THE OUT OF MY LEAGUE

THE OUT OF MY LEAGUE
02

All day Lily tries to shift Mary's grief by playing with her. After the incident this morning, Darren said he would return to the office and leave at 11 p.m.

After putting Mary to bed and heating the food for her employer, Lily accompanies Darren to a meal. The man was too unusual to have to eat alone. Anyway someone has to accompany her, if there is none, she better not just eat.

Nervously Darren took a sip of the warm milk he made. Usually she's not this tight, but because of the incident this morning that is still full of question marks, Lily assumes Darren still does not want to talk to her because she is disappointed.

However, when the man before her suddenly opened his voice, Lily was forced to raise her bowed head.

“Turned this morning ...”

“Ya?”

The look they meet.

“You must be wondering what happened earlier,” continued Darren.

Lily is in my heart.

“You must remember when I told you about Mary's birth mother, right?”

Lily nodded.

“Woman this morning .. she is Victoria, mother of Mary.”

Lily glared in silence. Bummer. It was as if he had seen that woman somewhere. In the past if not wrong, Darren said Victoria became a model after 2 years of her disappearance, so it's possible that Lily saw the woman's face in some beauty products.

But Lily doesn't understand one thing. “If she's her real mother, why take Mary like that? Even he didn't tell Mr.”

“You think why he did that?” Lily nodded so. “You think I'd easily agree that she met Mary? Of course he did it because he knew that I was going to turn him down raw,” he explained in a slightly ignited tone of emotion at the thought of Victoria's reckless actions.

Lily nodded in understanding. This morning after arriving home and asked, Mary said that the woman was just her father's business friend, so she wanted to be invited to the cafe. That woman is really reckless.

“But she's still Mary's mother, don't you think that maybe her mother missed Mary?”

Suddenly Darren's expression changed. The widower had a calm and authoritative disposition, so if there was a slight change from his usual expression, then Lily would feel it with a single look even though Darren did not show it clearly.

“If she misses him, does it take years to meet? Why just now? Why not from the past?”

“Lily ...”

Lily looked up. “Ya?”

“Can I ask you for help?”

“Whatever, as long as I can.”

“Please, if Victoria comes back again to do the same as today, can you claim to be Mary's mother? For just this once. I really don't feel good asking this from you, but maybe with this, he'll go away by himself. He probably won't bother us anymore if he finds out that you're part of this family.”

Lily gaping. Himself? Who's just this nanny? Being told to be the mother of her master's child? How dare!

“But Sir, where I dare.” Lily felt shriveled at the place where she was sitting.

“I know. That's why I'm asking you for help just for once. You'll also get an extra salary if you want. Do it for Mary.”

Lily stared at Darren's face. She's not that kind of woman, doing anything in exchange for money. Lily loved Mary Jane the way Mary loved Lily. So if Darren wants Lily to do this for Mary, he'll do it selflessly.

“No need to pay me, Sir. I'll do it for Mary.” Lily steadied her heart. “But I have a question.”

Darren nodded.

“Why do you hate Victoria so much?”

6 Years ago Lily was only told this; Victoria and Darren were dating, broke up for months and were not married, Mary was the result of a teenage mistake made by both of them. But Victoria instead makes Darren take care of their baby alone while the woman herself runs away from reality.

So Lily just wants to know the real reason of Darren so that Lily does not think in the future. Because for Lily, Darren has given up everything, left his past behind, so why should he hate Victoria? Or maybe Darren still loves Victoria?

Is it not the heart that hates because it has loved so much?

“It's not clear? He left us when we needed him the most.”

After that Darren drank the water with a cold expression and then moved from his chair because he had finished eating.

“Thank you for the food,” he said before leaving from there. Leaving Lily feeling guilty for opening up Darren's old memories 6 years ago she tried to keep to herself.
