asar Prayer in the pesantren Mosque, the comparative study participants began to leave. They bring a variety of knowledge and experience, to be applied in the boarding school they foster.

While Nadia and Hafsah are quite tired of participating in this comparative study activity, but both are very satisfied, the comparative study participants can understand the program they have been running so far.

Friday Prayer for Women

In the story above, there are several female santri who participate in performing Friday prayers.

How is the proposition in performing Friday prayers for women?

In the time of the Prophet there were several women who had attended Friday prayers. One of them, Umm Hisham bint al-Harith.

In the account of the Muslim Imam, Umm Hisham said, "I do not memorize the Surah Qaaf but directly from the mouth of the Prophet whom he recites every Friday sermon."

Based on this, then for a Muslimah who does Friday prayers, the prayer is counted as valid. And with that he does not need to do Dzuhur prayer, because his obligation to pray dzuhur four rakaat has fallen.

In some Muslim countries such as the Middle East, some mosques provide special room facilities for women who want to perform Friday prayers.

Likewise, there are several regions in Indonesia that do the same thing, one of which places female worshipers on the top floor of the mosque.

Imam al-Nawasi in al-Majmu' Syahr al-Muhadzdzab called the Muslimah facilitated in performing Friday prayers and performing them, so the prayers are considered valid as the prayers of men. They do not need to repeat the Dzuhur prayer.

In carrying out Friday prayers, there are some sunahs that also need to be followed by Muslims. Some sunnah is the same as the male Friday prayer sunna, which is bathing before prayer.

Other sunahs are cleaning the mouth with a toothbrush or miwak, cutting nails and removing unpleasant odors or using fragrances.

It is also recommended to rush to the mosque. It is mentioned by Abu Hurairah radiallahu anhu, where the Prophet Muhammad once said,

"When Friday comes, there will be angels at every door of the mosque. They will take note of each person coming from the first, then the next and the next.

Until when the priest had ascended in his pulpit the angels closed the record, and they listened to the sermon."
