The sound of a carriage wheel that swiped with rocky ground was accompanied by the knock of a horse shoe. The wind blew against the window curtain of the carriage, making it slightly lifted. The refreshing fragrance of grass burst into the carriage, making the man sitting inside with a dark face open his eyes.
Wang Wuyu unfolded the window curtain, his eyes staring at the scene before him with a flat face. A green meadow lay before him. With a clear blue sky, the view looks so stunning. Although only a little, the man felt the gloom of his heart slightly lifted.
“Prince, is there a problem?” asked an equestrian soldier who immediately approached the side of the carriage, covering the scene from Wang Wuyu.
Wang Wuyu looked at the man with a calm face, but his gaze looked irritated. “No,” answered tightly while leaving the window curtain back closed.
The fifth prince tightened his back to the wooden wall of the carriage and sighed. He still could not believe that he had just been expelled from the kingdom by his own mother. Not only that, what was more annoying was ... it was all because of Huang Miaoling!
Wang Wuyu's eyes closed, re-imagining the seconds of his encounter with Huang Miaoling for the first time. The figure of Huang Miaoling who was so ordinary looked radiant when compared to the other girls. Not her charming beauty, but her attitude and self-care. She's a smart girl, but she's also sneaky when it comes to remembering how she hides her abilities from those closest to her. Even after having quite a high status, the girl was still able to shock her enemies.
“Wu Fenghong, yes?” Wang Wuyu opened his eyes, his eyes showing despair. ‘Brother of Emperor Wu Huatai ..’ The gentle man's forehead was wrinkled. ‘The only male descendant besides Emperor Wu himself.’ He closed his eyes again. ‘If the girl really knows about the identity of the man, then she is a terrible girl.’
After Yang Yuechan informed Wang Wuyu of Liang Fenghong's true identity, it didn't take long for the prince to make up his mind. As smart as he was, Wang Wuyu knew clearly that he was incapable of anything in the face of power. Wang Wuyu realized that he was currently still too weak to deal with the Wu royal family.
If all he faced was Huang Miaoling, Wang Wuyu was still capable. The girl was only the first daughter of the Great General, Junzhu's position she had was also only ‘gift’. After all, Huang Miaoling was still under Wang Wuyu in terms of position and power. However, everything was clearly different when Liang Fenghong— with his real identity— entered into the game board.
With Liang Fenghong's initial status as the only son of the Liang family alone Wang Wuyu was already quite a hassle, and therefore he intended to thwart his marriage to Huang Miaoling. Now, after failing to disrupt the marriage of the two and knowing that Liang Fenghong was a descendant of Emperor Wu Yifeng, Wang Wuyu increasingly dared not act.
“Wang Wuyu, what's your reason for being determined to gain power?” asked Yang Defei the previous day.
Wang Wuyu did not reply to the woman, he just passed away leaving his mother. The prince was worried that the woman would feel guilty if she told him the truth.
Wang Wuyu opened his eyes, his eyes directed at the scroll that was in his hands. He opened the scroll and stared at the painting on it wistfully.
A woman so beautiful in her fancy clothes was sitting playing the zither. Across from the woman, there was a little boy who was watching him closely. The boy's eyes sparkled, showing admiration for the woman before him.
Wang Wuyu smiled, his thin lips separated as he said, “Surely because of you, Mother.” Pain emanated from his face. “With your nobility, you deserve to be the most respected woman in the kingdom.” The man's hand squeezed the side of the scroll.
The defei? One of the four honorable concubines?
Fuck*n with all that!
In Wang Wuyu's eyes, her mother was the most honorable woman in the world. If Wang Wuyu was in power, then his mother would also be respected by everyone. There was no need for the woman to bow before the other woman in the back palace!
Brak!
The sound of the carriage stopping abruptly followed by the shrill hoop of the horse.
Wang Wuyu frowned when he found the carriage he was riding on suddenly stopped. He immediately opened the curtain. “What's up?” ask him to one of the closest soldiers. “Why do we stop?”
One of the soldiers approached him. “Jawab, Your Grace. General feels something is wrong.”
Hearing that, Wang Wuyu's eyes darkened. He glanced to the right and to the left. He is now in the open field, if something really goes wrong, then quitting is a wrong decision!
Suddenly, Wang Wuyu realized that his ears were buzzing a little. Just as the soldier wanted to continue his words, the Fifth Prince told him to be quiet.
Wang Wuyu sharpened his hearing and closed his eyes. He felt the hum getting louder and louder.
“Turnback!” shouted the General who was in the front row, shocking everyone. “We're under attack!”
Wang Wuyu did not have time to react because he suddenly slammed into the back wall, his horse carriage suddenly moved when he was not ready. Quickly, the carriage spun in a direction they had not been in for long.
Wang Wuyu's head immediately poked out of the window, he naturally had to see the circumstances he was facing. Wang Wuyu's eyes then widened when he found a thick puff of ash at the end of his gaze.
No, it's not just thick ash flying. It was a large army that was being directed at his entourage!
“That's Sihan's team!”
“There's Nanhan tribe too!”
“General, we will be overtaken!”
General Nan—one of the generals under the leadership of Huang Qinghao—soon shouted, “Don't stop!” He pointed in one direction. “Ke hill direction!”
Wang Wuyu's heart raced. ‘Suhan Tribe? Didn't Huang Qinghao have defeated them?!’ the pekikin' in heart. ‘What the hell is this?!’
Suddenly, the train stopped. The sound of the horse screeching as well as the cries of the soldiers could be heard. The whistling wind that gushed into Wang Wuyu's ears made the man shift slightly backwards, dodging an arrow that shot through the curtain.
Just with the encouragement of his instincts, Wang Wuyu got off the carriage. He was wide-eyed when he found so many of his soldiers who had fallen lifeless, dozens of arrows embedded in their bodies.
Wang Wuyu turned his gaze towards the hill. He was surprised to find dozens of archers from the Sihan tribe were pointing their bows at him.
“Prince!”
Another shout that Wang Wuyu believed to be from General Nan resuscitated him. Before any arrows landed on his body, Wang Wuyu moved to the back of the carriage, avoiding the rain of arrows presented to him.
Wang Wuyu's eyes moved to stare one by one the arrows plunged hard into the grassy ground. It made him gulp, his whole body trembling.
Wang Wuyu did know some things regarding martial arts. However, to participate in the war, he clearly did not have the slightest experience. The tension he felt now began to envelop his consciousness.
Amidst the chaos that ensued, Wang Wuyu could only fall silent as his soldiers were killed one by one. Even when General Nan shouted out a few times to resuscitate him, Wang Wuyu could no longer hear him. The prince only froze in place as he stared in horror at the one by one corpses that fell flat on their backs with arrows stuck in their bodies.
“Prince, beware!”
One other shout that Wang Wuyu could hear made him raise his head. His eyes stared at an arrow that shot from the sky towards him.
The sound of flesh being torn apart was not long heard, Wang Wuyu's eyes were blocked by a dark shadow that made his gaze widen. For some reason, it made Wang Wuyu's spirit slowly return into his body.
As Wang Wuyu's gaze began to focus, his gaze fell on the figure of General Nan standing looming before him. The man's eyes grew bigger and looked terrible. “P-Prince, run .. lah ..” After saying this, General Nan's body fell to the side.
Wang Wuyu stared blankly at General Nan's body lying sideways before him. His eyes glared at the arrow piercing through the chest of the knight. This made the prince stumble.
That arrow should have stuck in his chest.
When his consciousness had fully returned, Wang Wuyu realized the rumbling sounds were getting closer. He turned his gaze and found Sihan and Nanhan's horde approaching him.
With some energy left, Wang Wuyu stood up and turned his head to the right and to the left. ‘No horses, no warriors.’ His heart is racing. ‘They obviously want to kill me, why?!’
Wang Wuyu nimbly grabbed General Nan's sword, it was the last defense for him. The prince's eyes perched on one of the most striking figures on the vanguard of his enemy's army.
‘One terrible incision on the left eye, a necklace made from the teeth of his opponent's fangs.’ The longer, the expression that emanated on Wang Wuyu's face darkened even more. He recognized the man. ‘He is the younger brother of Chief Sihan, Sihan Nu!’
Wang Wuyu's hand trembled at the number of enemy troops slowly encircling him, his mind wondering whether he would die in that miserable place. Wang Wuyu's heart felt entangled, unwilling that he would just die without knowing the reason.
“Why did you attack my entourage? Don't you know that Chieftain Sihan has submitted to the Shi Kingdom?!” Wang Wuyu chose to bet with fate. “If anything happens to me, you obviously know that the Shi Kingdom will not let you go.”
Hearing Wang Wuyu's cry, everyone from the Sihan tribe laughed, starting from Sihan Nu. Then, the large-bodied man with a monstrous appearance looked at the Fifth Prince with a comforted face. “Fifth Prince, don't worry. I'm not going to torture you.”
Wang Wuyu's eyes emitted horror. ‘He knows my identity …. I-this is definitely not a mere coincidence!’ His hand gripped tightly at the base of the sword. “Who ordered you to do this?” He began to lose hope. “What do you guys want?” The question hinged the Fifth Prince's last hope.
Sihan Nu looked at the subordinate who was beside him, then he pointed his chin at Wang Wuyu. The man gestured to his subordinates to approach the prince.
One subordinate Sihan Nu got off his horse. Then, he walked over towards Wang Wuyu while saluting like a person of Shi Kingdom. “Fifth Prince, servant ordered to pick you up.”
For a moment, Wang Wuyu was slightly surprised. The hope that had originally dimmed back shone. ‘Daddy? No …. Grandpa?!’ screech with joy in the heart.
Suddenly, the sound of sharp objects tearing clothes and tearing flesh could be heard. The sudden attack on Wang Wuyu's body made the entirety of the man freeze on the spot.
Wang Wuyu's eyes that were still directed at Sihan Nu's subordinates were wide-eyed. “Just kidding,” said the man with a vile grin. Unmercifully, the man pulled his machete from Wang Wuyu's body, letting blood gush out and splash on the grass under their feet.
Wang Wuyu's legs felt limp, as if his strength had been absorbed completely. He fell to his knees on the ground while moaning. Blood started to come out from the corner of his lips.
“Sihan .. Nu, you ... will regret ....” Wang Wuyu was still reluctant to show his dispirited nature to the people before him. “Shi ... will not be silent ...”
Unable to hold his body firm, Wang Wuyu fell to the side. His eyes were still fixed on Sihan Nu, the person responsible for his current fate.
Upset that his victim was not looking at him at all, Sihan Nu's subordinate came over and kicked Wang Wuyu's body, making the prince groan loudly and his body face towards the sky. Successfully getting the attention of his victims, Sihan Nu's subordinates smiled widely.
“Take it easy, Fifth Prince. Your kingdom will soon follow. We won't let you go alone,” said the man.
“Yuyin Sa, don't talk much and finish. We still have to go back to Zhou,” exclaimed Sihan Nu in a lazy tone.
Hearing that, Wang Wuyu's eyes slightly enlarged, his heart racing. ‘Zh— Zhou ..?!’
The man named Yuyin Sa was humming in disappointment. Then, he turned his gaze back to Wang Wuyu and put on a gleeful face. He raised his machete high and said, “Goodbye, Your Highness the Fifth Prince.” He added, “Your sister sends greetings.”
