The Phoenix Reborn Book II

The Phoenix Reborn Book II
Chapter 142 Unexpected Visit

The instant when Huang Miaoling heard the name Hudie called, his eyes instantly sparkled. “You guys caught Hudie?” The next second, his gaze turned ash. ‘Wait, they just caught him? Didn't kill him?’

Huang Miaoling could surmise Li Changsheng's reason for not directly killing the woman-staring man. It was all clear due to Liang Fenghong's orders. Her husband must have felt that Hudie kept most of Wang Chengliu's secrets, so he intended to get as many answers out of the man.

‘However, worth?’ inner Huang Miaoling.

As if understanding the intent of Huang Miaoling's gaze, Liang Fenghong sighed. “Capturing the man was a bad decision.”

Huang Miaoling could see Liang Fenghong's face harden. ‘This is ... the beginning of the error?’

Liang Fenghong closed his eyes, recalling what happened after Li Changsheng had managed to catch Hudie.

“The enemy forces have been pushed out of the capital. On the other hand, the regional heads united to help Liang troops secure the kingdom,” was clearly a man who was none other than Li Changsheng.

Wu Huatai who was lying on the bed smiled. “You have struggled,” he said as he stared at Li Changsheng and Liang Fenghong in turn.

Liang Fenghong who had just finished examining Wu Huatai's state immediately said, “Your Majesty, take a rest. Don't think too much about government issues first. Leave everything to us.”

Seeing Liang Fenghong's expressionless face, Wu Huatai felt disbelief that a few days ago the man had cried for himself.

Wu Huatai nodded his head and said, “With Changsheng and also the Liang Family support, I believe everything will be fine.”

“Then, I resign,” said Liang Fenghong while saluting. Li Changsheng resigned with him.

After leaving Wu Huatai's room, Li Changsheng said to Liang Fenghong, “Advisor Liang, can I ask for your time for a moment?”

Liang Fenghong did not say much and simply nodded his head.

After they were quite far away from Wu Huatai's room, Li Changsheng instantly bluntly, “I guess ... would be better off killing Hudie now.” He added, “The enemy forces are already almost outside the walls, it means the Wu Kingdom has been safe. As the person responsible for taking control of Wu, the information that Hudie had was mostly definitely related to the Wu Kingdom, not anything else.”

Liang Fenghong knew that letting Hudie live made Li Changsheng feel tormented. The man could not feel relieved before he avenged Empress Tianzhen's death! But ....

“As long as the man is in the palace area, I feel unsettled,” said Li Changsheng honestly, turning his gaze to Liang Fenghong. “You defended Hudie against Wang Chengliu, that's not wrong. However, I hope you do not forget that your choice could bring danger to the Emperor,” the man said.

Liang Fenghong closed his eyes, trying to think calmly. Li Changsheng's words were indeed correct, if it could not get anything from Hudie, then killing her was a better choice.

Finally, Liang Fenghong nodded his head. “I will lower the command to execute tomorrow morning.”

Li Changsheng's expression instantly turned bright, feeling a little more relieved as the closest threat was about to disappear. “What's your step after this?” ask Li Changsheng. “Back to Shi?”

Liang Fenghong raised his gaze to the sky as he said, “Ya.” The man's black bead reflected the moonlight, looking so hypnotic.

Li Changsheng's gaze turned to the room where Wu Huatai was located. “Sister's condition is not good, and I'm sure you know it.” He looked back at Liang Fenghong's face. “You need to succeed the throne.”

Li Changsheng's words made Liang Fenghong turn his head quickly, his eyes widening in surprise. “King An, what are you talking about?!” He could not help but look around, making sure no one heard what his interlocutor had just said.

Liang Fenghong clenched his hands, as if preparing for something to attack him. However, after a long moment of silence and nothing happened, his forehead frowned.

Meanwhile, looking at the ridiculous behavior of his interlocutors, Li Changsheng snorted mockingly. He was sure this was the first time Liang Fenghong had behaved humanly before him.

“Do you think I don't know?” li Changsheng asked, looking at Adviser Liang with a faint smile. “Wu Fenghong, you underestimate me too much.”

Putting aside the question that had perched in his mind, Liang Fenghong's face hardened. “Since when?” Inwardly, he wondered how many people actually knew of this.

Li Changsheng's gaze turned the other way, avoiding Liang Fenghong's gaze as he replied, “When Mother is inside the prison.” She cleared her throat, “I accidentally heard her conversation with Miss Hua— Mingwei Junzhu.”

‘He Wudi ...,’ Inner Liang Fenghong in heart. Then, he said, “I will never succeed to the throne.”

This answer managed to make Li Changsheng's brows linked. “What? Why?”

A deep breath was taken by Liang Fenghong. He replied, “Because I—"

Before Liang Fenghong finished his remark, he heard a rowdy voice from inside Wu Huatai's room. This made her and Li Changsheng turn their heads quickly before finally running into the room.

“What happened?” li Changsheng asked Wu Huatai, who was sitting on the edge of his bed with a worried look, looking like he wanted to stand up even though he could not.

Wu Huatai raised his gaze, looking at his two brothers in a daze and in a slight panic. “Check them! They just suddenly fell and were unconscious.”

Liang Fenghong directly carried out his brother's orders. When examining one of the soldiers, he frowned. He moved to check the other soldier's pulse, and the frown on his forehead deepened.

“What's with them?” asked Li Changsheng who was next to Liang Fenghong.

“They ... fell asleep,” replied Liang Fenghong in a strange tone, feeling very confused. “How—”

“Hong’er! Behind you!”

Wu Huatai's shout made Liang Fenghong rush to his feet and turn around. This was followed by a loud whistle of sharp objects swinging through the air. The sound of cloth and skin sliced by the sword ringed in the ears of the Advisor Liang, as well as the cry of the brother who was so hysterical.

“Hong’er!”

As he slowly regained consciousness from the shock, Liang Fenghong found himself on the floor with a huge gaping wound on his body. Blood continued to flow out profusely, and the pain that enveloped him left the man with no power to move his body.

“Changsheng!”

The shout made Liang Fenghong avert his gaze, catching the figure of Li Changsheng hitting the wall with a sword stuck on his shoulder. It seemed, the man also could not avoid the sudden surprise attack.

While pulling the sword out of Li Changsheng's body, the intruder turned his gaze towards Wu Huatai, allowing Liang Fenghong to clearly stare at his face. “Your turn, Emperor Huatai,” said the man with a vile smile.

‘Hu ... die ...!?’ shouted Liang Fenghong inwardly, starting to feel panic with that unexpected presence.

How come?

Hudie should be in jail! Why is he here?

A wide variety of questions popped up in Liang Fenghong's mind, but no one could answer them.

Liang Fenghong attempted to grab the sword that was at his side. However, his arm could not be moved.

Without wasting any time, Hudie immediately shot towards Wu Huatai. He unsheathed his sword, preparing to plunge the weapon into the heart of his target.

Liang Fenghong gritted his teeth, trying his hardest to move. However, he was really unable to do anything!

With reddened eyes, Liang Fenghong shouted inwardly, ‘Sister!’
