The Phoenix Reborn Book II
Chapter 136 Repeating Life Doesn't Guarantee Anything

“Lan’er, you—” Wu Fenghong gazed towards Lan’er in surprise. So did Wang Junsi, Huang Yade, and everyone who was there.

Lan’er wiped the blood coming out from the side of her lips, trying to look firm. Then, he turned around and glanced at the so pale Huang Miaoling on the floor of the main hall. The brown-blossomed girl approached the woman and touched her hand on Huang Miaoling's face, she wore a bitter expression.

“However he did this to his own wife,” muttered Lan’er while staring at Huang Miaoling's preserved body and not being burned according to the tradition that it should be [1]. “This time, I really picked the wrong person,” he said with a frown.

Huang Yade did not understand Lan’er's intentions, but he knew one thing he wanted to say. “Lan’er, you can save him, right?” the man asked frantically, feeling that his heart was bleeding as he looked at the figure of his sister who was treated with such disrespect.

After all Huang Miaoling was a former empress!

Everyone stared towards Lan’er intensely. Even though the girl had stated herself that she was capable of doing so, everyone still had a hard time believing. Therefore, as Lan’er nodded his head, everyone in the venue was wide-eyed.

“Are you serious?” Wu Fenghong's voice sounded full of doubt, but there was a spirit and hope behind the vibration of his tone. “You can ... resurrect it?” ask the man again, trying to hold on to the words of a girl he has only known for some time.

“I'm not kidding, Your Majesty,” reply Lan’er while holding Huang Miaoling's hand. “I never joke about life,” the girl said softly. “Tak should you get this end, it .. is my belief.”

“You are a human being, not a god,” Wu Fenghong said in an accusatory tone, not wanting to drown in a false hope. Although he had witnessed Lan’er disappear from view, but he suspected that it was just one of the martial arts that the girl mastered. ‘Revoking someone from death and disappearing from clear sight are two much different things.’

Lan’er sounded a mocking snort, as if laughing at Wu Fenghong's statement. “The pay is big, are you sure you're willing?” He glanced at the emperor, questioning the man's willingness.

Silence enveloped the place. Huang Yade wanted to say that he was willing to replace Wu Fenghong if the man was not willing, but something from Lan’er's view made him feel that.

Wu Fenghong looked towards Huang Miaoling. He recalled how the woman's sharp brows furrowed and rose when responding to her every utterance. This made Wu Fenghong's chest ache.

He missed that woman.

“I have everything, but he is not by my side,” Wu Fenghong said with a bitter smile. He clenched his hand and continued, “My biggest regret back then ... is letting go.” The man seemed to gather courage before saying the next sentence, “Even if my life is paid, I am willing to give it to make amends to Huang Miaoling.”

Just as the last sentence was thrown from Wu Fenghong's mouth, the sound of a sharp object splitting the air was heard. Everyone was wide-eyed when they saw Lan’er unsheathing the sword in his hand towards Wu Fenghong.

Xiaoming who was in that place along with Mudan and Meihua shouted, “Emperor!” Similarly to the other soldiers who saw Lan’er's madness, even Huang Yade tried to extend her hand to stop the girl's actions.

Only, no one had the time to stop Lan’er. No one can stop him.

The sound of a sword piercing through the armor and tearing at the flesh sounded. It was followed by a low cry that made everyone's heart packed—shocked and scared.

Wu Fenghong glanced down, staring at the sword that pierced through his chest. With all his strength, the man raised his gaze to stare at Lan’er. “L-Lan ...” He was not strong enough to even finish his words.

“You have one chance,” said Lan’er with a face of pain, seen in the middle of his body, right between his two chests, another sword covered in blood sticking out. “We will ... meet again,” the girl coughed, made blood come out of her mouth, “to change the Feniks' destiny.”

***

Huang Miaoling widened, surprised by the way Lan’er returned Liang Fenghong to this time. Not only that, there is one other thing that makes him curious, “What is Wang Chengliu's relationship with Lan’er?”

Liang Fenghong shook his gaze. “He never said it,” replied the man honestly. “However, I know that one of Lan’er's goals is to stop Wang Chengliu's madness that intends to destroy Shi.”

‘Lan’er ... is still so mysterious, but it is very unlikely for the girl to be referred to as a human,’ thought Huang Miaoling. The woman suddenly recalled the punishment Lan’er received when the destiny of the sky was revealed, and she looked at Liang Fenghong as well. “You told me all this, won't anything happen to Lan’er?”

Huang Miaoling's question made Liang Fenghong's expression turn grim, as if he was arguing with his own inner self. “So far, it's appropriate that you know what's really going on.”

Liang Fenghong's head shook his head. “For the sake of making sure everything is under control, also for everything to go according to plan, Lan’er threw me long before you returned.”

“I don't understand,” said Huang Miaoling with squeaking eyes. “Away before I come back? You mean to say that ... Lan’er sent you into this world long before me?” His heart raced, feeling there was a dark secret that had just been revealed.

Liang Fenghong averted his gaze, finding it difficult to answer. The man knew that telling Huang Miaoling everything was capable of jeopardizing his relationship with his wife. However, he had sworn to never lie to Huang Miaoling.

“A Feng, answer me,” Huang Miaoling said, asking for honesty from the man before him.

Gritting his teeth, Liang Fenghong replied, “Ya.”

Liang Fenghong could hear his own heartbeat, so loud, showing fear of the hatred Huang Miaoling might have directed at him. He was convinced that knowing this could lead Huang Miaoling to assume that ...all the things that had happened between them all along.

“Since when?” huang Miaoling's voice sounded trembling as he spoke the question.

Liang Fenghong did not dare to raise his gaze, deeply afraid of the expression that was now painted on his wife's face. However, he still replied, “Since .. Father entrust me to Guru.”

Silent.

Liang Fenghong was still very young when he was entrusted by Liang Shupeng to Jiang Hu, only ten years old. Huang Miaoling said, “You're back ... that far?”

Nod the visible head of the figure of Mr. Liang, “Ya.”

Huang Miaoling tried to digest the information presented by him. Now, he knew why the name Physician Jianghu was much more famous in this life than in the past. Twice honing his medical skills certainly made Liang Fenghong different. Not only that.no wonder Liang Fenghong was always by his side whenever he needed help.

Turns ….

“Sorry.” Huang Miaoling looked forward, towards her husband who was grinning his face. “Even in this life, I cover so many things from you.”

Huang Miaoling was silent. Really, he didn't know what to say. He was angry, so angry when he realized that everything that happened in this life was part of someone else's grand plan. However, on the other hand ..he felt Liang Fenghong's sacrifice was so great, and it made him unworthy to be angry.

‘In addition, there are still other problems with Lan’er,’ thought Huang Miaoling while linking eyebrows. “What's the reason you were so angry when I left ... because of what happened in last life?” asked the woman, deciding to change course.

In a flash, Liang Fenghong's expression turned blank, as if he had just recalled something he was desperate to forget. The man covered half his face with his hands, his entire body shaking.

“Repeating life .. does not guarantee I can save everyone, I know that,” Liang Fenghong said. “Therefore, I fear the same will happen to you.”

In that instant, Huang Miaoling was enveloped by a bad premonition. “You are talking about .... Empress Tianzhen?” ask him carefully.

Liang Fenghong's hand gripped his head, as if he wanted to destroy himself. The man shook his head slowly, then said, “Emperor Huatai .. my brother .. I couldn't save him.”
