“We must get married!”
The deafening cry made Meilan, who was sitting relaxed on the porch when spring arrived, spit out the tea she had just been drinking.
His golden brown bead looked at Chengliu who was standing firmly in front of the eyes with two clenched hands. The man's face looked very serious, but the red hue on the earlobe leaked a feeling of shame that enveloped him.
“What almost died in winter makes you lose sanity?” meilan asked with one eyebrow raised high. “Wash your face and stop saying nonsense.”
Seeing Meilan walking away from the table under the apple tree whose leaves had grown back, Chengliu rushed to chase and confronted the girl.
“I'm serious!” Chengliu. She looked straight at Meilan as she explained, “I have sworn to marry you if I am still alive until spring comes.”
Meilan knitted her brows. “Why?”
There was no wind, no rain, but the man proposed. Chengliu had never even expressed love, but now she wanted to get married instead?!
‘I don't know people of old times so .. free?’ meilan in heart.
Chengliu lowered his face, and a red hue ran down both of his cheeks as he explained, “Your chastity ... I have snatched it away, so I must take responsibility ..”.
Meilan's eyes were wide. “S-suci—? D- snatched?” The girl stuttered and felt awkward. “Chengliu, what are you talking about, anyway!?” jolt Meilan with a burning shame. “When we even ever—”
Meilan stopped her speech. Then, he took a long breath. He only realized that Chengliu was talking about that one night. The night where they took off all their clothes and warmed their bodies through the storm.
“That's desperate, you don't have to think about it,” Meilan said as she continued walking past the man to clean the utensils.
However, Chengliu confronted him. The man's face looked serious.
“Come, married.”
This time, there was not the slightest bit of doubt or shame that was painted on the man's face. There is only determination.
“I will only marry the person I love and also the person who loves me,” Meilan replied briefly before passing Chengliu coldly.
“So, you don't love me?”
Suddenly, Meilan's body froze. He looked back, looking at Chengliu who was staring at him with a wounded face.
“If the person in that position was someone else, would you do the same? Take off your clothes and sleep with her?”
For a moment, silence enveloped the residence, making the atmosphere feel tense and stressful. The two people in the middle of the courtyard were just staring at each other without anyone talking.
Silence was the answer, that was what Chengliu believed.
As a result, the man clenched his hands and said, “It seems, I've been weighing for too long.” His heart was broken with the fact Meilan only saved him because of responsibility and pity. “I'll go morning es—”
“Am I that low in your eyes?”
Chengliu's speech was cut off. The man raised his gaze and looked at Meilan who was looking straight at him, the girl's two hands clenched.
Meilan insists, “I won't do that for just anyone.” He added, “I did it because it was you.”
Hearing this, Chengliu's eyes grew bigger. The light that had dimmed back smoldering with brighter.
“Jadi ... You accepted my application?”
The question made Meilan turn her body around, continuing on her way to clean her tableware. A red hue adorned his face.
“Serah.”
The next second, Chengliu ran over to Meilan and hugged her tightly. Happiness emanated clearly on his face as he imagined the future that had been waiting for him.
Life does not always go according to plan.
On the day of his second marriage which was held modestly in one of the village's famous taverns, Chengliu.
“Your Highness the Sixth Prince, it turns out that you are still alive!”
Standing at the door of his wedding room, Chengliu knitted his eyebrows while replying firmly, “I told you, you guys are wrong! I'm not your sixth prince! I'm just an ordinary person, my name is Lu Si!”
While kneeling with one foot on the ground, the figure of a lieutenant general pleaded with Chengliu, “Your Majesty, you have a birthmark on the lower right of your back. Check it out, and I'm sure you can only trust!”
Chengliu clenched his hands, feeling angry that this swarm of strangers was interfering with his wedding party. However, just now that he wanted to return to repel those royal soldiers, his hand was held back by Meilan.
Chengliu's gaze turned to look at Meilan who was standing next to him. The red veil that had been opened to start the first night showed off the girl's dazzling beauty, as well as her eyes that had turned extremely cold.
Never in his entire life did Chengliu think that the woman would end up being the one to completely derail their wedding day.
“Letnan General Chenxiao,” call Meilan, startling Chenxiao who was kneeling before Chengliu. The girl said, “Bring your prince back to the palace, and never show your face again in front of me.”
Hearing this, Chengliu was wide-eyed. “Lan’er!”
Meilan turned to look at Chengliu with a cold expression, but the radiance of her eyes showed deep sadness.
“Wang Chengliu, we live in a different world. I shouldn't love you, and you shouldn't love me.” Meilan's voice trembled, her two hands clutching her wedding skirt tightly. “Regarding the debt of life and responsibility, all you have paid off while living for four years in my residence.”
Wang Chengliu's pair of beads looked at Meilan straight. From the way the girl recognized the warrior leader, also knowing the clan that had never been heard before, Wang Chengliu could only draw one conclusion.
What .... From the beginning Meilan knew her background?!
As if she could read her mind, Meilan said, “Yes, I know about your background. That's why I saved you and took care of you all this time.” The girl did not stutter in the least while stating, “I intend to trick you into becoming part of a rich royal family!”
Meilan's explanation took everyone by surprise. No one thought that the talented healer in their village turned out to be such a cunning girl.
However, a snort of laughter confused everyone. They stared at Wang Chengliu's figure who looked bright with a bitter smile.
“Do you think I'm stupid?” w.a.n.g Chengliu asked Meilan in confusion. “Four years of living together, you don't think I can see that you're lying?”
One step back Meilan took to stay away from Wang Chengliu. To his surprise, the man had known him too far.
Seeing Meilan trying to get away from him, Chengliu grabbed the girl by the wrist. His face revealed a heart-wrenching expression.
“Meilan, you can't abandon me like this! I don't even know them!”
“You are a royal family! You will be well taken care of by them!” reply Meilan with an attempt to break away.
“Don't you yourself ever say that I was sent to the battlefield to die? Now, you want to send me back to the place that wants me dead!?”
Wang Chengliu's question made Meilan freeze. The girl was downcast, her mind processing the interlocutor's speech carefully.
Wang Chengliu was right, that was Meilan's sentence when the man had a chance to wonder about his background one week after waking up in the residence.
“Sending you to the battlefield at such a young age. If it wasn't because your family owed a great debt to the country, there would obviously be people who wanted you dead on the battlefield.”
The sentence was thrown from Meilan's lips .. because in fact he already knew the truth!
Seeing Meilan silenced, Chengliu also clasped his wife's hand tightly. He knelt down in front of the girl, making all the soldiers who saw could only kneel down as a form of honor towards the members of the royal family.
“The wedding wine has been drunk, the vows have been spoken.” Wang Chengliu looked at Meilan with a face that was clear. “Lan’er, you have legitimately become my wife.”
The man then buried his face in Meilan's palm. Slowly, tears began to trickle down and began to wet the girl's hand.
Wang Chengliu's voice trembled, unwilling to part with the girl who had been through life and death with him for four years.
“If you want me to come back with them, then please, come with me.”
