Ustadz Hanafi, CEO of the Company
What a Beautiful Difference

Kiai Ismail Mustafa's departure to Sulawesi in order to open a branch of Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur in Makassar City.

Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur in Makassar is the 5th branch, after Bandung, Jakarta, Medan and Palembang.

Ustadz Hanafi himself became an instructor at Pondok Pesantren only 2 years, after finishing his lecture at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

In addition to studying at UIN (State Islamic University), Ustadz Hanafi also took economics courses at the Open University.

Ustadz Hanafi's education at the Open University was only completed 1 year ago, and at the graduation ceremony Ustadz Hanafi was selected as one of the best graduates.

Once upon a time Abang Idris asked Ustadz Hanafi to take care of his family business.

"Nafi, we're a Bachelor of Economics, so I'm supposed to join my father in managing the company" said Abang Idris' eldest brother Ustadz Hanafi by phone.

"Yes bang.. later Nafi thought, but now Nafi is at home here" replied Ustadz Hanafi subtly refused the request of his brother.

"Nafi is also a graduate of UIN bang.so Nafi science is also used here" said Ustadz Hanafi added.

His brother's request is not new this time, even since Ustadz Hanafi was still in college his brother always asked him to take care of Musi Corporation.

While his father, Mr. Malik Abdullah, gave up completely the career choice of his youngest son. After all the place where Ustadz Hanafi taught was Pondok Pesantren owned by his own grandfather.

"Nafi, brother there is a plan to open oil palm plantations in Malaysia" said Abang Nafi again.

"Maybe you can be the main commissioner there, you can also part-time take a master's degree at a Malaysian university" said Abang Idris has not given up.

"yes bang. thank you, later let the same family talk here, about the request of this brother" replied Ustadz Hanafi with a little pleasantry.

Although Ustadz Hanafi counted how many years to teach, but the students were very reluctant to him, considering himself a grandson of Kiai Ismail the Owner of Pesantren.

Likewise, among the teaching staff, Ustadz Hanafi is highly respected because his parents and uncles are the biggest donors to pesantren financing.

The subjects taught by Ustadz Hanafi are the science of business management. There Ustadz Hanafi educated the Santri to become entrepreneurial candidates in order to be independent when they graduate.

To the talented students, do not hesitate to Ustadz Hanafi invest funds for the initial capital of his students with a profit sharing system.

As the son of the conglomerate, each month both parents of Ustadz Hanafi sent him considerable money, not to mention the funds sent by his two brothers who already had positions as CEO of the Company.

With this funding, Ustadz Hanafi can help some students to start their business capital, of course after they go through a strict selection.

Ustadz Hanafi also rented several shophouses used to market various products from Pondok Pesantren alumni. He even has some staff to manage the structure.

Ustadz Hanafi also used his funds to buy the land that is not managed in the city of Surabaya. Later the land is used as productive land or if the strategic location is built houses or shops.

The Pesantren Al Mansur

At first Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur only studied Islamic sciences sourced from the yellow book.

But since Kiai Ismail became the leader of Pondok Pesantren, the subjects have changed by including science and agriculture.

Scientifically, Kiai Mansyur and his son-in-law Kiai Ismail are somewhat different. Kiai Mansyur took a lot of knowledge from kiai-kiai sepuh in East Java, while Kiai Ismail learned a lot from ustadz who live in Jakarta and Bandung.

Likewise, organizationally, Kiai Mansyur was closer to Nahdatul Ulama (NU) while Kiai Ismail had been an activist in Muhammadiyah.

This organizational difference does not make the two denounce each other, instead the two fill each other for the progress of Pondok Pesantren which is based in Surabaya City.

In family life, between Kiai Ismail and his wife daughter Kiai Mansyur look harmonious. Sometimes the differences that occur related to the two organizations they address wisely.

Once upon a time, Muhammadiyah first 1 day when celebrating the Eid al-Fitr Day. In this condition, the wife of Kiai Iamail usually no longer fasts on 30 Ramadan and even participates in preparing for the feast in accordance with the Muhammadiyah Calendar.

But after a few days later, Kiai Ismail's wife carried out the Qadha Fasting, which was to pay for the Ramadan fast she had left behind.

Kiai Ismail's marriage to Kiai Mansyur's daughter was blessed with 4 children, consisting of 2 daughters and 2 sons. Their eldest son was Aisha Ismail, the mother of Ustadz Hanafi.

Then the second child and three boys named Kiai Rahmat Ismail and Kiai Abdullah Ismail, both of whom are caregivers of Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur.

The youngest is Aminah Ismail, who is completing his doctoral program at Al Azhar University in Egypt.

At this time Kiai Ismail still looks healthy at the age of 90 years. In everyday life Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur is more taken care of by his two sons.

The influence of Kiai Ismail at that time was very strong, ahead of the General Election many legislative candidates asked for support.

Kiai Ismail never refused the arrival of the candidates, all that came he prayed could achieve success if later elected.

Likewise, ahead of the Regional Head Election, many candidates for regent and gubernatorial candidates visited the Pesantren Al Mansyur. Not only come from East Java, there are even those who come from distant provinces such as Aceh and Papua.

Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur is a fairly modern educational institution at that time. They have their own wifi transmitter with amazing speed.

All payments directly related to pesantren such as paying tuition fees or lodging fees are made electronically. Even food stalls around the cottage have implemented digital technology.

Santri are allowed to hold an electronic wallet, but the amount of expenditure has been set to a certain extent.

In following the lesson, the students use electronic books so there is no need to bring thick-sized books like in the past.

In addition to being taught Islamic science, science and entrepreneurship, the students at Pondok Pesantren Al Mansyur also received plant cultivation training.

Pondok Pesantren itself has a waqf land of 2,500 hectares, which is managed by the students to practice the agricultural science they mastered.

When these students graduate, they are expected to be able to directly manage their family-owned rice fields in a more advanced way.

The results of waqf land management will be used pesantren huts to finance pesantren needs and some of the funds are used for "bea students" programs for underprivileged students.
