Three Character Girl

Three Character Girl
Inquiry in the apartment

"I mean," commissioner Saga said in an apologetic tone,

"certain objects are always located in the same place in one apartment block. The door, the window, the fireplace are located in the same place in the room that rests on each other."

"Why talk about such things?" ask Mildred. Saga's commissioner disagreed a little.

"People should speak carefully. That's a little - what do you think my fad is." There were footsteps on the stairs and three men entered. They are police inspectors, constables, and division surgeons. The police inspector recognized and greeted commissioner Saga respectfully. Then he looked at the others.

"I want a statement from everyone," he began to open his voice, "but, first of all - "commissioner Saga interrupted.

"Little suggestion. We went back to the apartment above first because Mademoiselle had prepared an omelet for us. I like omelettes. Then M. l'Inspecteur, after you've finished investigating here, you can catch up with us and ask questions as you please." The activities were carried out according to the advice of the Saga commissioner. The detective was riding with the four young men earlier.

"commissioner Saga," said Pat, "You're so kind. You will get a good egg. I'm an expert at making omelettes."

"Good, Mademoiselle. I used to love a pretty British girl, so much like you - but, damn it! - she couldn't cook. So, maybe, it's better this way."

There was faint sadness in his voice and Jimmy Faulkener looked at him curiously. After all, once in the apartment, Commissioner Saga tried her hardest to comfort and please them.

The tragedy in the apartment below was almost forgotten. The omelet has been dined deliciously when Inspector Rice's steps are heard. He entered accompanied by a surgeon, while the constable was left below.

"Well, Monsieur commissioner Saga," he said,

"it seems like the case is obvious - it doesn't have much to do with you, although it may be difficult to catch the culprit. I want to hear how the body was found."

Alternately Donovan and Jimmy recounted the incident. The inspector turned to Pat with a blaming attitude.

"Not should you leave your kitchen door unlocked."

"No more" said Pat trembling.

"It's possible that someone came in and killed me like a poor woman down there."

"Ah, but the killer came in another way," the inspector said.

"Are you going to tell us the results of your investigation?" ask commissioner Saga. "I don't know if it's necessary - but given you, M. Commissioner Saga - "

"Rubber," said commissioner Saga.

"And these young people - they'll shut up."

"At any rate, the newspapers will soon get news" the Inspector explained.

"There are no secrets in this case. The woman who died was Mrs Grant. I asked the porter to identify. About thirty-five years old. He was sitting at a table and was shot with a small-caliber automatic pistol, probably by someone sitting opposite him. The woman fell forward. This is why there's blood stains on the table."

"Don't anyone hear the gunshots?" ask Mildred.

"The gun used is equipped with a silencer. You won't hear anything. By the way, did you hear the maid's grin when she was told that her employer died" No. Well, this shows that people outside won't hear voices inside that apartment."

"Does that waitress have anything to tell you?"

"Tonight he's free to go out. He brought his own key. He entered the apartment at 22:00. Very calm. He thought, his master is asleep."

"Then, he didn't look into the sitting room?"

"Yes. There were letters in the room, which came in the evening post, but no strangeness was seen - as were Faulkener and Bailey. You know, the killer's been hiding the body neatly behind the curtain."

"Isn't this curiosity-inducing?" Commissioner Saga's voice was soft but there was something inside that made the Inspector quickly look up.

"The killer doesn't want his crimes known until he has enough time to escape."

"Maybe, may - go on with your story."

"The waiter came out at 17:00. Doctors determined the time of death - roughly four or five hours ago. Isn't that right, Doctor?"

The little-talking doctor simply nodded his head in agreement.

"Now at 23:45. I guess the actual time of death can be more certain." The inspector took out a crumpled piece of paper.

"We found this paper in the victim's pocket. You don't have to be afraid to hold it. There are no fingerprints here." commissioner Saga flattened the crumpled paper. On it were written a few words in small and neat block letters. I WILL VISIT YOU THIS EVENING AT 19:30 J. F.

"Suspicious documents are simply left behind" commissioner Saga commented as he returned the paper to the Inspector.

"Well, the killer didn't know the victim had it in his pocket" the inspector said. "Maybe he thought the woman had ripped off her letter. Nonetheless, we have evidence that the killer was a cautious man. The gun used for the shoot was found under the body - again without any fingerprints. Fingerprints were carefully removed with silk handkerchiefs."

"We found the handkerchief" replied the victorious Inspector.

"When pulling the curtain, maybe he accidentally dropped it." The inspector held out a large white silk handkerchief - a smooth handkerchief of quality. The Inspector's finger is not required to draw the attention of commissioner Saga at the initials in the middle of the handkerchief. Stamped neatly and clearly legible.commissioner Saga read the name out loud. "John Fraser."

"This is it" said the inspector. "John Fraser - JF in the mail. We know the name of the person we're looking for. And I'll bet that if we get information about the house and the relationships revealed, we'll get a trace of the killer."

"I hesitated," commissioner Saga responded.

"No, mon cher. However, I don't think the killer, John Fraser, would be easy to find. The guy is weird - very careful, because he marks his handkerchief and wipes the gun he uses to commit a crime - but Kok can be careless by dropping his handkerchief and not looking for a letter that might incriminate him."

"confused. That's how he is," the inspector said.

"Maybe," commissioner Saga said again.

"Yes, maybe. He's not seen entering this building?"

"A lot of people were in and out that day. This building is spacious. I don't think any of you - "The inspector greets the four young men together "looked at someone coming out of that apartment?" Pat shook his head.

"We came out a bit late in the afternoon - around 19:00."

"I understand," said the Inspector as he stood up. Commissioner Saga accompanied him to the door.

"One small request, may I check the apartment below?"

"Of course, commissioner Saga. I know what they think at headquarters about you. I'll leave a key for you. I got two earlier. The apartment was empty. The victim's servant fled to his brother's house. Too scared to live there alone."

"Thank you," said commissioner Saga and entered the apartment with a serious face.

"You're not satisfied, commissioner Saga?" Jimmy asked.

"I'm not satisfied" said the person asked. Donovan looked at him with curious eyes.

"That's - Well - what makes you feel anxious?" commissioner Saga did not answer. He remained silent for a minute or two, frowning as if he were thinking hard. Then, he suddenly moved his shoulders a sign of impatience.

"Good night, Mademoiselle. You must be tired. Lots of cooking work you have to do, eh?" Pat laughs.

"It's just an omelet. I don't cook for dinner. Donovan and Jimmy came to pick us up. We're out, somewhere in Soho."

"Then, you went to the theater?"

"Yes. The Brown Eyes of Caroline."

"Aah!" commissioner Saga.

"It should be a pair of blue eyes - Mademoiselle's blue eyes." commissioner Saga made a gesture feelingly. Then again say good night to Pat. Also to Mildred, who spent the night at Pat's request, as Pat frankly admitted, he was horrified to be left alone that night. The two young men accompanied commissioner Saga. When the apartment door closed and the two were getting ready to say goodbye to commissioner Saga on the stairs, commissioner Saga held them off.

"Young people, you heard me say I was still dissatisfied" Well, that's right - I'm not satisfied. Now I'll investigate myself. You guys want to accompany me - yeah?"

The eager approval welcomes the proposal of commissioner Saga. Commissioner Saga leads them towards the apartment below and inserts the key the Inspector gave him. Once inside the apartment, he did not head for the sitting room as these two youths had expected. Instead, commissioner Saga headed straight for the kitchen.

In a small niche that serves as an additional kitchen, there is a tool storage.commissioner Saga opens the lid. Huddling up he began to dig deep quickly and strongly. Both Jimmy and Donovan looked at him in amazement. Suddenly commissioner Saga shouted triumphantly. Holding it high up a corked bottle.

"Voils?!" yells.

"I found what I was looking for." Gently smelled the bottle.

"Damn it, I enrhum? - my head is dizzy." Donovan took the bottle from commissioner Saga's hand and kissed it, but he smelled nothing.

The bottle's stopper was picked up and the bottle was brought to the nose before the commissary Saga's screams stopped it. Soon Donovan's gonna collapse like a beam. By jumping forward commissioner Saga somewhat restrains the fall of Donovan's body.

"Bool!" shouted commissioner Saga.

"Open the plug blindly like that. Didn't he see how carefully I smelled this bottle" Monsieur Faulkener yeah, right" Will you get me a little brandy" I see there's a bottle in the sitting room."

Rushed Jimmy into the sitting room. But, when he returned Donovan was sitting upright and declared he was fine. Forced Donovan to listen to commissioner Sagaris Saga's short talk about the need to be careful about smelling something that might be toxic material.

"I guess I'll just go home" said Donovan, trembling at his feet.

"In the sense that I am no longer needed. I still feel a little weak."
