You Should Be a Beta

The werewolves had been training together in the training ground as usual. They did not waste their time while Roger's alpha terror was still happening.

Ryan sat in silence. He held onto the long branch of the tree he had picked up while walking towards the training ground. He watched everyone there.

"Ryan.." call Ian. Ian walked up to Ryan and sat down next to him. "Are you okay?"

"Sure, I'm good." replied Ryan.

"Then why don't you practice?" asked Ian who still saw Ryan wearing his shirt.

"Later. I'll practice later" Ryan said.

"Is there anything you're thinking?" ask Ian.

"No, it's just.... Ian, do you believe him?" ryan asked, pointing to Kei speaking to Alpha Sebastian and Alpha Dustin and Zach.

"You mean Kei?"

"Yes, do you believe him?"

"As alpha? I believe." replied Ian sure.

"Maybe it's because you've known him for a long time so of course you believe him." Ryan muttered and lowered his head.

"If I had just known her I would have believed her too Ryan. Kei may be young. She was only seventeen years old. But he's very good at leading and behaving if it's about his pack. Although about other things, well he was dubious but if about the pack, he was amazing." explained Ian as he looked at Kei. There was admiration in his eyes

"It looks like you admire her a lot." Ryan looked at her.

"Not only do I admire him, but I'm also very proud of him. With all that he had in his realm, he was still very strong and steadfast." Ian looked at Kei and smiled.

"So was I" said Aaron, who listened to their conversation. Aaron was also sitting next to Ryan. "I just knew him and I'm not even a girl. But I'm proud of him."

Ryan remained silent. He looked at both his feet.

"Are you sure you're okay? Looks like you have a problem." guess Ian.

"I'm good." replied Ryan. "Don't worry."

"Baahh!! Is this about your college? I heard you went to college out of town." guess Aaron was enthusiastic.

"Ahh if it's about that, after your self-control practice is over you can go back to college. I'm sure Kei told you."

"Does he have to decide? I mean that Kei?"

"Of course, he's our alpha and we're his pack member."

"What if I decide not to be a member of the pack?"

"Do you still not trust Ryan? Is it because he's a teenager?" ask Ian.

"Not that, I just... I don't know." said Ryan not sure.

"You're right, Ryan's right hand. Each beta will have a special bond to its alpha. If alpha is in a state of pain or danger, we can feel it. If we get hurt, the alpha can feel it. It's all because of the special bond between alpha and beta."

"Why am I beta? Why not gamma or omega even warriors? Why did you guys have to choose me to be beta?"

"It wasn't us who picked you Ryan, it was your human soul who chose you. Even if you become a gamma or omega, you will get an honorary title because alpha bites you. If it were another werewolf you would just be an ordinary werewolf." Ian explained.

"And the one who bit you was Kei, your alpha" Aaron added.

"What fight?"

"A battle between werewolves by risking their position. One werewolf would challenge another werewolf. For example, Aaron, I challenge you to fight me with my bet position as a bet. But the opponent we challenge is entitled to accept or reject and the loser or the winner will automatically change that."

"So if I challenge Jake to a fight, if I lose, Jake will be a beta?"

Suddenly Ryan stood up and walked a few steps forward. Ian and Aaron looked in wonder.

"Consideration!! I want to make an announcement" Ryan said. Everyone immediately stopped their activities and looked at Ryan. "I'm Ryan Reynolds challenging Jake whitefild to fight me and my bet position is at stake!!"

Everyone is surprised. Only Ian and Aaron were gawking in disbelief. They think Ryan will understand after they explain at length it turns out Ryan actually did something crazy.

"It looks like we're teaching Aaron the wrong thing" Ian said. Aaron just nodded his head.

"Ryan, what are you doing?" ask Kei.

"I challenged Jake to a fight with me." replied Ryan. Kei sighed.

"Are you sure about that?" ask Kei again.

"Related." replied Ryan steadily.

"What's wrong with her?" ask alpha Sebastian.

"I guess he just wasn't confident in his right position. He had just become a werewolf but he instantly became a beta. So I guess he just wasn't confident" said Zach's father.

"It seems so to Dustin. So how'd you decide Kei?"

Kei still stares at Ryan and turns to Jake. Jake also looks at Kei and turns to Ryan.

"I, Jake Whitefild, reject your challenge, beta. I'm sorry." said Jake. Jake doesn't want to fight Ryan. He doesn't care much about any position. He just doesn't want to fight Ryan.

Ryan nodded.

"Don't you want to be beta?" ask Ryan to Jake.

"No beta. I don't care what I am in this pack. As long as I've been with this pack, I've been happy." replied Jake.

"I'm not going anywhere with Jake until you accept my challenge" Ryan said.

"Beta-" Jake tries to persuade Ryan.

"Jake's." Kei's approaching Jake. "Thank you."

"But alpha.."

"But I don't care about all that alpha."

"I know Jake. But if you do win, you can be a beta, but if you lose, at least Ryan will understand that he does deserve to be a beta."

"Alpha intended.. I have to believe Ryan's beta that he deserves to be a beta?"

"No, I'm asking you not to hold back your power. Do your best."

Kei moves back to where he was, leaving Jake worried.

"How's Jake? Do you want to take Ryan's challenge?" ask Kei. Kei nodded slowly. Jake sighed and lowered his head. He's stabilizing his heart. Jake raised his head.

"I accept." said Jake.

"Whoa.... It'll be so exciting!" sahut Jason enthusiastic.

Jake goes to the middle. Kei sat on the big wood and looked at Ryan and Jake.

"Uhmm Kei, are they really going to fight?" ask Zach who is already sitting next to Kei.

"True Zach."

"Then... If Ryan loses, Jake's gonna be you?"

"True Zach, and Ryan will be the gamma."

"Waahh this is crazy, this is really crazy!! How could Ryan do that?!" squeak Zach. He couldn't believe Ryan was doing such a crazy thing.

"Because he thinks he's not good enough to be a beta and thinks Jake deserves it better than him."

"But it seems so." murmured Zach.

"We'll see that later Zach, after this fight is over. Who deserves to be beta" Kei said. "Are you ready?"

Ryan and Jake nodded. Everyone was staring at them.

"Then change." ordered Kei. Ryan soon turns into a wolf followed by Jake.

"He can already handle his changes" Zach said. Kei just nodded.

"start."

The wolves Jake and Ryan stared at each other and growled. Then the two of them lunged at each other, standing on both of their hind legs. Their front legs push each other and begin to bite each other. Jake releases his thrust and kicks with his hind legs. Ryan crashes and then immediately gets up and hits Jake again. They stood up and tried to bite each other. They then fell and rolled. Jake under Ryan hits Ryan with his front foot while Ryan hits Jake in the face with his head.

Ryan raised his claws but Jake was able to dodge. Ryan is back. The two wolves did not hold back their attacks. They attacked each other like they were fighting their enemies. Ryan slammed into a tree nearby with Jake's back kick. Ryan's wolf got up and shook his head, then immediately growled and ran towards Jake. Ryan jumped high but Jake was able to dodge with his agility.

"Whoa... That was really great. Jake is amazing." praise Zach.

Ryan lands with his back to Jake, opening up Jake's opportunity to attack. Jake immediately bit Ryan's back neck. Ryan groaned in pain. Then turn his head and shake his body rough so that Jake's bite is released. The effort worked. Ryan slipped from Jake's bite. Ryan hit Jake with his head. As Jake begins to get up, Ryan kicks Jake again with his back foot. Jake crashes hard on the ground and right in front of Kei. Kei smiled at Jake. Jake looked at Kei.

'Jake arrested Jake, give him your best attack.' Kei told Jake. Jake nodded and growled. Jake runs to Ryan. He hit Ryan. Biting, hitting and clawing even kicked Ryan hard. Ryan is starting to get overwhelmed. Not only was he exhausted but he was also severely injured.

'Ryan, I know you doubt yourself. Prove your doubts wrong. Prove that you are indeed a beta and deserve to be a beta.' Kei mindlink Ryan's.

"Who exactly are you supporting?" ask Zach.

"I support both Zach. It doesn't matter who is going to be my beta and gamma. I believe in both of them. They'll take care of me and help me well."

"It's so much confidence." murmured Zach. Kei laughing.

"It's not Zach's confidence, but I feel it. You're also alpha, you'll feel it later."

"Well, maybe, but at least I'm lucky to have only one beta."

"Maybe or may be the second beta has not yet appeared."

"I'm sure there's only one. Look at Sebastian's alpha, he only has one beta, George."

"As for you, Zach, I can't argue with you. I want to watch that fight" Kei said. Zach nodded. "Ahh but if you want to know... Alpha Sebastian actually has two betas. One of them is dead."

Zach stared in disbelief and shook his head.

Ryan was on the ground. Both Jake and Ryan were exhausted and injured but none of them admitted defeat. They were just as strong as even the other werewolves watching the fight were unsure who would win.

'Kei, are you sure this continues? They can kill each other!'

'Leave it alone for a while Ian, I still want to see how far they have survived.'

Ian sighed violently.

Ryan snarled rudely back. He was already furious and lunged at Jake with the rest of his strength. Ryan scratches and bites Jake. Jake groaned in pain and lay helpless. Ryan was still growling and wanted to attack Jake again.

"Enough!! stop Ryan!" said Kei. But Ryan didn't listen to himhe still hit Jake's body. Ryan comes to Jake who has trouble getting up. Kei gets angry and turns into a wolf and stands between Jake and Ryan.

'I said enough Ryan! Stop that!'

Ryan snarled loudly at Kei.

'I order you to stop!! I, Kei Lyroso Laros, as your alpha ordered you to stop beta!! Enough.'

Kei looked at Ryan with his alpha eyes, the red eyeballs.  Kei stared angrily and intimidated Ryan. The longer Ryan's body gets lower and more obedient. Ryan did not move anymore. Kei turned himself back into a human. Kei looks back and sees Jake has returned to being human.

"Follow him, bring him to treat." said Kei. Jason, Mike, Kian and Moles pick up Jake and leave.

"I'm sorry Jake, I didn't mean to." Ryan said regretfully. On lowering his head.

"Do you understand now?" said Kei who was already standing in front of Ryan who was sitting on the ground. Ryan raised his head to look at Kei. "I want you to obey me. Not because I want to rule you or enslave you or whatever you have in mind. But for this reason. When you lose control like this, something's gonna make you stop, me, alpha. If you obey, you will fear me when I am angry. You'll obey me when I'm mad at you."

"Pardon me." said Ryan. Kei crouched down in front of Ryan.

"Now do you believe that you deserve to be beta? Your inner soul didn't choose you wrong and made you beta. So stop doubting yourself and start getting used to it."

Ryan stared at Kei. Kei stands up and asks the gamma to take Ryan away so he can be treated.

"Dian!! Come here." call Kei. Ian immediately headed for Kei.

"What's Kei?" ask Ian.

'I have decided.' Kei uses a special beta-alpha mindlink.

'Decide what?'

'Will go see alpha Roger.'

"What?!" screeched Ian with his voice. Kei looked at Ian annoyed.

"Aahh sorry." whispered Ian. Kei shook his head.

'Are you crazy Kei? It would be very dangerous!'

'That's why I asked you to come with me.'

'But Kei, our time is not enough to go there either. The meeting was today, noon and now it's eleven o'clock and West Virginia is very far from here.'

'I know, but I have a way to get there. We meet at the edge of a ravine near a boulder in half an hour.'

'You sure you're gonna do it Kei?'

'I'm sure Ian, then... Are you coming?'

'Do I have any other choice? Of course I'm going with you. I won't leave you alone no matter what. I just hope this is the right move.'

'Yes, I hope so too.'
