The House of Merchants

The role of both parents of Ustadz Hanafi for the development of Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur is very large.

Of the 5 Pondok Pesantren branch locations that have been established, 3 Cabangnya is a land waqf from Mr. Malik Abdullah, father of Ustadz Hanafi.

Not only that, 2,500 hectares of agricultural land managed by Pesantren Al Mansyur about 80% is a donation of Musi Corporation, the family-owned company of Ustadz Hanafi.

Historically, the extended family of Mr. Malik Abdullah was known as the merchant family. The grandfather of Mr. Malik Abdullah was a rice trader and owned hundreds of hectares of rice fields in the Ogan Ilir area.

The family business was then continued by Haji Abdullah, the father of Mr. Malik Abdullah. During Haji Abdullah's time, the rice he marketed used the label "Super Rice Pieces" and its marketing had spread throughout Indonesia.

Haji Abdullah also went into the property business, buying hundreds of hectares of land in Palembang. After careful planning, the land was built housing and shops.

But Haji Abdullah's property business has suffered a setback, especially since the covid-19 outbreak hit the world. Many of Haji Abdullah's housing projects stagnated in the middle of the road and were eventually abandoned.

Under these conditions, Haji Abdullah later returned to his initial business as a Rice and Sembako Trader. And to support this business, one of his sons named Malik Abdullah founded "Musi Shop Online".

Musi Shop Online was originally an online marketing application, but in the future continues to grow marketing various products such as clothing, electronics and so on.

In addition to spearheading Musi Shop Online, Mr. Malik Abdullah with the approval of his father founded the "Musi Corporation", which oversees all businesses belonging to the extended family of Haji Abdullah.

Haji Abdullah Wafat

About a week after the arrival of Mang Cik Rashid to Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur Surabaya, Ustadz Hanafi received news of grief, Grandpa Haji Abdullah died at the age of 93 years old.

Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur officially sent Ustadz Hanafi and his uncle Kiai Abdullah Ismail to attend the funeral in the city of Palembang.

Luckily Ustadz Hanafi arrived in Palembang about 1 hour before the body was bathed. As the eldest grandson, Ustadz Hanafi with his father and uncles carried out the procession of the corpse bath.

When bathed, Haji Abdullah's body was laid on the feet of his children and grandchildren who were sitting while stretching their legs. After being bathed, the corpse is then covered in a shroud.

A shroud is a white cloth used to wrap the body before it is buried. The number of shrouds for male bodies is distributed as much as three strands (layers), while for female bodies as much as five strands.

After being pardoned, the body was then brought to the mosque using a coffin. Ustadz Hanafi, who carried his grandfather's coffin, had to go to great lengths to break through the crowds present at the time.

Keranda corpse finally arrived at the mosque to coincide with kumandang adzan dzuhur prayer. The mourners who were present at that time then performed the dzuhur prayer before performing the funeral prayer.

At the time of the Janazah prayer, Mr. Malik Abdullah as the eldest son of the deceased became a prayer priest. It has become a custom of local residents, who act as priests to pray the corpse is a member of the family, especially his son.

After the execution of the Corpse Prayer, then the corpse is taken to the cemetery to be buried using a coffin. Usually the ones who go to the cemetery are the men, while the women after the mosque return to the home of the disaster expert.

After the body is buried, usually followed by a takziyah event at the home of the disaster expert for 3 consecutive days. The takziyah event is usually filled with the reading of surah yasin, but there is also by listening to tausiyah from the scholars.

Kiagus degree is a downhill degree that exists in Palembang society. In addition to Kiagus there are also other titles such as Kemas, Masagus and Raden.

After tausiyah, the audience is usually welcome to ask questions, whether it is related to worship, religious law or other issues.

In the midst of grief, Ustadz Hanafi had a conversation with his father, Mr. Malik Abdullah.

"Nafi.. I heard in Pesantren now, there is a program in the form of business capital assistance for newly graduated students" asked Mr. Malik Abdullah to his son.

"Not an official pesantren abah program, only a personal initiative to help talented alumni open a business" replied Ustadz Hanafi straighten out.

"Santri who has graduated, I ask to make some kind of business proposal. Later, which is considered to have prospects, will be given capital assistance and returns with a revenue sharing system" replied Ustadz Hanafi added.

"Have any alumni succeeded?" asked Mr. Malik Abdullah to know.

"If it works maybe not, but some have shown good results" replied Ustadz Hanafi straightforwardly.

"I also heard, you buy a lot of land in Surabaya?" ask his father again.

It seems like the Father heard a lot of information about Ustadz Hanafi's activities from Mang Cik Rasyid, who a few days ago visited Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur.

"Not too much abah, some land there are some built for residence, incidentally in Pesantren there is Nadia daughter Uncle Abdullah Ismail who is good at making home designs" replied Ustadz Hanafi told about his cousin.

"Oh. yeah... Nadia if it is not wrong again will complete her final task at UNAIR" said Mr. Malik Abdullah.

"Later try to talk to his father, if later Nadia graduated I want to ask to join the Musi Corporation property division" said Mr. Malik Abdullah excited.

"If you can, don't abah" Ustadz Hanafi said in a small protest.

"The project in Surabaya is still quite a lot, later if Nadia was invited to the Musi Corporation who helped me later who" said Ustadz Hanafi added.

"He doesn't have to move to Jakarta either" said Mr Malik Abdullah, who understands his son's objections.

"Nadia can remain in Surabaya, while communication with the company can be done online" said Mr. Malik Abdullah explained in more detail.

His father's explanation slightly lessened the concerns of Ustadz Hanafi. Indeed, it must be admitted, so far his property business has received the help of Nadia, his cousin who is studying Civil Engineering at Unair.

During the takziyah event, several times Ustadz Hanafi talked with his brother Abang Idris. His brother, on every occasion, always asked his willingness to be able to take care of his oil palm plantations in Malaysia.

But many times also Ustadz Hanafi refused with a variety of reasons. From the problems of his busy life teaching at Pondok Pesantren, then also took care of some of his business in Surabaya to the difficulty of getting permission from his grandfather Kiai Ismail.
