The Phoenix Reborn Book II

The Phoenix Reborn Book II
Chapter 74 The Conformable Heart

The red-yellow sky indicates that the sun has already begun to set. The road to the Liang family residence was so quiet without the slightest hitch, it was because everyone had started to return to their respective residences.

When she arrived in front of her husband's family home, Huang Miaoling stepped down from her carriage with Xiaoming's help. The woman's movement was so graceful, it didn't divulge a single bit about the terrible thing she had just done at the Minister of Justice's residence.

Seeing Xiaoming's face vaguely shrouded in worry, Huang Miaoling smiled. “Do not be afraid, A Feng will understand,” he said trying to calm the man.

Xiaoming could only faintly smile, not her young master whom she feared. ‘Let the Madam wander to another man's residence the day after her wedding, not the Chairman I feared! Big Mistress who will grind me into powder!’ the pekikin' in heart.

Just as he set foot in the main courtyard of the Liang residence, Huang Miaoling could see the servants starting to let go of the party trinkets. ‘A Feng must have returned,’ his inner self.

According to tradition, the wedding of a noble should last for three days and three nights. However, those happy days should be quickly cancelled due to the death of a member of the royal family. The legitimate news of Wang Wuyu's death has still not been spread by the court. Therefore, if the servants of the Liang residence had started to clean up the wedding trinkets, then that meant someone who knew about the news had lowered the order.

Huang Miaoling had just wanted to head to his new residence page, but a call stopped his steps, “Mrs!” Mingwei Junzhu's head turned and found Qiuyue's figure running towards her and Xiaoming.

“Qiuyue?” Huang Miaoling looked at his companion's servant in confusion. “What's up?”

“Master asked you to come to the living room, there is a man waiting for you with him.” Qiuyue did not forget to add, “Big Master and Big Lady are also there.”

Seeing the look on Qiuyue's face that was exuding tension, Huang Miaoling felt that something was wrong. He hurried away along with his companion's maid and Xiaoming towards the living room.

Arriving in the living room, Huang Miaoling saw Prime Minister Liang sitting in the chair of the family head, next to the Wife. Meanwhile, Liang Fenghong was sitting on the leading seat on the left. A man sitting opposite Huang Miaoling's husband was talking to Prime Minister Wu, leaving the woman unable to see his face clearly.

“Greetings to Father and Mother,” said Huang Miaoling who responded with a smile and nod of the heads of his two in-laws. Then, he turned to Liang Fenghong. “My husband,” call him with a vibrating tone at the end, still feeling a little awkward.

A wide smile was painted on Liang Fenghong's face, making the entire room that had felt so gripping a flash of light shine. The man stood up and directed his hand to a man sitting before him, introducing him, “Ling’er, introduce, this is a member of the justice department—”

“Rong Gui?” chirped Huang Miaoling with a wide smile, not at all surprised by the existence of a figure he had not met for a long time.

Rong Gui widened, not expecting Huang Miaoling to be willing to claim to have known him. As a noblewoman, getting to know a subordinate like her was quite embarrassing and inviting to questions. Wasn't Mingwei Junzhu afraid of the rumors that might spread and ruin her marriage?

If Rong Gui knew the marriage of Huang Miaoling and Liang Fenghong was not built on such a weak foundation.

“Greetings to Mingwei Junzhu,” reply Rong Gui while kneeling on one leg. “It is an honor to see you again.”

“Our meeting at the beginning was unexpected, so was our second meeting. However, it is clear that in this meeting, you came because you did recognize me,” the girl alluded to the fact that Rong Gui was able to recognize her outside of her disguise. It really isn't surprising, especially to someone from the investigation department. “I hope your mother's condition has improved,” Huang Miaoling said with a friendly smile.

Suddenly, the aura enveloping Rong Gui changed. The happiness that radiated from his eyes over his encounter with Huang Miaoling was instantly shrouded in voidness. This made Mingwei Junzhu's friendly expression turn dark.

“Yumu .. impossible ...” Huang Miaoling frowned. “Tabib Bai clearly said she could cure him!” The woman looks angry, “Did she lie to me?!” His enormous reaction made Prime Minister Liang slightly raise his eyebrows, feeling something was a little strange.

Panic emanated from Rong Gui's eyes. “J-Junzhu, relax. Don't blame Physician Bai, he's been trying.” Then, the man's gaze turned dark, so in contrast to the all-white clothes he was wearing. “What happened was destiny.”

Huang Miaoling simply fell silent, not asking further about the expression on Rong Gui's face. He invited the man to sit down and began to declare his purpose of visiting the Liang residence.

In front of the Liang Family, Rong Gui explained back his purpose of coming to visit. He recounts his brief cooperation with Wang Chengliu, how the prince promised to find the man who ruined his mother's life. However, his decision changes when he learns that Min An is the Mingwei Junzhu.

“If my mother's death is inevitable, but the fact that Junzhu was the one who saved her remains. Budi must be avenged, and that is the reason I decided to leave the Sixth Prince,” Rong Gui said at the end of his explanation, replying to the views given by everyone in the room.

A polite smile was attached on Huang Miaoling's face, slightly covering the look of the wawing and probing that was thrown by him to Rong Gui. “I'm curious, Investigator Rong. What did the Sixth Prince actually see from you?” asked the woman bluntly, making Rong Gui surprised. “I don't mean insulting, but with the Sixth Prince's nature, the fact that you're a resident of Qiongpo Di is no secret to him. Of all the people he could use, why would he choose you?” Huang Miaoling stared intently at the man opposite her, “What is so special about you?”

The atmosphere of the room in an instant turned tense, especially for Rong Gui who obviously did not have a single supporter in the room. The man took a deep breath, then replied, “I don't know.” He aligned his gaze with Huang Miaoling. “It was one of my questions that remains unanswered to date.”

“You lied,” Liang Fenghong decided to speak up, “You must have asked.” Then, a corner of the man's lips lifted, making him look defiant. “Only the answer of that man do not you believe, do not you?”

Constantly being startled by the two people before him made Rong Gui freeze on the spot. Then, the man smiled, ‘Excellent perception, no wonder the two became his inner,’ partner. “Advisor Liang wise, rightly so.” He looked at Huang Miaoling and Liang Fenghong intently before continuing, “Either you know it or not, but the Sixth Prince is someone who is difficult to understand. Therefore, not one bit I trust his words.”

“However, you cooperate with him,” Prime Minister Liang said. “Why?”

Rong Gui dropped his gaze onto the floor, trying to clear his mind. Finished composing the word, he stated, “Walau is not based on trust, but we have a heart that is in harmony.” The man looked towards Huang Miaoling, then continued, “We hate nobles.”
