42 Audit Finance Division (Part 1)

"Good morning everyone. Let me introduce you to Mr. Adam and Mr. Leon. They are the auditors on duty today to conduct audits in the finance division. I hope we are all ready to help the auditors, so that the audit process today runs smoothly," said Mr. Rizal introduced the two auditors to all finance staff.

"Good morning, I'm Adam. This is my colleague Leon. We hope we can work together to support the audit process to completion. Thank you" said Mr. Adam, greeting the introduction.

Mr. Rizal allowed the two auditors to begin their duties.

"Please, Sir. You'll start the audit from which part?"

"We'll start from the accounts receivable section then to the tax section, Mr. Rizal."

"Okay, please Sir. This is Miss Audrey, our supervisor who will help you."

Audrey went ahead and greeted the two auditors.

"Morning, Mr. Adam, Mr. Leon. I'm Audrey, let me get you to the accounts receivable."

Audrey steps quickly to Tristan's desk followed by the two auditors.

"Sir, this is Tristan, the staff who takes care of the receivables."

"Good morning, sir. Can I help you please?" ask Tristan politely.

"We will check the past three months' accounts receivable balance report and the current account balance per day. After that we will ask for some vouchers proof of repayment and proof of transfer from customers at random."

"Okay, sir, I'll be ready soon."

Tristan stepped past Audrey who was standing next to the auditors.

"Mother, I'll finish everything well. Mom can count on me" Tristan said in a soft voice.

Audrey just smiled at Tristan's words. For Audrey, this audit process is not the first time. But somehow this year's audit feels different for him. There was a kind of uneasy and uneasy feeling he felt. Or maybe he was just affected by the bad mood due to yesterday's events.

Audrey was relieved when she saw Tristan able to answer questions after questions asked by the auditors. They also looked satisfied, as Tristan provided the reports and supporting documents they had requested in full. After nearly two hours of auditing the accounts receivable, the auditors moved on to another section.

"Miss Audrey, we think it's enough for the receivables. Now we're going to do an audit in the tax department" Mr Leon said, leaving Tristan's desk.

"Okay, sir, let me take you to our tax staff. It's Susan and Renita in the input and output tax section" Audrey said, introducing her staff.

Susan and Renita stood up and greeted the two auditors kindly.

"Please, sir," Susan said, allowing the two auditors to begin their work.

Audrey cheered on Susan and Renita who looked nervous.

"Susan, Renita, take it easy. You guys must have made it."

"Thank you, Ma'am" Susan said with a smile.

Audrey went back to her desk to do some daily chores. He saw that Susan and Renita could handle questions from the auditor well.

Everything went well. Maybe I was over-thinking the audit today.

At lunch break, Audrey invites her men to lunch together.

"Tasya, Susan, Renita, Tristan, Aldo, Jessy, Karin, let's eat in the cafeteria. I'm the one who signed today" Audrey said, easing a tense atmosphere in the middle of the audit process.

"Ready, Ma'am. Come on, my friends are hungry already" Tasya replied excitedly.

"Mbak, sorry, Karin wants to finish the cash calculation from the customer first. Karin will be at the cafeteria."

"Sunday, you continue after lunch. After all you get the last turn for the audit," said Tasya astonished.

"Okay, Karin, you finish first. You can catch up with us in the cafeteria. Be careful with the money" Audrey said, worrying about Karin.

The finance staff joked with each other in the cafeteria to relieve their fatigue.

"Sir, Susan heard that in a few days our new CEO is coming. The gossip Susan heard was young, overseas, and handsome. Susan wondered what the man was like. Did Miss Audrey ever see her picture?"

"Yes, right, I'm curious too" Renita said.

Audrey tried to defuse the chatter of her staff that began to be uncertain of that direction.

"Have, don't gossip. Let's go eat. The audit is not done."

"Ready, Mother," replied Tristan finishing her meal.

After lunch, the auditors re-entered the finance room to conduct a follow-up audit. The next audit schedule is in the financial administration, debt, and general ledger. Audrey guides the auditors deftly to complete the task.

"Thank you Miss Audrey. Now our last audit is at the cashier's."

"Please, sir, let me take you to our cashier staff."

Audrey takes Mr. Adam and Mr. Leon to Karin's desk. The girl had prepared with the report and the money box before the auditors.

"Good afternoon, sir. Please, can I help you?" ask Karin politely.

"Evening, Miss. We will do a cash opname petty cash per day. After that we will do the cash account for the money collected."

"Okay, sir, here's the cash report for today. And this is the cash collection report I received from the collector."

"We'll check first, miss. Oh yeah, Miss Audrey are you the one who used to check the reports and the money at the cashier every day?" ask Mr. Adam.

"Yes, Sir. I'm also the one who keeps the money, the checks, and the checking account in the safe."

"good. Then you're watching the cash exchange we're doing."

Audrey observed the auditors who were counting money quickly. Audrey prayed in her heart that all the money in the cashier amount was in line with the one recorded on the report. Audrey is sure that no discrepancy has occurred, as Karin has always been meticulous in holding money.

"Miss, for the amount of petty cash fifteen million two hundred and fifty thousand rupiah. It's in accordance with the report. Please keep the money back" said Mr. Adam as he put his signature on his audit report.

"Now we will do a cash account for the money collected," continued Mr. Leon.

The auditors received a box of money from Karin and began counting sheet by sheet of money. But after a few minutes passed, they frowned. Audrey who saw the change in the facial expressions of the auditors, suddenly felt anxious.

"What's up, Mister?"

"Sorry, Miss. The amount of money in this box does not match the report. There's a difference of nine million between the billing report and the cash name."

"Is there a difference of nine million?" audrey was surprised.

"Rubber, Miss. There was also a difference of one check worth forty-five million. In this report there are six pieces of cheque repayment. But we only found five checks. Missing check number AJ3889 is forty-five million."

Karin's face seemed confused listening to the auditors' statements.

"I'm sorry, sir, but before lunch, I've saved it for the appropriate amount. There are also six checks. Why did one disappear?"

Karin turned to look at Audrey.

"Sir, I saw Karin recalculating her money before lunch."

"Yes, Karin, you calm down. Sir, then what should we do?" audrey is trying to find a solution.

Mr. Rizal who heard the commotion approached them.

"What's up, Audrey?"

"Sir, the billing money there is a difference of less than nine million. And there's also a check missing one sheet."

"What's? Why does something like this happen, Karin?" asked Mr. Rizal angry.

"I'm sorry, sir, I think someone stole it" Karin replied in fear.

"stealing? But all this time there has never been theft in the finance room especially during the day. All of our staff are honest and trustworthy people" Rizal said, not believing Karin's words.

"Sir, we better do a search at every staff desk. This is to avoid misunderstandings and look for accurate evidence" Mr Adam said.

"Okay, sir, let's do a search right away."

Both the auditor and Mr. Rizal hurried to begin their duties. The staff looked tense facing that unexpected situation on their respective tables. All of the staff's desks and bags were checked, but the auditors were unable to find any money or missing checks.

"Sorry, Miss Audrey, now we're going to check Miss's desk and bag" said Mr. Leon.

"Please, Sir. Here's my bag" Audrey handed me her bag.

The auditors received the bag and checked its contents, but found nothing. Then they turned to the desk drawer and cabinet containing Audrey's documents.

Mr. Adam scrunched his forehead while inspecting the contents of the cabinet. He found a thick brown envelope between the maps containing the files. Mr. Adam and Mr. Leon immediately opened and checked the contents of the envelope.

"Mr Rizal, here comes the nine million rupiah and the check of forty-five million missing. We found it in Miss Audrey's cabinet."

"A..what? It's impossible" Audrey replied in surprise.

"Sir, how is it possible that money and checks could be in Audrey's cabinet?" ask Mr. Rizal to be astonished.
